... A primate having a beard is actually quite realistic and an accurate design choice on their part, so not sure how that makes the Monsterverse dumber, or going to SPECIFICALLY make this movie flop...

So the rumors were true. It certainly seemed like an odd choice, but then I remembered about Mountain gorillas. If you look them up you'll see they have a good deal more hair around their face and chin than the Lowland gorillas we're used to seeing, so they must be pulling from that for Kong to help differentiate him from the other past versions, which I can appreciate.

I know, I've been sitting here for weeks trying to make sense of the beard, it was thanks to you mentioning it that I finally remembered mountain gorillas. I'm hoping it looks fuller in the movie though, this picture makes it seem a little too thin and spiky, combine that with his cheekbones and I keep getting Abe Lincoln vibes.
Oct-14-2019 2:10 PM
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Yeah, it really does make him look like Abe Lincoln! XD
Wait, if Kong is Abe Lincoln... does that make Godzilla a Confederate? .... Uh oh... Dougherty's gots some 'xplainin to do!

Y'know, come to think of it... Godzilla Technically absorb energy from Mothra, sooo… That's it. As soon as a full textless version of this poster comes out, I am making a Vampire vs Lincoln version. :P
Oct-14-2019 2:34 PM
Kaiju News Outlet compared Kong's new beard to the FANTASTIC one that belongs to his first film's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
New headcanon! They used Jordan Vogt-Roberts for motion capture of Kong's new beard :D
Oct-14-2019 2:35 PM
Oh my god he's a vampire... and I guess that would make Ghidorah the werewolf? But he was sucking energy from Godzilla's neck- oh my god... I just realized it... Godzilla is the og type of vampire, like Dracula, because of his greyish coloration and his toned down shit... and Ghidorah... is Twilight Vampire, because he's so shiny and bright colored, has a shrill voice, regenerates really quickly because of the giant fanbase, and most of all... has a giant storm following em because he's an edgelord... dear god...
Oct-14-2019 3:05 PM
The beard is all kinds of dumb; And it will flop simply because no one cares about it and no one cared about kotm. If people think Godzilla and the Monsterverse will go mainstream like Marvel you are living in a fantasy world. Also, Judging by the morons at the LA comic con monsterverse panel, (Will we see Destroyah derp derp, Will we see Mechagodzilla derp derp) You G fans haven't learned anything at all.
Oct-14-2019 3:27 PM
... The fuck? What does that even have to do with anything? The beard is ACCURATE, which is what this series is going for. The beard is just an ACCURATE, unique design choice; it won't be the deciding factor of whether this movie flops or not. People are asking those questions because A. The end credits of KOTM mentioned Monarch creating a giant robot on Skull Island, B. We've already had a lot of Toho Kaiju brought into the movies, and C. I'ts fucking fun to think about. Also, no one thinks it's going to go MARVEL mainstream; that's fucking Disney. It might become a kind of fun thing the general audience would kinda like, like Lord Of The Rings of Harry Potter, but maybe not quite THAT popular. No one ever thought THOSE books would become so widely loved, especially since back then they were very niche. Hell, even Marvel was niche before Iron Man was made, making that shit as popular as it is now. So saying it can't even be LIKED by the general audience, especially with the reviews that KOTM got, is actually quite stupid and close minded. Hell, it seems the only reason you don't think it well is because of the profits and critic ratings (not audience) of ONE of THREE movies already out. THAT'S fucking stupid.
Also, if I recall, YOU were a G fan a couple months ago. YOU were happy about this movie. YOU lurked and signed up for this forum. YOU are still here. In conclusion, YOU are just a closeted G fan.
If you weren't always here and you at least didn't include "Also, Judging by the morons at the LA comic con monsterverse panel, (Will we see Destroyah derp derp, Will we see Mechagodzilla derp derp) You G fans haven't learned anything at all. " Then I MIGHT have been able to take you seriously, but NOOOO, you just had to make an Ad Hominem and now I'm stooping to your level which is just fucking great! No offense meant, but I'm getting really sick of you pretending like you were never G Fan in the first place and that we're all dumb because we don't necessarily agree.
TL;Dr ... Your logic is kinda flawed because of the reasons of the first paragraph, and then in the second paragraph on is just a stupid rant.
Oct-14-2019 4:08 PM
@TheLazyFish I agree
However I did say ignore Macumbalove, he is a troll and he feeds of our comments like some sort of internet vampire. Pay no further attention to him
Oct-14-2019 4:20 PM
I'm just annoyed because he used to be a G Fan like us, and turned completely around as soon as the critic reviews came for KOTM, to the point of insulting everyone around him. Don't believe me? Go back to his early activity.
But, you're right... but it's fun... but, more importantly, it's the wrong topic. So, final words, Kong's beard looks nice and is pretty accurate, but makes him look like Abe Lincoln.
Oct-14-2019 4:28 PM
I believe you and yes Kong does slightly look like Honest Abe Lincoln. If Kong is Abe Lincoln, does that make Godzilla Ryoma Sakamoto?
Oct-14-2019 6:55 PM
The monsterverse is mediocre at best, and there are people on here that think it's high art. The bottom line is this: Critics hated this film and the general audience didn't give 2 shits about it. That's why GvsK will fail and it will be the final monsterverse film. It isn't looking good for Godzilla right now; Because once GvsK fails, Toho will start making boring, safe suitmation crap with your standard Rodan/Mothra/King Ghidorah/MechaG plot points that are more stale than last weeks left open potato chips. Or, we will get another over rated shit show like Shin or the animated trilogy. <cringes>
Oct-14-2019 6:59 PM
... How is Shin overrated tho? And the audience reviews for KOTM were pretty high... and GVK will have people that only watched Skull Island or people who only like Kong watching it. In fact, crossover films usually do better at box office, so GVK actually has some cards stacked in its favor, especially since Kong is essentially the most iconic "Kaiju" in America to a lot, because of the original movie.

Okay, so I've gotta ask a question macumbalove: What Godzilla movies DO you like? I get you've been burned on the MonsterVerse, and you don't like the experimental stuff Japan's done so far, and you're not a fan of plot rehashes, so what does that leave you? At what point did, in general at least, the franchise make a wrong turn in your eyes, and why?
Oct-15-2019 7:19 PM
I love most of the Showa era; I don't like KKvsG, Raids again, or Godzilla's revenge. Mothra vs Godzilla is over-rated but still good, and Megalon is so bad it's good. The Heisei era I love G'84/85 and Biollante. The rest of the era is mediocre at best. The Millenium era is dog shit, The reiwa (i'm not sure if i'm spelling it right) is dog shit so far. And of course the Monsterverse is mediocre. Terror of Mechagodzilla and Monster zero are two of my all time favorites.
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Oct-15-2019 7:41 PM
Alright, now we have a good baseline, thanks for answering so comprehensively. And cool, Terror is one of my favorites too. Now the follow up question, which I know will probably get messy, is why don't you like the majority of movies after the Showa era? Because I'm not going to try and force you to like movies you don't, but simply calling them garbage and leaving it at that comes across as a lot ruder than I think you're trying to be. Some explanations, or phrasing things a bit more subjectively, would probably go a long way in diffusing a lot of the ire you seem to stir up when you comment.
Oct-15-2019 8:12 PM
I'll post multiple times and try to answer as in depth as possible:
GvsGK '91: Boring movie, Time travel plot contrivance was stupid back then. G's design and the fight scenes were cool though.
GvsMothra '92: Again pretty dull; Godzilla seems like an afterthought; Should've been a Mothra solo movie vs Battra.
GvsMechaG '93: Terrible MechaG suit; Terrible Rodan suit. Very boring G vs Military scenes with surprised and shocked looking personnel, Like what do you think is going to happen?
Gvs SpaceG '94: Ridiculous Little G design, Even more ridiculous Space G design, Cumbersome, over-long fight scenes, Space G looks like an evil chandelier, Don't get me started on the Yakuza sub-plot.
GvsDestroyah: ......ok this one REALLY pissed me off when I first saw it. The first copy I saw was a bootleg camcorded theater copy that was filmed supposedly on opening night. 1) The script was effing terrible! Destroyah posed no real apocalyptic threat to humanity was barely threat to G or G junior. He had to get to his final form just to defeat G junior. After G junior's death G should've defeated Destroyah himself instead of the JSDF doing it; Really effing lame! And for the ultimate eff you to Destroyah being G junior being resurrected anyway. While I like the burning G suit and his death scene and junior's resurrection scene were well done, The movie was meh. I guess I had too high expectations for it, I was expecting there to be scenes ala smog monster where destroyah flew over and vaporized humans with micro oxygen. oh well. That's my Heisei analysis, Millenium will come tomorrow. I hope I answered in the way you hoped.
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Oct-15-2019 8:46 PM
I wasn't actually expecting an individual analysis for each movie, but I mean that in a good way. This again is very comprehensive, which I again thank you for taking the time to type up. In turn I'll keep my mouth shut for the most part and just let you finish up, but I do have a couple short bits for the Heisei stuff.
GvM'92: I believe that may have been the intent at some point in production, but Godzilla was added to boost the appeal.
GvMG'93: I actually have a soft spot for these suits, but that is entirely due to playing a LOT of Destroy All Monsters Melee during my childhood.
GvD'95: Ah yes, a bad first experience can seriously mess with any future viewings. I agree Destoroyah is rather overhyped amongst G-fans, but I think the apocalyptic nature of his existence has to do more with the fact that he's the living embodiment of the only stuff stronger than Godzilla. So just as Godzilla is the personification of the dangers of atomic energy, Destoroyah is the fear of what will come next. But yes, some more scenes of actual devastation would have made that much more clear.
Oct-16-2019 7:16 AM
Kamoebas V.6, please stop doing what you are doing because this does not help. We have finally come to a point where we are having an actual regular discussion with Macumba so please don't ruin this. Instead, try something like give your view of the Heisei movies or give reasons to why you disagree with his view of the movies.
Oct-16-2019 7:52 AM
Have you even read the last few comments? At least we have come to the point where Macumba is explaining his problems with the movies instead of him saying that he just hates everything. Clearly Gomi: Ninja Monster appreciates this approach and so do I because this is the way discussions should be had.
You seem to only want to fight fire with fire by just screaming "frick you too!" adding nothing to the debate. It clearly didn't work in the past as you made a full topic on him trying to get fans on your side, but instead, the topic got blocked for reasons which you were clearly warned for. Instead, try to fight fire with water and ask questions as to why he thinks of certain things.
Oct-16-2019 8:24 AM
Juts one more thing, those topics were...as i like to say,BULLSHIT!I don't want people to be on my side,i want them to be on the correct side, because i am always wrong! And i actually deserve to be banned but im not banned...its because im basically the worst user on Scified,i have been warned,i just don't like whats popular,i don't like the Heisei Godzilla,i freaking hate Shin Godzilla...and im sorry for the bad things i said,i usually don't ask questions because the answer will be an answer that i disagree with. But everyone has opinions!
Oct-16-2019 8:43 AM
For me when it comes to Godzilla movies its Monsterverse, then its Showa, then its Heisei, then its Millennium, then its Reiwa.
I dislike Shin Godzilla as well. Although the design of Shin Godzilla and its powers grew on me, However I still think Shin Godzilla should have been an enemy to a True Godzilla.
Godzilla design aside, I really hate the political side of Shin Godzilla, the characters are boring and some of their ambitions and view points are cartoony. "I want to be president of United States!" jeez just because she is american doesn't mean every american wants to be president, I mean this happens a lot in Japanese media when regarding Americans and its freaking annoying. She sounds like an 8 year old. "I love politics, its so simple!" like really? Politics is simple, yeah right.
The only other Godzilla movie that I hate beside Shin Godzilla is Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, which I agree with Macumbalove 110%
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Oct-16-2019 9:10 AM
And on cue, a mess. :P
There really isn't a problem with not liking what's popular, it's the way people express that opinion which causes issues. The key thing to remember is that no matter what you do, everyone is going to like or dislike different things. You may disagree with them, but as long as it's not something obviously bad like if murdering people for fun is okay, it's fine for people to have different opinions. I'd bet you haven't been banned because everyone is willing to give you a second chance, but it's up to you to make the most of it. I'd recommend taking a couple second before posting a comment about something you dislike to see if what you're about to say will come off as rude or insulting to the people who do enjoy it. Again it's fine to not like what everyone else does, but the goal is to express your distaste for the thing itself, not the people you disagree with. We all like Godzilla to some extent or we wouldn't be here, just try to remember that.
Oct-16-2019 9:26 AM
The Monsterverse movies are my favorite. BUUUUUT the Showa movies are still amazing. The Heisei era was really nice, the millenium movies with the exception of Final wars and GMK suck, Shin was fine, the anime movies were wasted potential.

Patterson was the daughter of an American senator, a born American citizen and a politician herself. She was an envoy working directly for the President so she was in a position to potentially become President in the future with all of these things working in her favor. At no point did she say, "I love politics, they're so simple." The entire point of the film is quite the opposite, so I'm not sure what form of air you're pulling that from.
Oct-16-2019 12:29 PM
First of all, @Gmkgoji Did you mean to put that banner in your other forum?
Second, this forum looks like it got out of hand, so let me help with putting it back on track by saying that Kong's beard might have something to do with how he might get a power-up. (Ever heard of Static Electricity?)
Oct-16-2019 12:35 PM
Yeah, I can agree with that. I think the beard is a great addition to Kong's character. It gives him an old Wiseman feel to him and it shows that he has grown over the years in both his size and experience.
Maybe it could be connected to his electric powers. Not sure they will go down that route though seeing as they already did that in the original. I think they will either not add any powers to Kong or they will give him a new ability to use against Godzilla.
Oct-16-2019 7:57 PM
Now the Millenium series, But first: @Gomi: Ninja Monster Destroy All monsters melee was a GREAT game. @Kamoebas V.6 Dude, Come on I'm trying to be civil here, Just disagree and move on. ok.....
Godzilla 2000: This one is popular with the younger G crowd and understandably so; It was the first real G film that saw a pretty good theatrical release, But I'm just not into it. I love Orga, But the G suit looks like a rat to me. I don't like the broad neck and the purple spikes and the secod act draaaaags. The final kill is great though.
GvsMegaguirus: Again, Boring fight scenes (again, to me), Same lame G suit, the interdimensional stuff just did nothing for me. I do like Megaguirus as a kaiju; Her roar is great and she's a smart fighter. I also like the score of this film as well, But that's all I can give it.
GMK: I get A LOT of shit for this, But I nearly hate this movie. I despise the G suit; Tiny head, Over-sized feet, pot belly, white eyes, and the neck is too long. The suits just look too fake and rubbery to me and I hate what they did to Baragon; They shrunk him and changed his roar which i thought was one of the more unique in the Toho universe. The ending was dumb; with G shooting his atomic breath out of his shoulder then blowing up and his his heart is left to regenerate....bleh. I thought Mothra's wasp-esque look was cool.
G against Mechag'02: One of the most boring, stale, unnecessary G films there is. Mechag's design is a little better this time around bu that's it. Lame fight scenes, absolute zero cannon is dumb, and the lead actress has the charisma of a dead rat.
Tokyo S.O.S.: Same same old. Again, Unnecessary and boring as hell. Never thought I would get tired of MechaG but I was bored of him by the middle of this film. One of the dumbest plots of any Gfilm with the bones of the original G must be returned blah blah blah. My biggest problem with the 2 kiryu films is that G is depicted as just a big, dumb animal, When in the past he was shown to have intelligence when fighting.
G final Wars: <shudders> I won't get into too much detail other than this film is a steaming pile of dog shit. Goofy aliens, Terrible re-imaginings of classic monsters ( King Caesar in particular), Anguirus rolling was just....I can't even. Good monster time was sacrificed for boring human fights and stupid goth coat flipping bullshit.
Well that's it! I know I can phrase my posts better on here and I will work on that, But I am just giving an opinion. I am giving G'14, K:SI and KOTM another watch this weekend. If anyone cares enough, I will give an honest re-watch opinion.
Thanks for reading!

Oct-16-2019 9:02 PM
Yet again, thank you for the effort and detail you've put into this. As a heads up, I think any further conversations unrelated to Kong's beard are supposed to go to the "Topic for Discussions" that MDK just made. So after this comment I'll be looking for responses there, but since we're practically done it makes more sense to wrap this up here, so I'll finish it.
G'2000: I understand the American version actually cuts a lot of the superfluous padding, but I'm assuming that's the version you watched anyways so I'm just mentioning this for posterity.
GMK: Actually the G-suit has a huge head compared to stuff like the Heisei suits after '84, but otherwise I'll agree this one definitely has its flaws. Personally I'm more peeved this movie snubbed Anguirus and Varan in favor of name recognition, it messes with a lot of preestablished constants just to make it more marketable and that carries over to the monster designs(though I liked Mothra a lot too, she actually has bug feet instead of chicken claws).
GaM'02 & Tokyo SOS: I rather like these, but definitely the first more. The bone thing makes a bit more sense when you consider that G'54's spirit is supposed to be alive inside Kiryu, just suppressed by the machinery. He was brought back without a say, and he just wants to rest in peace. It's silly, but it works for me.
Final Wars: This one definitely requires the right mindset to enjoy, I personally love it but I get that it's not what everyone wants to see in their Godzilla films. I don't like the new design for Anguirus, but that rolling move was pulled straight from GDAMM because they thought it was cool and I agree. It did go through some visual changes because of the new suit, but still...
Anywho, glad to see this has been a productive conversation, and I'm sure the rest of us will now have a better understanding of where you're coming from going forward. I'd personally be down for that, but obviously either in it's own topic or in the aforementioned Discussion topic. Thanks one final time for taking this in stride and being so civil about the whole thing, it's amazing what can be accomplished when people stop shouting at each other and listen.
Oct-16-2019 10:08 PM
Ah, inner peace (yes I know that meme is dead, but it fits perfectly).
Thanks for going so in depth into your thoughts on each film. It really helped me get your perspective, and I understand where you're coming from. I haven't watched any Millenium movies besides Godzilla 2000, GMK, and Godzilla V.S. Megaguirus (not sure why in the fuck I thought GMK was Heisei for a moment there, really dropped the ball on that one). I agree with your assessment on 2000, but I personally like GMK. Godzilla V.S. Megaguirus was a pretty fun one too. Anyways, I'm just going to stop posting on this article. Thanks for effort you put into your detail. Maybe you should do an actual review of each movie as separate topics, it'd be pretty interesting to hear your thoughts on all of them.
Nov-01-2019 6:31 PM
Just a quick thought on GvsK, There are tiny morsels of info coming out about Eiza Gonzales and Alex Skarsgard's characters. What concerns me is in both articles they mention levity (humor). I also see that Eric Pearson, who wrote Thor ragnarok co-wrote the screenplay. I hate the MCU and that one in particular. I really hope this movie isn't filled with Marvel-esque jokes and stupid dialogue.
G. H. (Gman)
Nov-01-2019 7:19 PM
I don't mind humor as long as it works. The problem with the "humor" in King of the Monsters was that it was all horribly cringey--Some of the worst "jokes" and one liners I've heard put to film in decades.
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Nov-01-2019 9:05 PM
Heh, to be fair, a humorous film would be pretty in line with the original movie. Not saying I don't want seriousness in my ape-on-dinosaur brawl, just that it wouldn't exactly be unprecedented.
G. H. (Gman)
Nov-01-2019 11:01 PM
I think most crossovers lean in to the absurdity of the concept--Or at least used to before the MCU. Honda and Tsuburaya knew the idea of Godzilla and Kong meeting was dumb as hell, so they turned it into a goofy, salaryman satire with Godzilla and Kong being sumo-wrestling clowns at the mercy of international laws. If the new version does anything remotely that clever I'll be shocked...
Gomi: Ninja Monster
Nov-02-2019 6:15 AM
I'd like to point out that the MCU is mostly based on comic books, where crossovers are both largely serious and a staple event. It's really just cinema that never took crossovers seriously because interconnected stories that aren't just sequels or prequels had only been done like twice until the MCU. Crossovers were cash grabs and everyone knew it, comics just wove it into the stories as well.
GvK no longer has to lampshade the absurdity of it's existence because crossovers are normal now, which either means they'll do something clever regardless or just do KoTM again with Kong this time. But again, I'm here for the monster fights, so if the story and writing are brilliant than awesome. If not, that's fine with me. I'm watching a Godzilla movie, I'm used to it.
