Co-director of Toho's next Godzilla movie, Shinji Higuchi is apparently feeling some anxiety when it comes to delivering a quality Godzilla film that fans worldwide will appreciate. The original article was posted in Japanese, but thanks to our friends at Gormaru Island, we have a rough translation:

"Long story short, Shinji has extreme anxiety regarding GODZILLA-2016 due to the growing expectations from G-fans in Japan and overseas.

Representing the Japanese Godzilla, returning Godzilla back to his dark nuclear roots with the boasting of him "our worst nightmare", and attempting to deliver Godzilla with the best special effects possible. All of this is weighing on our director, as it should because dropping Godzilla in your own native country is like fumbling a pass that could have won you the super bowl in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter. It's going to be something that you won't be able to live down in your career within the film industry."

The article they're referencing of course can be found here.

I'm not at all surprised by this. G-Fans all over can be the greatest of fans or the worst.  But for good reason, just look at the year 1998. But all G-Fans should be very well confident of what will become with Godzilla 2016.  Even if a new experience of the creature is brought up, as long it looks like Godzilla, acts like Godzilla, and feels like Godzilla, then more than likely we will accept it as a Godzilla movie.  Do we expect the 2016 movie to be the best Godzilla Movie ever made? No, of coarse not.  Do we expect it to be enjoyable?  Yes, but that goes for any movie.  We fans might give pressure, but we aren't expecting something like '98. That kind of pressure went towards Garreth Edwards.

"Dear Higuchi-san:

Given the nature of the project, this film and its subject and history, what you are feeling experiencing is natural. But you are a gifted, talented and visionary filmmaker. You are one Japan's brilliant sons of tokusatsu. Just pour these feelings into the images of the great film you are making. I am certain that you will bring the vision of Godzilla that we've all been waiting for. You can do this. Your work proves this without any doubt. Your love and reverence for tokusatsu and its unique qualities and characteristics are what the Series needs right now. You are where you should be, doing what you should be doing.

"I look forward to what I anticipate being a stunning experience next year, God willing."

Sincerely,

Jamaal Abdul-Rahim
