Deadline has reported that Charles Dance will be joining the cast of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. His role in the film is currently unknown as of yet. However, Deadline also confirmed that Sally Hawkins would be reprising her role of Dr. Vivienne Graham from the 2014 film.

As of now, Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe are the only actors returning from the first film. Little is known about the plot, although the return of Drs Serizawa and Graham do indicate that Monarch will have a large presence in the film.

Monarch may have more Kaiju then they can deal with in this film thanks to the post credits sequence of Kong: Skull Island. As a reminder, the Kaiju teased in this summer's blockbuster were Rodan, King Ghidorah and Mothra, truly giving Godzilla a chance to claim his crown as 'King of the Monsters'.

Dance will join the emerging cast of the film which already includes Millie Bobby Brown,O'Shea Jackson, Aisha Hinds, Anthony Ramos, Vera Farmiga, and Kyle Chandler in cast the film.Godzilla King: Monsters will release on Mar. 22, 2019. The film will be directed by Michael Dougherty, and written by Zach Shields. Stay tuned to Scified as more casting news breaks!

I'm very happy and pleased that Sally Hawkins is returning as Dr. Vivienne Graham. She and Ken Watanabe's Dr. Serizawa were very credible as colleagues and scientists with something to hide, but solve at the same time. I thought her nuanced performance was excellent.

This is good news.

Man, Charles Dance is such a great actor! Brilliant as Dr. Clemens in ALIEN 3!

Charles Dance is arguably a greater screen presence than Bryan Cranston--His inclusion demands he not be wasted, so this better be one hell of a screenplay.

As for Sally Hawkins... I just hope she accepted the role with the condition that she has more to do. I was really looking forward to Watanabe's Dr. Serizawa working on his own so we could focus more on his character and backstory.

But if the movie goes back to Dr. Graham merely asking him a bunch of questions then there's been no improvement. Her inclusion hurt both characters in the 2014 film: All she did was ask questions. She had no arc. Furthermore it made Serizawa out to be an exposition spout--Her inquiries gave him reason to spout it. If they're both returning the dynamic needs to be challenged or changed. They can't be grouped in a safe zone for the film's duration. Put them center to the action! For God's sake someone watch a Sekizawa written Godzilla movie to see how that's done!

@G.H. (Gman) I really think they both will have more to offer this time. This time around, we have, in my opinion, a better director and two better screenwriters.

So do you guy's thing Ken Watanabe's character is going to be the main lead this time?

The King of the Monsters

Just pure speculation at this point, but I'm considering the possibility that Dance could be playing a much older version of James Conrad, Tom Hiddleston's character from Kong: Skull Island. It would be a nice connection between the films, and actually make sense given the character's induction into Monarch at the end of the film.

I'm actually very happy to see Hawkins returning. I really think her and Watanabe were seriously underdeveloped and underused, and have so much more potential. If they give the characters more screentime and actually give Hawkins a role beyond simply asking Watanabe questions or setting up his dialogue, then the human cast in this film could be much stronger than the first.

My mind sort of exploded at this thought.

I think you're right .. The King of the Monsters ... it is so obvious given the time line.. and the look of both characters. Older Conrad.. makes perfect sense. and he will probably be in the third movie as well.. since Conrad has first hand knowledge and experience as it relates to Kong. They will seek out Conrad for expertise.. and they will find a way to get Kong and Godzilla to team up against Ghidorah... after they fight each other first.. or maybe the battle will take place on skull island.

This is all speculation and theory of coarse.. but oh man.

I Meme Everything

Sally's return is predictable, she worked with Serizawa in '14
