Kong will sport a beard in Godzilla vs. Kong 2020!

It appears Kong's appearance will be given an upgrade for his clash with Godzilla next year! A new press release has been sent out to investors recently and with it a new promotional image for Godzilla vs. Kong. Along with the following write-up, we can see Kong now sports a big beard - fitting since he has ages quite a bit and grown to match the stature of his reptilian rival. Not only that, the press release also reveals that the Monsterverse collectively has generated $1.4 Billion in revenue and that Warner Brothers and Legendary both consider King of the Monsters a success. Check it out:

Following the success of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), comes Godzilla vs. Kong, the next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse.

The epic action adventure will pit two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another – the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong – in a throw-down of epic proportions.

Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise has generated over $1.4 billion in gross box office and continues to appeal to wide audiences including core fans, families, kids, young adults, and collectors.

Thanks to Gormaru Island for the spot!

... A primate having a beard is actually quite realistic and an accurate design choice on their part, so not sure how that makes the Monsterverse dumber, or going to SPECIFICALLY make this movie flop...

So the rumors were true. It certainly seemed like an odd choice, but then I remembered about Mountain gorillas. If you look them up you'll see they have a good deal more hair around their face and chin than the Lowland gorillas we're used to seeing, so they must be pulling from that for Kong to help differentiate him from the other past versions, which I can appreciate.

I know, I've been sitting here for weeks trying to make sense of the beard, it was thanks to you mentioning it that I finally remembered mountain gorillas. I'm hoping it looks fuller in the movie though, this picture makes it seem a little too thin and spiky, combine that with his cheekbones and I keep getting Abe Lincoln vibes.

Kaiju News Outlet compared Kong's new beard to the FANTASTIC one that belongs to his first film's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

New headcanon! They used Jordan Vogt-Roberts for motion capture of Kong's new beard :D

Oh my god he's a vampire... and I guess that would make Ghidorah the werewolf? But he was sucking energy from Godzilla's neck- oh my god... I just realized it... Godzilla is the og type of vampire, like Dracula, because of his greyish coloration and his toned down shit... and Ghidorah... is Twilight Vampire, because he's so shiny and bright colored, has a shrill voice, regenerates really quickly because of the giant fanbase, and most of all... has a giant storm following em because he's an edgelord... dear god...

The beard is all kinds of dumb; And it will flop simply because no one cares about it and no one cared about kotm. If people think Godzilla and the Monsterverse will go mainstream like Marvel you are living in a fantasy world. Also, Judging by the morons at the LA comic con monsterverse panel, (Will we see Destroyah derp derp, Will we see Mechagodzilla derp derp) You G fans haven't learned anything at all.

... The fuck? What does that even have to do with anything? The beard is ACCURATE, which is what this series is going for. The beard is just an ACCURATE, unique design choice; it won't be the deciding factor of whether this movie flops or not. People are asking those questions because A. The end credits of KOTM mentioned Monarch creating a giant robot on Skull Island, B. We've already had a lot of Toho Kaiju brought into the movies, and C. I'ts fucking fun to think about. Also, no one thinks it's going to go MARVEL mainstream; that's fucking Disney. It might become a kind of fun thing the general audience would kinda like, like Lord Of The Rings of Harry Potter, but maybe not quite THAT popular. No one ever thought THOSE books would become so widely loved, especially since back then they were very niche. Hell, even Marvel was niche before Iron Man was made, making that shit as popular as it is now. So saying it can't even be LIKED by the general audience, especially with the reviews that KOTM got, is actually quite stupid and close minded. Hell, it seems the only reason you don't think it well is because of the profits and critic ratings (not audience) of ONE of THREE movies already out. THAT'S fucking stupid.

Also, if I recall, YOU were a G fan a couple months ago. YOU were happy about this movie. YOU lurked and signed up for this forum. YOU are still here. In conclusion, YOU are just a closeted G fan.

If you weren't always here and you at least didn't include "Also, Judging by the morons at the LA comic con monsterverse panel, (Will we see Destroyah derp derp, Will we see Mechagodzilla derp derp) You G fans haven't learned anything at all. " Then I MIGHT have been able to take you seriously, but NOOOO, you just had to make an Ad Hominem and now I'm stooping to your level which is just fucking great! No offense meant, but I'm getting really sick of you pretending like you were never  G Fan in the first place and that we're all dumb because we don't necessarily agree.

TL;Dr ... Your logic is kinda flawed because of the reasons of the first paragraph, and then in the second paragraph on is just a stupid rant.

I'm just annoyed because he used to be a G Fan like us, and turned completely around as soon as the critic reviews came for KOTM, to the point of insulting everyone around him. Don't believe me? Go back to his early activity.

But, you're right... but it's fun... but, more importantly, it's the wrong topic. So, final words, Kong's beard looks nice and is pretty accurate, but makes him look like Abe Lincoln.

The monsterverse is mediocre at best, and there are people on here that think it's high art. The bottom line is this: Critics hated this film and the general audience didn't give 2 shits about it. That's why GvsK will fail and it will be the final monsterverse film. It isn't looking good for Godzilla right now; Because once GvsK fails, Toho will start making boring, safe suitmation crap with your standard Rodan/Mothra/King Ghidorah/MechaG plot points that are more stale than last weeks left open potato chips. Or, we will get another over rated shit show like Shin or the animated trilogy. <cringes>

User Avatar
TheLazyFish

... How is Shin overrated tho? And the audience reviews for KOTM were pretty high... and GVK will have people that only watched Skull Island or people who only like Kong watching it. In fact, crossover films usually do better at box office, so GVK actually has some cards stacked in its favor, especially since Kong is essentially the most iconic "Kaiju" in America to a lot, because of the original movie.

Okay, so I've gotta ask a question macumbalove: What Godzilla movies DO you like? I get you've been burned on the MonsterVerse, and you don't like the experimental stuff Japan's done so far, and you're not a fan of plot rehashes, so what does that leave you? At what point did, in general at least, the franchise make a wrong turn in your eyes, and why?

User Avatar

Are you only a fan of the original movie, or are you just a fan of the idea of Godzilla?

I love most of the Showa era; I don't like KKvsG, Raids again, or Godzilla's revenge. Mothra vs Godzilla is over-rated but still good, and Megalon is so bad it's good. The Heisei era I love G'84/85 and Biollante. The rest of the era is mediocre at best. The Millenium era is dog shit, The reiwa (i'm not sure if i'm spelling it right) is dog shit so far. And of course the Monsterverse is mediocre. Terror of Mechagodzilla and Monster zero are two of my all time favorites.

Alright, now we have a good baseline, thanks for answering so comprehensively. And cool, Terror is one of my favorites too. Now the follow up question, which I know will probably get messy, is why don't you like the majority of movies after the Showa era? Because I'm not going to try and force you to like movies you don't, but simply calling them garbage and leaving it at that comes across as a lot ruder than I think you're trying to be. Some explanations, or phrasing things a bit more subjectively, would probably go a long way in diffusing a lot of the ire you seem to stir up when you comment.

I'll post multiple times and try to answer as in depth as possible:

GvsGK '91: Boring movie, Time travel plot contrivance was stupid back then. G's design and the fight scenes were cool though.

GvsMothra '92: Again pretty dull; Godzilla seems like an afterthought; Should've been a Mothra solo movie vs Battra.

GvsMechaG '93: Terrible MechaG suit; Terrible Rodan suit. Very boring G vs Military scenes with surprised and shocked looking personnel, Like what do you think is going to happen?

Gvs SpaceG '94: Ridiculous Little G design, Even more ridiculous Space G design, Cumbersome, over-long fight scenes, Space G looks like an evil chandelier, Don't get me started on the Yakuza sub-plot.

GvsDestroyah: ......ok this one REALLY pissed me off when I first saw it. The first copy I saw was a bootleg camcorded theater copy that was filmed supposedly on opening night. 1) The script was effing terrible! Destroyah posed no real apocalyptic threat to humanity was barely threat to G or G junior. He had to get to his final form just to defeat G junior. After G junior's death G should've defeated Destroyah himself instead of the JSDF doing it; Really effing lame! And for the ultimate eff you to Destroyah being G junior being resurrected anyway. While I like the burning G suit and his death scene and junior's resurrection scene were well done, The movie was meh. I guess I had too high expectations for it, I was expecting there to be scenes ala smog monster where destroyah flew over and vaporized humans with micro oxygen. oh well. That's my Heisei analysis, Millenium will come tomorrow. I hope I answered in the way you hoped.

I wasn't actually expecting an individual analysis for each movie, but I mean that in a good way. This again is very comprehensive, which I again thank you for taking the time to type up. In turn I'll keep my mouth shut for the most part and just let you finish up, but I do have a couple short bits for the Heisei stuff.

GvM'92: I believe that may have been the intent at some point in production, but Godzilla was added to boost the appeal.

GvMG'93: I actually have a soft spot for these suits, but that is entirely due to playing a LOT of Destroy All Monsters Melee during my childhood.

GvD'95: Ah yes, a bad first experience can seriously mess with any future viewings. I agree Destoroyah is rather overhyped amongst G-fans, but I think the apocalyptic nature of his existence has to do more with the fact that he's the living embodiment of the only stuff stronger than Godzilla. So just as Godzilla is the personification of the dangers of atomic energy, Destoroyah is the fear of what will come next. But yes, some more scenes of actual devastation would have made that much more clear.
