The title says it all.
I'm low on money right now (I'm sixteen- I don't yet have a job and I don't have much left from what I've managed to earn), but when I get a little more I was planning on getting at least one of the movies until I can afford another. That said, I want to know which one you guys think would be the best one for me to get right now, because it might be awhile before I can get another.
Thanks for reading!
(Edit: I don't own any of the movies. Sadly. AND, I've seen a lot of them but not in a really long time, so you don't have to base your answers on whether or not I've seen them or own them, just which one(s) you think I should get).

Do you already have any of them?

No. That's why I'm trying to get them. :( I've seen a lot of them, though.

I would have to agree with. Junkerde, the original Blu-Ray and Biollante Blu-Ray. You should be able to get both pretty.

Heres the one I think you NEED to see before the new film.
1.Gojira 1954
2.Godzilla vs Mothra 1964
3.Godzilla vs King Ghidorah 1991
4.Godzilla 2000
5.Godzilla againts Mecha Godzilla 2002.

All thses are avilable on DVD a fair price.

So everyone agrees on the first movie. That's probably what I'll aim for then. I've currently got Godzilla: King of the Monsters on Amazon Prime so I'll try to watch it on there even if I can't buy the film right this instant.

Does Amazon Prime have the original Gojira? Because it's simply put, and obviously, a much better version than the Americanized Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
But if you're not going to get one for awhile, also go with what seems fun. Who are some of your favorite monsters? What kind of things do you look for in movies?
Also May 6th has a plethora of films coming out. The wait is long, but might be worth it. Especially since Sony's Bluray are double features/discs.

IT DIDN'T BEFORE, BUT IT DOES NOW. YAY!!!! XD
I'll watch Gojira, then. Last time I checked you had to pay to rent it almost as much as you had to pay to buy it. Like I said, it's free now, though.
And thanks for the advice! Yeah, it might be worth it, so I look into it come May 6th.

Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero and Godzilla Raids Again are also free at the time.

Obvious by my profile picture, but I borderline worship Monster Zero.

If you want Biollante here is a link to Amazon's listing of it.
If you want the original here is the link to Amazon's listing. It is more expensive, it is the Criterion version, but it is definitely worth it.

@Gman
Ah, so it's a good movie then. I'll be sure to watch it as well.

Depends if you're going serious tone or lighthearted fun
serious- Biollante
pure fun- Monster Zero

@Dinozilla
I would easily put Monster Zero in the top 3 Godzilla films. The thing is it's not a great movie for it's monster action, but because of the characters, acting, the sci-fi pulp novelty, the combination of genres...etc... It's not heavy on monster action, but when there is action it's some of the series best. Meanwhile, Glenn is badass.

@Gman
Well, surprisingly I'm not sure if I ever saw that one.... if I did I was too young to remember it. It sounds like a good movie though, so I definitely want to see it now.
Have you reviewed any Godzilla movies? You sound like a good reviewer and I'd be interested in reading your opinions on the films.
Also, you said you'd put it in the top 3 Godzilla movies, so just curious, but what are the other two?

@Dinozilla
Thanks. I used to review movies what seems like a lifetime ago. I did reviews for new movies on fandom.com (no longer exists) and wrote Godzilla reviews for Gojistomp.org. (Also... no longer a thing...) I write personal reviews for blog purposes, but haven't done anything like Fandom.com in a long time.
While they're not really reviews, I throw out a lot of opinions on similar subjects in my Scified column: We All Wear Suits - Japanese Sci-Fi & Fantasy I might post some reviews, but we'll see. I feel like I've reviewed a lot of these movies to death and am more interested in writing about their relevance in cinema.
As for the top three... I think the most highly thought of, and best representations of the Godzilla series' and its craft, go under a 1-2-3 punch of Godzilla (1954), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) and Monster Zero (1965). All were directed by Ishiro Honda, all were very different movies, all carried some of the best traits of the series. After these movies it becomes fuzzy. I typically point to the 1960s as the best era, but you can find gems in the 1970s, despite its reputation, the 1980s were great and one or two Millennium films are truly outstanding.
That isn't to say I don't enjoy all of them. I really like every movie for different reasons and although I'm fairly confident in those top three representing the best of the series, as they say... different strokes for different folks.

Okay, well, I'll be sure to keep checking your Scified site.
And thanks for the info. Now I know what Godzilla films I should try to see as soon as possible. (Even though.... well, I want to see all of them again as soon as possibe, haha).

Either the original Gojira or Godzilla vs. mothra (1964).
"Daddy's home- cake every night,"

Personal favorites:
-Gojira
-King Kong vs Godzilla (The Japanese version of course. I love the original score for Godzilla in Japanese version)
-Destroy All Monsters (a classic)
-Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) and Terror of Mechagodzilla (The second is better, but it is a better to give a try one with its sequel)
-Godzilla vs Biollante
-Godzilla vs King Ghidorah
-Godzilla vs Space Godzilla (features my favorite villain)
-Godzilla 2000
-Godzilla: Final Wars (It has very bad reviews due the exaggerated effects and the rush in the plot; but it is bad only if it is taken too seriously. If you watch it in the proper point of view you can have some fun. It was the first Godzilla film that made laugh like a madman the first time I watched the kaiju fighting sequences; the best part is when Godzilla confronts Anguirus, Rodan and King Caesar. When King Caesar gets angry just before the end of the battle is priceless. Do someone have a gift of this?)

My favorites:
Gojira (1954) or Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956)
Mothra Vs. Godzilla (1964)
Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002)
Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla II (1993)
GMK (2001) - for how Godzilla is portrayed; probably the most evil version.
Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1965) - the series took a turn for the worse with this movie, but had it been played seriously, would have been my second or third favorite ever.
Hope this helps!
