Godzilla 2014 Director Gareth Edwards Talks Creature Design and 'Destroy All Monsters' Godzilla Sequel Ideas!

Author: Chris Picard | Jul-26-2013 7:00 PM

Following the new Godzilla footage shown in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, press at the event had the opportunity to stay after general audiences left the Hall, to speak with director Gareth Edwards and a few of the cast; Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston.

During this time, the Director and Cast exchanged answers to press questions about Godzilla, and many of them revolved around Godzilla's creature design, how it honors the classic Toho films and... sequel ideas! That's right Godzilla fans, we may get a "Destroy All Monsters" style sequel to Godzilla (2014) if all goes well. Read on for excerpts, courtesy of the folks at ScreenRant.

When asked about the level CGI and special effects to be used in Godzilla, Gareth Edwards reassures audiences that the main focus of the film was not on the special effects, but more so the depth of the characters involved:

"I think the trick is not to think of the special effects or anything - and just think that this is really happening and there are giant monsters. Ask, 'What would be the best story to tell that always involves humans?' I don't separate the two in my mind. You just picture the movie. What was so refreshing was that we would shoot scenes that sometimes had the creature in it and sometimes didn't, but we would desperately try to make it work from an emotional point of view. Then, in the evenings, I would go to review things with the effects companies who are starting to put the visual effects in, and you're like, 'I completely forgot there's a whole other layer to this!' We have been painstakingly worrying about the characters and their journey and on top of that is this spectacle embedded in the whole film - and it makes you feel really good."

Even though Godzilla will focus on its three pivotal Human characters, portrayed by Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olson and Bryan Cranston, the other main star on everyone's mind - Godzilla! Any classic franchise being rebooted by Hollywood these days comes with a massive following of extremely devoted fans with abnormally high expectations. Not that this is a bad thing, but following the last Americanized 1998 Godzilla movie, fans have had a fairly sour taste in their mouth. Not that the film was a bad movie, but that it did not honor the primary foundations which made Godzilla and international icon. So how will Edwards do Godzilla justice? When asked about this, Gareth replied by saying:

"In a way we approached it was, imagine in 1954 (when the first Godzilla movie was made), that this creature really existed and someone saw him from Toho, the Japanese studio, and went running back to the studio and said, 'I've seen this creature and it kind of looked like this.' And they tried to draw it and they tried to make a suit and they did a very good job of it but then, when you saw the real creature, you go 'Okay, I totally understand how you got that suit from that creature but now I see the real thing. Oh my God, I totally believe that it's completely real.' And that's how we approached it. We went through hundreds of designs, and never stopped playing really until the last minute and got to the point where it was like, 'Is there anything else that we want to change about this design'? And I was like, personally no, I'm very happy with it. And Toho was very much a part of the approval process. So it's a Toho approved design as well."

Nicely put Edwards, nicely put. From a hard core Godzilla fan myself, one who grew up with the iconic, radioactive Dinosaur, I am quite impressed with how Gareth Edwards has taken on the project. I'm so relieved that he's a fan at heart and that Toho was a part of the design process - this gives the film a lot of promise.

Now, the leaked footage from Legendary's Godzilla Encounter which went viral earlier this week, the Godzilla seen in this footage was not the final design - as we've stated before. Along with the models on display at the Encounter, the official, polished design for Godzilla is currently remaining a secret. But I think from what we've seen, it's on the right track.

So with this interview coming to its boiling point, the topic of a Godzilla sequel did arise. As opposed to Emmerich's Godzilla, Gareth is working hard to create believable, emotionally attached characters and a "real-life" scenario, where giant Kaiju Monsters live on Earth. When asked about Godzilla 2014 sequel plans, Gareth mentioned the idea of doing a Destroy All Monsters style film, with multiple Monsters brawling it out - very similar to Toho's original direction with the franchise. Here's what Gareth had to say:

"With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters. I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn't want to limit it to one other foe, I think it's more fun to - this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel - but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira."

Ah.. another sigh of relief and reassurance that we have the right director involved with this American Godzilla remake. A Destroy All Monsters type sequel, with a mega budget, backed by Hollywood's finest - you've got the making of a truly monumental film, one that would drive the fan-base threw the roof with excitement. Can you imagine a re-imagined King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Mothra, Destroyah or Space Godzilla? Oh hell yeah - sign me up!

gigan_final_organic_form_by_nobackstreetboys-d6dega5.jpg

From the looks of it, Godzilla is going to rock the box office and win the hearts of both hard-core Godzilla fanatics and general movie audiences alike. I seriously hope it does extremely well, because a Destroy All Monsters sequel, would be phenomenal!

But what do you think? Do you have faith in Gareth Edwards? What do you think of a Destroy All Monsters sequel idea? Leave your creative responses in the comments section below, or by posting in the Godzilla Movies Forum!

They should definitely make a sequel to this movie. As one Godzilla fan to another, this movie is rolling on the right track.

ShazoTheHedgehog ›

I am also glad this movie is going to be better than the '98 film.

ShazoTheHedgehog ›

The King is back!

Zillaboy17 ›

They just need to reveal him soon. It's getting on everybody's nerves and mine also. If he keeps the design hidden for too long it'll disappoint alot of Godzilla fans because we'll walk out of the theatre thinking: "Why the fuck didn't they reveal him earlier?" Not being negative just realistic. Even though this Godzilla is actually Godzilla we'll just be wondering why it had to be kept such a big secret. It happened with Cloverfield and I don't want that to happen with this movie. The same with the 2 new monsters. If they can't reveal Godzilla they can AT LEAST reveal the 2 new monsters! Or else there will be disappointment in them too. I have faith in this movie it's just that when they keep his design a secret for so long hype turns into frustration.

omar ›

i dont want a fat godzilla like the one on top

Scarfo ›

The King of The North! (sorry, couldn't help myself) I can't wait to see the final design, even though I still feel it won't stray too far from the Godzilla Encounter model, but we'll see. Anyway, that final creature (drawing) looks like if Destroyah and Gigan had unprotected sex, and produced a...thing. lol

MrRadiation ›

Some of this scares me....
I mean, I know what Gareth is going for, but not making your title character the center of attention in this film....feels off.

I mean I saw "Monsters", and for an Indie film, well it was a nice indie film. Just, not what a film like Godzilla should be. Even in Monsters, for me the design of the "Monster" was kind of a hotmess, like someone just made tendrils with feet in a computer and had them running amok. I forgave it though, cause it was an indie film. There was a HUGE human element though, so much that you kind of forgot about the monsters. and that's what I kind of didn't like about it.

Now, hearing his rant about this super emotional character driven film and then he goes into the editing room and says, "Oh yeah, there's a monster in this movie too huh?" Yeah, that scares me. Godzilla shouldn't be playing second fiddle to Walter from Breaking bad, Kick A$$, and the Olsen twins other sister.

It's almost what they didi with 98, Emmerich was trying to recapture the magic of Smith and Goldblum from ID4 and Russel and Spader from Stargate, that they just had too many characters between Broadbeck, Azaria, Reno, the love interest, the supporting characters love interest....that one random military guy.

To get an indie version of that, and having that as the main focus of Godzilla and not Godzilla.....leaves me worried.

Worm_of_Pittersplatter ›

@OMAR Godzilla has always been fat, even his slimest designs are chunky and he always has had the thunder thighs going on. The only slim Godzilla was the bullshit 1998 Godzilla design, which is not at all Godzilla. Legendary is trying to stay true to Godzilla's roots, and his roots are overweight.

Worm_of_Pittersplatter ›

@MRRADIATION I totally understand your concerns. I have had the same thoughts on this as well (I saw Monsters). The studio is poising this as a summer block buster so believe me it is going to be filled with Godzilla destruction. I think what Gareth means here is this movie is focusing more on the character's reaction to their world being destroyed by kaiju. All Godzilla movies do this really but I think Gareth is going to make us actually give a crap about these people. I know that Cloverfield is really trashed by a lot of folks, but the characters in that film I grew to know and give a damn about. When the camera man got eaten, I had actually had a reaction because I had spent so much time with this guy. Gareth already confirmed that there will in fact be handheld sequences in this film along with the regular movie shooting. I think we are going to spend a lot of time with these characters for sure as they run around trying to survive while their world burns to the ground, but I also know we are going to spend a lot of time watching their world be destroyed. When I saw Cloverfield the first thing I thought was, give me a Godzilla movie like this, but not entirely shot hand held. I want to see the destruction from eyes on the ground as well as see the monster fights from eyes in the skies and so on and so forth. I think that is exactly what we will get.

MrRadiation ›

@Worms of Pittersplatter:
I actually also liked that element of Cloverfield. I agree, I liked the characters, the majority of them had real chemistry, these are people I can hang out with for an hour and a half of movie so when they either died or got in a jam, you were mourning or rooting for them.

I didn't do that with Monsters, not even a little. So, for Gareths sake, I hope he doesn't try to do a big budget version of Monsters. If there is an indie Monster film I hope rubs off on Godzilla, it's Troll Hunter, THAT is a great giant monster indie film.

As far as sequel news, well Cloverfield and Godzilla 98 had planned sequels.....

TheOxygenDestroyer54 ›

I would love to see a Destroy All Monsters remake/update as the sequel. All the more I want this film to be a success!

KoldWarKid62 ›

Just so long as Edwards stays TRUE to those things that make the character as cool as it is. This is what the '98 version did not do. They tossed out everything that was unique and cool about Godzilla and came up with their own version (which they mistakenly thought would be the version for the 21st century).

I don't care how "realistic" Edwards wants to make his movie; at the end of the day, it is a f@#*ing fantasy character! You have to honor the history. You don't make Superman and not have him fly, or have Batman and not have him be immediately recognizable as Batman. Godzilla should look like Godzilla, should breathe radioactive fire (beam, ray, what have you), and be fairly impervious to weapons. He kicks ass. That's it.

Beyond that, make it as realistic as you want!

TheOxygenDestroyer54 ›

And from seeing the footage at Comic-Con and seeing Godzilla during the simulation at the Encounter, I think they have accomplished. The skin seems to have the traditional tree park look to it, he has atomic breath, is massive and extremely imposing. It's enough to stand out on its own, but still recognizable and is respectful to the Toho original.

Gojiraterror ›

So uh, did anyone catch that part when he explained the realism he was trying to instill? Anyone at all? (Bananasugarload).

Because thats the realism that he meant in the first place, yet SOME people (bananasugarload) didnt understand and instead took offence and gave up on the movie instantly.

TheOxygenDestroyer54 ›

Retired from the fandom, eh? :P

MRImage69 ›

Destroy All Monsters was my favorite as a kid as well. My uncle took me and my cousin to see that in the movies when we were kids. So, I am stoked about the whole thing as well. Can't wait until next May.

Goji1701 ›

A Destroy All Monsters redo would be outstanding...but not as the sequel. I honestly love that movie, but I fear it would suffer from 'Spiderman 3 Syndrome', packing in way too many Toho monsters in way too fast. We as fans would love it, but for those who are coming into the fandom, and don't know much about the history of the Toho Kaiju-Eiga, it would feel crowded and confusing. IMO, I think that the success of the first movie should show Toho that Edwards is capable of handling their monster roster, thus giving him the right to use more fan favorites. But instead of cramming them all in at once, they should introduce them slowly in succession of each other, leading up to an Avengers style jam-packed blockbuster. That would give the new generation of fans time to accustom themselves with all, or at least, most of the Toho kaiju that would be involved with a Destroy All Monsters film.

Now I know most of you will say, "screw the masses, make a film for just the fans", I totally get why one would say that. Unfortunately for that view, that's not the way movies are made nowadays, especially reboots of big franchises. Take Star Trek for example. JJ Abrams new take on the classic TOS series has been a resounding success, with fans and new viewers alike, (and when I say fans, I mean the people who don't gripe and complain about every little nit picky thing they can), and has resulted in bringing a lot of publicity back to the franchise in a good way, something us core fans have been wanting since Nemesis came out on DVD. He did this by not only throwing plenty of fan-porn in there for us, but also making a movie that could appeal to the general audience too. And that's perfectly ok, no harm was done to the franchise and it gained a new generation of fans as well.

Same with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios, (Now under Disney) did follow source material from the comics, they still added in their own twist on the famous characters. While some nit-pickers complained, numbers don't lie. The Avengers was one of the biggest movies of all time, all because of a precise plan followed by Marvel. Instead of throwing them in there all at once and not really giving any back-story to each character, they expanded the universe, gave them all a shot at the limelight, and then had em join up for an epic feature.

Not saying Edwards has to do exactly that, but Itd be nice for the kaiju to get some good back-story with modern twists. It'd be nice to have some refreshing takes on our favorite monsters. I for one would love to have an awesome story retelling of Godzilla vs GIgan. If one were to follow the modern day way of making movies, that'd be the way it should go logically. In turn that would make a big budget monster jam more enjoyable for the whole crowd, not just us. Then we can share our love of something with plenty of new people.

TheOxygenDestroyer54 ›

The only 3 monsters I'm dying to see in this new franchise is Destroyah, King Ghidorah, and Rodan. Those three are who I really want to see.

Ananasatom ›

Don't fuck it up man! ;)

So I want to see Destroyah and Mechagodzilla ^^

G fan 84 ›

Ya'll do relize we live in america RIGHT??? aside from us the rest of the population dont GIVE A F*** about dai-kaiju;and as mutch as a GODZILLA 2 would be nice a DISTROY ALL MONSTERS would be a box office disaster, lets just keep our fingers crossed the the bigG blows the roof off of theaters come may14th so TOHO can start makeing GODZILLA movies again. :) As far as existing monsters go they should NEVER do that in any "future" american godzilla films though IDW's godzilla comics are great and some existing monsters are good, just tossen monsters in to the story all willy nilly like SPACE GODZILLA here DISTROYAH there TITANASAURUS over there screws some of the comics up;they should have ben more like the DARK HORSE GODZILLA comics any monsters they intreduced were new and original.NEW GODZILLA+NEW MONSTERS=AWSOME!!!;besides ZILL98 the series already did the distroy all monsters thing it was called MONSTER WARS.

G fan 84 ›

And yeah i hope this doesnt turn into a big budget version of MONSTERS to.

RR44 ›

I don't like the one godzilla pic that kinda reminds me of neo - genesis . the Matt Frank art looks cool. Gigan looks cool... but it would not fit in Gareth's godzilla universe of realitic.

The-True-Batman ›

@G FAN 84 Not everyone on this site lives in NORTH America. By the way, you live in the United States of America, not America itself. North America and South America exist, but there is no country or continent called America.

Ananasatom ›

@THE-TRUE-BATMAN I live in germany :D

Scarfo ›

The two monsters I want to see redone with realism (like the new Godzilla) is King Ghidorah, and Gigan!

also, I did the happy dance when this arrived in the mail :

axnuh3.jpg

G fan 84 ›

What eve's, "NORTH AMERICANS" are ignorant of the DAI-KAIJU/TOKUSATSU genre; fans of the genre aside.

TheDude ›

Blame the retarded main stream for not getting it.

IMO for a sequel, DAM would work, but maybe we should try it with new monsters. Yeah, PR has original monsters. Dark Horse's G comics and the 98 Zilla cartoon. It would make for something interesting to try out and see what happens.

MRImage69 ›

Anguirus, Rodan, Ghidorah, King Caesar, Baragon and Megalon, I would like to see those monsters again.....But I do see the benefits of having new monsters introduced into the mix. The possibilities are endless as long as they do a great job with this one.

kaijudinosaurfan12345 ›

wow, imagine it the most epic cgi brawl in history and imagine if they had every monster

SPAZTOID ›

you know what would be cool if they made a crossover with pacific rim and to fight godzilla .they make a new jaegur that could handle him called MECHAGODZILLA. Great way to reinvent mechaG. sadly it will never happend :(

G fan 84 ›

Yeah doing MECHAGODZILLA in any possible future north american GODZILLA sequels would definately garner some "PACIFIC RIM RIPOFF" responsis from the non Gfan viewing public.

G fan 84 ›

I would REALY like to see some more realistic concept pics of the other TOHO kaiju like they did with GIGAN and MEGALON though. :)

MrRadiation ›

@G Fan 84: Those concepts of Megalon and Gigan are fan made. In which case, you could probably find many more of them with a google search or even on Deviant Art.

As for me, not really digging the Gigan fan art, like the Final Wars "Giger" Gigan better. I mean, it takes talent to make a monster like that look that awesome. He had flippin CHAINSAW ARMS!

Id honestly like to see Anguirus, as he's the first Monster Godzilla ever fought against. Monsters like Rodan and Mothra prob wouldn't make it though, as they had their own title films before they crossed over into Godzilla fandom. I believe this was only after the success of Godzilla vs King Kong. I need to check the filmography. But being Gareth wants more realism, which in his minds looks to be more pollution based monsters, any space monsters look to be out of the running. Which includes the original Mechagodzilla, as he came from space.

G fan 84 ›

GODZILLA vs CLOVERFIELD that would be awsome.

S8n9 ›

it willl be great keep same godzilla was on final wars chracter & make son of godzilla has grow up & strong as his father then fight together against the monsters , save world again . i want see son of godzilla has grow up on this movie.

S.I. ›

As a loyal Godzilla fan I thought the 1998 American version of Godzilla was ok but not nearly as good as the Japanese Godzilla in fact I consider the 1998 version the Godzilla equivalent of Dino De Laurentiis 1976 version of King Kong but this new version of Godzilla sounds promising.

G fan 84 ›

ZILLA98 WAS NOT A GODZILLA MOVIE yes it was a great dai-kaiju movie but in no way was GODZILLA;though ZILLA did earn an interesting place in GODZILLA contenuity as "one of the GODZILLAs" and one of the monsters GODZILLA put a hurtin on. :D

S.I. ›

Well yes in every sense you are absolutely right but I only consider it a Godzilla film because of the film title but that's just my personal opinion but anyway I don't think it really matters when this new film comes out people probably wont think to much about the 1998 film.

esnkd ›

well the thought of a destroy all monsters movie gives away that he didn't kill the BIG G in the first movie, and even if it goes to the third or fourth movie hopefully they never fuck up and kill the big G. Monster island sound freakin awesome, I would like to see a world destroyed and godzillas all over the world, and apocalypse movie explaining how man destroyed himself with his misuse of nuclear energy and other energy sources. with the godzilla cell whose to say that this creatures off spring when nuclear energy becomes sparse couldn't mutant to other pollution types...

bigbadben ›

ok with new monsters in this movie one we know of being a giant centipede of course and a new pollution type monster called DEATHLA and i dont know how anyone else feels about it i would love to hear the BLUE OYSTER CULT SONG GODZILLA at the end of this movie i think that would be awesome

G fan 84 ›

They'll probably do like they did in RETURN OF GODZILLA/GODZILLA1984 godzilla will seemingly die but if the movie does as well as we're all hopeing it will he'll be back for a sequel;but if WARNER BROTHERS doesnt start getting the word out now about the movie we mine as well forget it;if it goes like im predicting and they wait till febuary and start an all out hyping blitz it'll be to late and the movie will end up going the way of PACIFIC RIM being a sleeper hit.

Samzilla 14 ›

Good day fellow G fans, the names Sam. Just recently joined your humble little site dedicated to the new Godzilla film and needless to say I am as excited as the rest of you.

Which brings me to this next question: why are you fans so up and anxiouse for a trailer? Isn't it enough that we got some info from the comic con? I mean, shouldn't Legendary focus on making the new Godzilla film as good as possible instead of pandering to the demands of impatient fans? I understand this desire for an official trailer, but I don't recall Legendary making any public prommises other then to the attendees at the comic con.

And what is all this I hear about Pacific Rim not doing very well? Opening weekend statistics are hardly a determining factor of a films success, especially since Pacific Rim has grossed over $200.000.000 internationally and reached #1 anyway. I think if we get a Trailer by at least Christmas then Godzilla will do just fine concerning the box office. We are not striving for some lousy box office statistic, right? All we wan't is a damn good Godzilla film, right? So why all this uproar? I say let Legendary take as long as they like if it means getting a better movie.

As for the prospect of a Destroy All Monsters sequel, well the fan in me loves the idea but realistically it's too soon. Something like that should be built up with a series of films like what Marvel did with the Avengers given the multitude of TOHO Kaiju.

Well there you go. Sorry for the lengthly rant but I really had to get that off my chest.

G fan 84 ›

Not a big enough market in the usa for dai-kaiju movies so not gonna happen and nobody here doubts the movie
s gonna be good we know its gonna be F***ING AWSOME!!!;do u know what the international market means to movie studio exect's JACK DIDLY they only care about domestic numbers sad but true.

G fan 84 ›

Fact of the matter is trisatr marketed the hell of ZILLA98,clothes,toys,fastfood premotions, teasers and music videos domesticaly it a huge box office success!!! for a 1998 summer movie but a slap in face to hardcore GODZILLA fans;now it seems the marketing strategy this time around for WARNER BROTHERS is to start with the fans(at comicon) but even they had to go thrue hell just to get a glimpse of the new king according to www.figures.com 's report on the GODZILLA ENCOUNTER if u didnt own an iphone or droid or some kind of other doodad than u were shit out of luck.

Samzilla 14 ›

Sorry but that is just not true, international box office earnings are the final determining factor in a films success as well as it being worth a sequel or not. Maybe most American studios focus on domestic earnings but Legendary is not such a one.

And as stated by someone else earler, for all the success the 98 film garnered it's critical failure with G-fans as well as audiences around the world made sure that nothing bar some short lived cartoon spin-off ever saw the light of day again. Perhaps marketing was a little cheaper back in the 90's since nowadays it cost more then making a film, and I'm not sure weather Tri-star were financially better off for their time then Legendary are now.

We shall see, but I for one am optimistic.

GreenMan ›

@BIGBADBEN

Where did you get that information on the pollution Kaiju?

From what I've read that's the Kaiju they were going to use in the dropped Godzilla 3D movie.

I haven't heard or read anything about it being chosen for Legendary's Godzilla.

The only thing I've read about the other Kaiju Godzilla fights against is that it's apparently spider-like.

So if the information's true, there's a centipede-like Kaiju and a spider-like Kaiju.

bigbadben ›

@GREENMAN

i got that information out of a g-fan magazine dont recall witch one it was but MR. BANNO THE GUY WHO MADE GODZILLA FLY AND ALSO CREATED THE SMOG MONSTER HAS LONG SAID THAT HE WOULD LOVE TO MAKE A 3-D GODZILLA MOVIE AND SEEING HOW HE IS INVOLVED WITH THIS 3-D FILM I WOULD SAY THAT NOW I COULD BE WRONG ABOUT IT BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF SPIDER LIKE CENTIPEDE THAT HE WILL FIGHT AND BY THE WAY I STILL WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THAT BLUE OYSTER CULT SONG AT THE END OF THIS MOVIE EITHER WAY TO BE HONEST WITH ALL OF YOU THERE IS STILL SOME INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN THAT IS MY OPIONION ON IT

bigbadben ›

needless to say but there is still not that much information on this film at all just from what we have read and what we have been told and the leaked footage that has been taking off the web thanks to our good loyal bastard friends WARNER BROS. i dont mean that in disrespect but come on cant we have that footage we die hard godzilla fans are dying for our king to look like that

bigbadben ›

@GREENMAN

by the way the 3-d film you are refering to was not dropped TOHO SAW FIT ONCE MORE TO GIVE US AMERICANS ANOTHER CHANCE OF MAKING A GODZILLA MOVIE BUT SOME INFORMATION WAS NOT GIVEN TO US IN FULL DETAIL THEY SENT MR.BANNO OVER TO WORK WITH GARETH EDWARDS ON THIS FILM BUT WEATHER OR NOT THEY DECIDED TO KEEP THE POLLUTION MONSTER IS STILL A MYSTERY ONE THAT I GUARANTEED I JUST CRACKED BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE WILL BE 2 MONSTERS THAT GODZILLA FIGHTS ONE THE SPIDER LIKE MONSTER WHICH TO ME IS....THE GIANT CENTIPEDE AND HELLO WHAT'S THIS ANOTHER MONSTER THAT WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT..... DOES THAT TELL YOU ANYTHING I MEAN SERIOUSLY THINK ABOUT IT WHY HAVE THEY NOT GIVEN US FULL DETAIL ON THE FILM WHY ARE THEY KEEPING THINGS SECRET? BECAUSE THEY ARE AFFRAID THAT SOME DIE HARD FAN SUCH AS MYSELF WILL REVEAL ALL TO YOU GUYS BEFORE THE FILM IS RELEASED NOW LIKE I HAVE SAID I VERY WELL COULD BE WRONG BUT WITH ALL THIS STUFF THAT I HAVE READ AND TALKED WITH YOU GUYS ON THIS FILM I MEAN COME ON I HAVE NO PROMISES THAT I AM RIGHT ABOUT ANYTHING BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT TOHO WANTS THE ABSOULTE BEST NOT ONLY FOR US DIE HARD FANS BUT TO PLEASE OTHER ADUIENCEES THINK ABOUT WHAT I HAVE SAID GUYS YOU MAY GET WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS BUT SHOULD GARETH EDWARDS EVER READ ANY OF THIS PLEASE GARETH RELEASE MORE DETAIL ABOUT THIS FILM BEFORE ITS TOO LATE THANK YOU

BY THE WAY WHERE THE HELL IS BANANASUGARLOAD? I WOULD HATE TO THINK THAT SOMEONE GAVE UP SO EASILY ON A FILM THAT WE REALLY DONT KNOW ALL THAT MUCH ABOUT

Doomsday83 ›

I loved the way Godzilla looked in the leaked footage. But the one thing that worries me is that in a lot of the concept art we have seen, his feet look incredibly stupid. Why the hell would they give him elephant feet? He is a predator, he should have legs built more like a t-rex.

Scarfo ›

I agree, that concept art of Godzilla with elephant feet looks stupid. I doubt they're using that for the movie. I don't know, I haven't seen the new trailer (I wasn't able to go to SDCC this year). However, one of our fellow members "TheOxygenDestroyah54" was there to see the trailer, I hear the trailer showed what Godzilla's foot looks like. He would be the man to ask.

@GREENMAN

just to give you a heads up again the 3-d godzilla film that toho was going to do once again was not dropped just given to gareth edwards to do the job for them which i kinda have faith in edwards he did the dark knight with justice so i do believe he will bring justice to godzilla as well since we also know that the guy who did the special effects with the lord of the rings trilogy will be doing the special effects for this godzilla film which will be even more groundbreaking than ever not to mention that with the king kong remake done thanks to the handiwork of peter jackson that should be some kind of indication that this godzilla film will be far better than that and in case you are wondering godzilla to me in this film looks to be anywhere from 150-200 meters tall which of course i would love to see him at least 600 feet tall for the first time ever i really dont know we all must wait to see this film in theathers on may 16th 2014 of course let me know what you think

Gareth says he would like to do a sequel?

So, this means either Godzilla doesn't die in this movie or he has a son. Hooray! Godzilla better not get killed by the military like in the 1998 film.

I am a huge Godzilla fanatic and enthusiast. I am so excited for the return of the king of monsters and its newer look. I hope they have CGI. I do like how Gareth wants to focus on the story and emotions with people the most. That is very important for making a successful movie. I am not familiar with Gareth, but based on his quotes and previous interviews, and with Toho's support, this movie will rock. I also would love to have there be a sequel. This could unlock a series.
