A new Monsterverse Titan has been revealed! During an unexpected panel by Legendary this weekend at the LA Comic Con, we were given our first look at "Camazotz." Sporting a bat-like appearance, Camazotz is said to appear in an upcoming Kong graphic novel.

"Camazotz" is prominent in Mayan mythology, where the figure is associated with sacrifice, night, and death. The literal translation of the name "Camazotz" in English is "Death Bat." Another notable feature is that Camazotz is commonly shown as having only a single eye in traditional Mayan descriptions.

Having a new Titan with a mythical background is nothing new for the Monsterverse. Many of the new Titans showcased in Godzilla: King of the Monsters have a history of being associated with cultural legends, so it's not surprising that Legendary is continuing this trend with Camazotz. The new Titan may also be paying homage to other classic kaiju, such as Bagorah, the Giant Bat, or Battra.

Are you excited that there's now a new mammal/flying Titan in the Monsterverse? Let us know your thoughts about Camazotz in the comments below!

Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) is the sequel to Michael Dougherty's Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters and will be the fourth and final installment in the Monsterverse movie quadrilogy. I have to agree with ma***balove here, that design looks dope.

Camazotz is a badass name.

It looks like Battra,i like it.

TitanosaurusMember765 XPOct-13-2019 8:55 AM

It also looks like a combination of Battra and Otachi.

GiganMember2722 XPOct-13-2019 12:02 PM

I'm sorry but it doesn't look anything like battra, but it does like a World of Warcraft bat

RR44

BaragonMember339 XPOct-13-2019 12:52 PM

I think that would look sick on the big screen. Too bad its in a comic.

GiganAdmin4214 XPOct-13-2019 1:15 PM

You guys do realize Battra and his name has nothing to do with a bat right? His name is actually an amalgam of the Japanese words for "battle" and "Mothra".

Xenotaris

GiganMember2722 XPOct-13-2019 1:21 PM

@G.H. (Gman) I agree. Battra is a butterfly, not a bat.

Xenotaris

GiganMember2722 XPOct-13-2019 1:24 PM

I guess calling it Butterflyra doesn't sound as cool as Battra, But in all seriousness this new titan looks just like those giant bats you fly around on in World of Warcraft in the undead lands.

G. H. (Gman)

GiganAdmin4214 XPOct-13-2019 1:24 PM

He's a divine moth--Like Mothra.

Xenotaris

GiganMember2722 XPOct-13-2019 1:27 PM

Oh, looks like I made some errors when describing Battra in the gojiverse

G. H. (Gman)

GiganAdmin4214 XPOct-13-2019 1:30 PM

He's essentially the same creature as Mothra, merely described as the "Black Mothra". Battra is also sometimes referred to as "Battle Mothra" which is what his name is derived from.

Ohhhhhhhh!!!!

BaragonMember251 XPOct-13-2019 3:52 PM

I dunno, I'll have to see some more of this one before I make any judgments, but it seems promising enough. Name's cool, I'm looking forward to the explanation as to how it flies with those ratty wings though. Also, does no one remember the Giant Bat from Godzilla: The Series? This looks like a meaner, older version of that.

TitanosaurusMember968 XPOct-13-2019 4:19 PM

It looks cool, but it's too bad that it is restricted to a comic. Hopefully, it gets some screentime. (Maybe in a fight between it and possibly Rodan or Kong, perhaps?)

Thats a bat looking titan that's very cool

TheLazyFish

RodanMember1630 XPOct-13-2019 7:03 PM

Looks cool, but seeing as how bat creatures are usually one shot in... everything... I don't think the future is very bright for this one...

Mothra LarvaeMember24 XPOct-14-2019 7:14 AM

This sounds like an awesome edition! I'm familiar with his mythological basis enough that i'm interested in how they interpret Camazotz. Although, like TheLazyFish said, he may be a one and done. I hope not!

BaragonMember478 XPOct-14-2019 8:37 AM

Not the most original idea, but overall I'm pretty happy with most of the Monsterverse's original titans.

AnguirusMember1314 XPOct-21-2019 2:17 PM

JurassicKaiju14

TitanosaurusMember616 XPNov-21-2019 8:43 AM

Anyone else think that Kong is gonna crumple this thing's wings up like he did with the Pteranodon back in '33?

TheLazyFish

RodanMember1630 XPNov-21-2019 8:50 AM

Now that you mention it...

Gmkgoji

RodanMember1789 XPNov-21-2019 9:55 AM

Kong is gonna have to get past the death breath. (I think it has death breath?)

MinecraftDinoKaiju

TitanosaurusMember968 XPNov-21-2019 1:52 PM

@Gmkgoji You mean like Vaal-Hazak from the Monster Hunter series?

JurassicKaiju14

TitanosaurusMember616 XPNov-21-2019 3:46 PM

@Gmkgoji He'll deflect it with his Beard of Kong-ness!
