G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-18-2014 11:41 PMFantastic interview with the director of half of the Millennium films. It gives you more of an appreciation for his work. It seems he was quite humble even before he got the job. It also sounds like Kawakita was hard to work with during the Heisei days. Some of the things he says seem to hint at the drinking problem-- Assuming it was as prominent as rumors say.
It seems Tezuka is one of the few Godzilla directors that knew how to better bridge the gap of communication between the live action and special effects work. It shows in the movies, considering the human-to-kaiju interaction is far superior to that in the Heisei series. (Examples: Climbing on Godzilla. Crawling inside Kiryu. Meganula attacks. People walking on top of Kamoebas, etc.)
Although I've never found him to be one of the more talented directors, his passion is undeniable. He loves Godzilla and he was 100% invested in making the best movies he could.
And I LOVE how he takes a jab at Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. I nearly threw my laptop over to stand and applaud.
