UPDATED: Old Dorsal Spikes? New images from Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters featured in Empire Magazine

Following our report earlier today regarding Empire Magazine's upcoming issue which featured a new image of Rodan and interview with Mike Dougherty, a low quality scan of the issue has made its way online and offers us a good look at one of the new images of Godzilla rising out of the Ocean!

It may not be the case, but it does look like the dorsal spikes on Godzilla in this new image are the same style as the 2014 dorsal spikes, not the revised style of the spikes witnessed so far. We speculate this image could be of a flashback sequence, or throughout the course of the film, Godzilla will "evolve" and develop the 1954-inspired upgraded dorsal spikes. Either way, it's worth considering:

UPDATE: A high resolution scan of the image above has been delivered!

I'm sorry if this turns out to be a spoiler, but I think Godzilla will get a power boost at some point in the movie, which will cause his dorsal spikes to transform into this "classic" style.

In the latest TV spot, during the intimidation scene, his spikes seem to bear a closer resemblance to their 2014 design. It's a bit hard to tell though, they're being obscured by the water.

Yeah, sorry. I can't tell. It's hard to know from the angle, but we won't fully know unless that shot is shown in motion.

Has anyone else noticed how they are keeping Charles Dance's character secret ? He's got to be Conrad as an old man. Every actor has a character name but his... www.imdb.com/title/tt3741700/fullcredits

I find that rather interesting. He may be the one who gets Kong and Godzilla to fight each other... or bring them together to fight something bigger and badder than both of them. I would find it hard to believe that Conrad would be a villain in this movie... but if he is... I like to know what turn him that way. Just speculating here.

Just speculating, but IF Charles Dance's character IS James Conrad, then MAYBE he wants Godzilla dead and Kong to be king. Real unlikely, but just speculating
