In a smart move to avoid a blockbuster clash with Fast and Furious 9 at the 2020 box office, Warner Brothers have decided to shift the release date for Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong (2020)! The third Monsterverse installment will now release on March 13th, 2020, a shift up from it's original May 22nd release date.
We can't blame WB for wanting to give Godzilla vs. Kong as much earning potential as possible and the shift works out great for us fans who will now get to see the epic battle 2 months earlier!

Not surprising after Fast & Furious 9 moved to May 22nd. GvK was going to get killed. A little surprised it was moved to an earlier date though. Luckily it won't face any competition until two weeks later when Mulan comes out--And by then I expect the movie will have largely run out of momentum.
I meant between Godzilla films. When 2014 came out we knew they'd greenlit a sequel, but it took a good while for it to finally get into production, and we didn't immediately know about Kong, that's all I was talking about. I loved Skull Island immensely, don't misunderstand, I was strictly speaking about G-Films.
MDK 2 (MinecraftDinoKaiju), I assumed they would push it back as well to allow for a little more post-production time. But the new date is the same weekend Skull Island was released on two years ago--Yet with far less competition. It's also a weekend many schools have spring break, so I'm assuming WB is banking on that as well.
I remember when I went to the Tuesday showing for Kong: Skull Island after its release where I live, and it was a REALLY packed theatre; had a line-up going in and everything.
G. H. (Gman) Yeah. but then again, you never know what movies may also be coming out around that time. (i.e. a new live-action remake of a Disney movie, or another Marvel movie, or even an original film) So really, either way, it is risky.
March 6th, 2020 - The Lovebirds, Onward March 13th, 2020 - Godzilla vs. Kong, Gambit (likely cancelled), Untitled Blumhouse Movie March 20th, 2020 - I Still Believe, Playing with Fire March 27th, 2020 - Disney's Mulan, G.I. Joe 3, Snake Eyes
Deadline reported in February that Gambit isn't in active development anymore, Fox has just yet to make an official announcement on the matter.
The only real competition for Godzilla vs. Kong in March is Mulan and that's two weeks later. Something tells me G.I. Joe 3 will move out of the month so it doesn't get bulldozed by Mulan. (Assuming it ever enters production to begin with.)
The rest are romantic comedies, a religious film and a cheaper horror movie. They're no threat.
Yeah, though really, with the *SJW* stuff going on at Disney, Mulan sounds like it might fail. Then again, I could be wrong. Either way, let's just wait and see.
Guys, I wouldn't be worried about competition. Its ****ing Godzilla vs. Kong, although the performance of Kotm will also debate a little on how well Godzilla vs. Kong will do, but a LOT of people are gonna wanna see Godzilla vs. Kong
Yeah, but still, it's the same thing with Jurassic Park and Transformers: a lot of people still want to see dinosaurs and giant robots, but you need to know who the competition is first.
