In a mildly unsettling move, it appears Warner Brothers are toying with the idea of shifting Godzilla vs. Kong's release date. The fourth Monsterverse installment and sequel to Mike Dougherty's Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters is currently slated to hit theaters March 13th 2020, but a recent statement by Warner Bros. Studio Chairman Toby Emmerich suggests the studio is eyeing a later release date than originally planned.
As far as franchise fatigue with Legendary’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters tanking, Emmerich said that next year’s monster movie Godzilla vs. Kong “will deliver for fans in the way they were looking for” in the latest Godzilla. “It might come out later in the year, so we can deliver an A+ movie” said Emmerich.
Not only that, reshoots are also rumored to be taking place as well... with less than a year to go before the originally projected release date, scheduling reshoots and delaying the theatrical debut do bring up mild concerns and we're a bit worried.
As we learn more about Godzilla vs. Kong's potential reshoots and new release date, we'll be sure to keep you posted!

Why??? I hate the sound of this so much... Hopefully these reshoots don't turn out bad like they do for almoest every other movie. If they push it back they need to release in in the august-october time frame when not much else big comes out.
Re-shoots are not a good sign. Yeah, there are cases when it has made a movie better. But in many cases the result is worse. Sounds like the studio is panicking and demanding changes to the movie. But studio interference has a long history of making a movie even more terrible.
re shoots happen all the time, So I'm not really worried about that. Monsterverse films constantly having to run from the competition should tell you something.
Any studio should want their movies to be released around less competition. That's just how it works, they made a mistake with KOTM. A movie will make more money the less competition it has, that tells you nothing about the monterverse but that they are taking it more seriously.
This is a bad move if it happens. Higher ups getting involved and moving out of March is all bad news. When stuff like this happens is when you get movies like Justice League, Alien 3 and The Predator.
I’m scared they are going to change it to make the critics and general audience happy. While that would be a smart move money wise, I hope they won’t take away what made the fans love the monsterverse.
Where did reshoots come from? Legendary and WB never said anything about re-shoots, they just talked about pushing the film back.
And the movie was already pushed up to avoid competition with Fast and Furious 9, so if they push it back, they would be going back to it's original production time. If they push it back though it needs to be released in August or September to avoid major competition, and this would give them a couple of months to polish things.
But yeah, this is all unconfirmed, they are just thinking about it, and re-shoots have not even been brought up yet, so it isn't a big deal yet.
March used to be a pretty good slot, but then a lot more competition started coming out around this period.
Given how the amount of competition may have been a factor in the box office shortcomings of its predecessor, I suspect that this shift may be because of what transpired for that film.
I don't think the re-shoots thing is true. But the switching dates are. August is the perfect month to place it as there is virtually no competition at all, just a bunch of indie films and less-known films with no nerd culture element at all. March was once filled with no competition, but with Mulan, Pixar's Onward, A Quiet Place 2 and a bunch more films flooding the March date, it's quickly becoming a death zone for GvK so I'm glad they switch the date. This will also give them more time to polish CG and VFX stuff. If they chose August which I hope they would, it would give GvK big box office money with long legs, of course, good marketing and word of mouth will boost it further especially this film will attract more normies than KOTM thanks to the two BIG names pitting each other in the big screen since the 60's.
