Sometime soon, NECA may not be able to make Godzilla figures for a brief period. In a recent interview with the YouTube channel Pixel Dan, Randy Falk from NECA discussed how there may be a Godzilla figure hiatus looming in the future.
This possible pause in production is due to the fact that Playmates Toys has the figure rights for Godzilla vs. Kong, and Legendary/Warner Bros. may not want any competition while the film's merchandise is available. While the two companies do occupy different areas of the collectibles market, the film's owners likely just want to prevent any chance at all of there being competition or confusion among general audience shoppers.
Rany also mentioned during the interview that there are currently two new Godzilla figures coming from NECA that haven't been previously revealed. And from the sounds of it, they may just be revealed sooner rather than later. The figures were likely planned to be showcased at SDCC this summer before its cancellation, so expect an announcement around that time.
Additionally, NECA apparently still holds the rights to a few non-Godzilla classic TOHO kaiju. It's likely that these figures are just other incarnations of Morhra and Rodan, but we'll have to wait and see if any figures come out of it.
And lastly, Randy shared that he would love to make a Mechagodzilla figure eventually. Although, this was just him talking personally, not representing the company. So don't necessarily expect to see a NECA Mechagodzilla anytime soon.
That's all of the new information that was revealed during the interview. If more news related to a hiatus, new figures, or anything else from NECA does arise in the future, then Scifed will keep you updated.
