GODZILLA HIMSELF

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 2:03 AM

Ive heard some on the site such as KYERO( i do admit that he tends to make good arguments in various topics, i just disagree on this one)  state that godzilla can't take a nuke and give big long explaenations as to why. However, the idea that godzilla cannot survive a nuke is simply false. for example. in Godzilla Kingdom of monsters he gets nuked point blank, doesn't even have a scratch, and actually gets stronger by gaining his atomic breath from the nuke! in the films godzilla has survived far worse a nuke. example a- he swam through magma and was dropped into a volcano. example b- the black hole gun. first of all wether or not it hit him directly the second time is arguable, second, many say that he survived only because it was a small black hole, however that is a silly notion. a singularity is a singularity no matter what, what they basically did was shrink the event horizon, in effect focusing the black hole so as to avoid collateral damage. example c- the asteroid, godzilla got hit by and asteroid and was fine, an asteroid! of course godzillas toughness has varied over the years, could the showa godzilla take a nuke? maybe, maybe not, but most other incarnations surely can in light of this evidence. in any case it may not make much sence that godzilla could survive all this, but why does it have to? godzilla is pure fiction, he doesn't really follow the rules of the universe, if he did, there wouldn't really be any good godzilla movies now would there?

Don't listen to anything Kyero says, he talks like he knows everything when he has loads of misinformation. Godzilla has never been killed by a nuke, ever. It's the very thing that created him, why would it kill him.

The one time Godzilla was actually hit by a nuke in an attempt  to kill him was in the IDW comics, and not only did he brush it off, it's what gave him his atomic breath in the canon.

I completely agree with you. Honestly, Godzilla was created by a nuke so how could a nuke kill him? It doesn't really make sense in my opinion. That is like trying to kill Superman with his own heat vision. A nuke would do nothing but make Godzilla much stronger and powerful. This is just my opinion, others disagree with us and say that a nuke CAN kill Godzilla but I personally don't believe in that.

Godzilla was mutated by the radiation from a nuke. The explosion and sheer power from it is completely different. The temperature at the epicenter of a nuke is much higher than that of magma so him swimming through magma doesn't really add to the argument.

I personally don't consider the comics cannon so the things he does in them doesn't matter much to me.  A black hole brings things into it or possibly it just hits with the sheer force of the gravity it pulled in, either way completely different than an explosion, and judging by the fact that even Meganula survives the first shot I really doubt it's true power. As for the asteroid Godzilla was never hit by it he blew it up when it was still far above him hence why monster X who was inside it levitated down afterwards, had he been hit by it the monster would have been right in his face, so once again not really comparable.

it's possible the showa godzilla minus 54 godzilla could be injured by a nuke but the heisei and millenium definatly not, the the godzilla of both series destroyed nuclear submarines and feed on nuclear reactors, in godzilla vs king ghidorah, godzilla destoryed shindo's nuclear powered submarine which also had nuclear weapons, and also if godzilla could be killed by a nuke, then how does he have more power than a nuke. also durp the he was in the epicentre of the monster x metorite, if you did watch the movie you could see that godzilla was in the centre of a large crater. godzilla is the living embodiment ofnuclear weapons, if he could be killed by nukes then that would take that sybolism.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-26-2014 5:54 AM

Did you watch it? Because it clearly shows his beam going past the clouds before it hits the meteorite. The crater was not made by meteor impact. Godzilla embodys the sheer destruction of nuclear weapons to be killed by a nuke doesn't take that away at all, he still represents it if anything it backs it up as the only thing that can beat him is something that has just as much destructive power, with the only thing being a nuke.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 6:09 AM

explain to me what the crater was then, he sawm in magma in godzilla vs mothra 1992 and your explanation is that a nuke can be destoryed by a nuke.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 6:19 AM

also in godzilla vs king ghidorah, king ghidorah was exposed to the full force of a nuclear bomb(in that movie there was a nuclear bomb test on lagos) and he was created and was defeated by godzilla who (according to you) was only exposed to nuclear radiation.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-26-2014 6:57 AM

As I said a nuke is hotter than magma. So once again doesn't matter if he swam through it.

The crater was created by godzilla. As he used his beam the energy backed up since it was overloading into the meteor and thus the excess energy caused the explosion not the meteor. As I said if it was the meteor Monster X would have been right on his instead of levitating down from the sky afterward.

To say full force is completely false as 1. you never saw the bomb go off you don't know where the dorats were in comparison, and 2. lagos is a fictional island so once again its general size is unknown. The nuke could have gone off miles away. 3 The nuclear bombs that are used now relative to the ones at that time outclass them by an extreme amount. Even if Ghidorah or Godzilla could stand 1 from 1954 the difference in the power todays nukes have is on a vastly different level.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 9:01 AM

yeah and the heisei godzilla was made from modern nuclear weapons, what caused the crater if he wasn't caught in a nuke sized explosion and are you really trying to use logic on godzilla.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-26-2014 9:44 AM

Godzilla was radiated in the 1970s by a Russian sub, he just absorbed more radiation in 1992 when Ghidorah took place once again didn't get subjected to a nuclear blast in 1992 just radiated by that, totally different. Blast doesn't equal radiation given off by it, a blast inludes the heat and kinetic energy radiation does not. And yes when debating about something that isn't known I will use logic to find the basic idea of what I believe which includes Godzilla. I hate when people can't prove a point so they throw out logic in an attempt to possibly justify their answer.

All I have to say is this:

I watched a documentary about Godzilla. One made by the Japanese creators of the character themselves. In fact I saw it on youtube(I forgot which video it was exactly, If I remember I'll link it here).

The people who CREATED Godzilla took a long moment to explain how they came up with the design and characteristics of the monster. They SPECIFICALLY SAID, "Modern technology does not affect Godzilla". Except the oxygen destroyer which in their case, was not considered modern weaponry because it was a fantasy weapon. So what was modern technology at the time? Missles, tanks, jets, electricity, and maybe even a nuke.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 10:00 AM

that sub in GvsKG had nuclear weapons in it, they planned to use (what they thought was) the godzillasaurus, instead godzilla destoryed the submarine and obviously detonated the nukes onbord, also untill there is a movie where he gets hit by a nuke there is no definate answer, also i'm pretty sure it might hurt him if he was from a distance, becuase of his regenerative powers he willl heal from the burns and the shockwave won't really effect him becuase of his weight.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 10:06 AM

i agree with akio, the oxygen destoryer is more than just a man made weapon it is far worse than anything, and really it is a result of experimenting with the forces of nature in this case messing with the powers of oxygen.

godzillafan1995

also mechagodzilla 2 and mogera used plamsa weaponry, artifical plasma can reach tempretures hotter than the surface of the sun.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-26-2014 10:38 AM

As can the centers of nuclear exposions. Just to be clear nuclear explosions cause absolute destruction on almost a 2 mile radius of the detonation zone so are you telling me Godzilla could be at the center of that with eveything in the vicinity getting completely annilated and he would be fine? No We've seen things like biollante's vines, mechagodzilla's anchors, and Destroyahs horn pierce his skin so he's not completely invulnerable. If things like a metal anchor can pierce through it and get all the way to his inner brain which I'm assuming is fairly deep  then I'm sure 150,000,000 degrees fahernheit would melt him. i love Godzilla and from a point it's fun to think he'd survive that, but as I said the power nuclear weapons have right now is ridiculous, and if you really wanna debate this you have to look at facts. Matter can't exist at the temperature.

godzillafan1995

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-26-2014 10:50 AM

what about the plasma weapons, also they made the last kaiju in pacific rim survive a nuke blast and still had a whole body, also im sure super high tempreture of the fireball of the explosion only happens for a short amont of time and the radiation is emmited first, the heat emmited by the blast is signifcantly lower than the fireball's. the hiroshima bomb would've had a fireball hotter than the suface of the sun but it would only last for a short time, some victims were able to suvive the bomb with scars and burns.

Try to kill godzilla with nukes its like try to kill mario with those green mushroms.

Durp004

MemberBaragonJan-26-2014 11:09 AM

Yes they were able to survive from miles away, granted there were a few survivors closer to the epicenter but they were in the heavily enforced building made to survive the earthquakes japan faced and once again that was in 1945 nukes have gotten much stronger since then. So Godzilla being at the middle of a nuclear explosion now is not anything close to people who survived the one from almost 70 years ago miles away. The pacific rim kaiju survived the nuke, then got killed when they used their nuclear exhaust to burn a hole through its body. That is what you refer to as plot convenience. The short amount of time is long enough to destroy anything it comes in direct contact.

THANK YOU, Godzilla Himself, it's about time someone pointed out the flaws in Kyero's "logic." I was planning on starting my own topic about it, but now I don't have to. What he, and now DURPOO4 here, seem to be ignoring is that Godzilla is a fictional character who doesn't follow any kind of realistic logic, and there are plenty of fictional characters that have survived nukes, for example, the Hulk, Slattern, Superman, and, oh yeah, GODZILLA (seriously, the IDW comics are officially endorsed by Toho, so they do count as an official incarnation of Godzilla). The thing that really annoys me is that Kyero loves to claim that is somehow a "fact" that a nuke would vaporize Godzilla, even though there is absolutely no evidence that it would even harm him. In fact there is quite a bit of hard proof that at least some incarnations could survive a nuke aside from the IDW Godzilla actually surviving one, as several movies have had had him surviving explosions as or more powerful than H-bombs:

-In Final Wars, although the meteor doesn't actually hit him, the shockwave from its explosion was still powerful enough when it reached the ground to leave a massive crater, which Godzilla was at the center of, completely unharmed. Now, I'm not going to try and calculate the exact power of the explosion based on the size of the crater, but I can say that, judging by the size of the crater left by the 15Mt Catle Bravo test, the force of the shockwave that hit Godzilla was definitely equivalent to multiple megatons of TNT, making it more powerful than most nukes. And before you point out how it didn't knock down the buildings around the crater, you should remember that, in movies, explosions don't effect anything outside of the fireball/immediate area, no matter how big they are, unless they are caused by nukes.

-In Godzilla vs Megaguirus, although I'm pretty sure he wasn't actually sucked into the black hole, he was still at ground zero when it evaporated in an explosion that left an absolutly-frickin'-GIGANTIC crater, so big that I'm not even going to try to figure out the size of the explosion. Now, while it's not clear whether the reason for it taking so long for him to show up again afterwards was because he was so badly injured that it took several days to heal or because he was buried deep underground by it, he still did survive it either way.

-In Godzilla vs Destoroyah, both Godzilla and Godzilla Jr. survived the massive nuclear explosion caused by the unstable uranium deposits or whatever it was, which was so powerful that it completely wiped Birth Island, which is not a small island, off the map. To give some context, when Krakatoa erupted in an approximately 150 Mt explosion, 3 times the size of the largest nuclear bomb ever, it wiped out about two thirds of its island, which, from what little information I could gather in the last few minutes, is not a very large island. This means that the explosion of Birth Island was probably equal to several hundred megatons of TNT, and yet did not kill even a juvenile Godzilla.

So, there you have it, if we're going to be throwing around "facts" about these completely illogical films, it is a fact that at least some incarnations of Godzilla could survive a nuke. Whether the rest could is a matter of opinion, and due to the fact that Godzilla has always been meant to be an unstoppable force and, as Akio123 said, the creators of the original film themselves actually said that "modern technology does not affect Godzilla," it is my OPINION that every incarnation of Godzilla could survive a nuke, except for the late Showa Godzilla (which I do count as separate in terms of powers from Godzilla in the earlier Showa films, since he seemed to become much less powerful and indestructible once he became a children's hero). There is really no logic that I can think of that would indicate that he cannot.

Kyero logic.

Either way, we forget technically Heisei Godzilla blew up a submarine carrying nuclear weapons. That is pretty close to being nuked.
