The official Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters website announced the film's composer today. Series veteran Takayuki Hattori will be scoring the animated feature. For Godzilla fans, Hattori is best known for his work on Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) and Godzilla 2000 (1999).

In addition to the Godzilla series, Hattori also has a great deal of experience with anime, including the Slayers series and the theatrical OVA series, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. The composer should feel right at home scoring a Godzilla anime.

The Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters soundtrack will be released November 15th--Two days before the film's Japanese theatrical release on November 17th.

For an example of Hattori's work you can listen to his Godzilla theme from Godzilla 2000 below:

What do you think of Hattori's return to the series? Did you enjoy his previous contributions? Does he seem like the right man for Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters? Sound off below.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters stars the voice talents of Mamoru Miyano (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Ultraman Zero: The Movie), Takahiro Sakurai (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), Kana Hanazawa (.hack//Quantum), Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan), Tomokazu Sugita (Attack on Titan), Junichi Suwabe (Space Dandy), Kenta Miyake (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn), Kenyu Horiuchi (Bleach, One Piece), Kazuhiro Yamaji (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children) and Kazuya Nakai (Dragon Ball Super). The film is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare) & Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia) from a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi (Kamen Rider Gaim).

I hope what we heard on the new trailer isn't all he is giving us. So far im not all that thrilled with the score.

The song from the trailer is just the tie-in theme song for the film performed by the singer XAI. It's not an actual part of Takayuki Hattori's score. The same thing happened with Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. The tie-in song "Echoes of Love" performed by the band Date of Birth was featured in marketing for the film and played over the end credits, but was completely separate from Takayuki Hattori's score.

Yeah, lets not judge one artist's score off of a completely different artist's song. These are two completely different sonic facets connected to the movie.

That being said, Hattori does give me pause.
