Hello everyone! I'm here with what could be bad news.
According to Daily Mail UK, viewers of last night's Asian Godzilla trailer did not quite have the desired reaction.
No, viewers in Japan instead said they liked the way Godzilla looks, but that he's a bit on the chubby side.
You can read the full article here, but if you don't have time, here's a piece of it:
"He is also described as 'pudgy and cute' and 'out of shape' with either 'no neck' or one like an American Football athlete's."
Not so sure this is a good reaction. Could this mean that audiences might LAUGH at Godzilla?
I would be pleased to hear your opinions!

I feel like there's been more chubby Godzillas over the years then skinny ones lol I think with Godzilla being 350ft tall his stocky figure makes sense. Plus we've seen what a very skinny Godzilla would like (Zilla 98) and it didn't work.

Hes all muscle not fat! Who ever said he's cute and pugy don't know **** about godzilla !

Hes all muscle not fat! Who ever said he's cute and pugy don't know **** about godzilla !

Well, the pudgy comments make sense considering he's American now.

Guys, some of you need to grow a sense of humor and not worry/be so sensitive to those who make light of anything about this movie. I thought the reactions were sort of funny. And I doubt one article detailing the reactions of people poking fun at the design are representative of how everyone sees the new Godzilla.
As for the new design, yes it is rather fat looking. But why should that be such a bad thing? Stocky Godzillas have been engrained in the design of the monster since King Kong vs. Godzilla. We've had plenty of rounder and stockier Godzillas since then: Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II, Godzilla vs. Destroyah, GMK...etc... It takes some design ques from those larger, rounder Godzillas and uses them to create something inherently Godzila.
This is hardly something to get worked up over and it certainly wont hurt box office prospects. Most of the fun that they're poking at the design isn't even that offensive. It's all in jest. Laugh with it and move on. Yeeeesh. Some fans are just way over sensitive.

@Gman
If I came off as sensitive or anything, that was not my intention. I did find the reactions a bit funny.
The only reason it even slightly bothered my is because if everyone started saying that and the opinion spread all around, well, it's just that I sort of thought that this version of Godzilla was supposed to make you feel afraid of him. Not laugh at him because you think he's "pudgy and cute".
I also will admit that yes, he is a bit fat. (Even though I myself believe its muscle, not fat). And that isn't a bad thing to me. Like I said, I just don't want everyone always laughing at him instead of seeing him the way he was meant to be seen.
Maybe I did take it too seriously, and the reactions are a bit funny. I don't think they will hurt the box office prospects, like I said, I just hoped for a more.... serious approach from audiences at the new Godzilla. But anyway, it's no big deal.

@Dinozilla
My comment wasn't specifically directed at you. But the general negative reaction to the harmless pokes at the new design here were scalding on a level that it didn't need to be. One of the members above said, "F*** them!" and I don't think that's an appropriate reaction to something so harmless.
As for audiences, I think enough will take it seriously within the context of the movie. But like most feature-creatures the idea that people were going to be "afraid" of Godzilla or what not was a pipe dream.
So some people don't think the new design is all that menacing? Big deal. Plenty of other designs aren't, but still work in the context of their movies. I like the design myself, apart from some minor qualms, but nothing sticks out that's more or less menacing or "serious" than any other Godzilla. I think that's a good thing though. It speaks to his legacy.
Let people poke fun at it if they want. God knows I do at several designs.

They like sumo wrestling over there. You'd think they'd like the thunder thighs.

Don't all Godzillas look pudgy and cute? :)
"Daddy's home- cake every night,"

Hey everyone. Please don't misunderstand! I'm japanese and love the new design of Godzilla.
Japanese people on 2ch are usually very nerdy and stupid. Also my friends are really looking forward to the movie. So no worries. Most of Japanese people will take it seriously.

Yeah guys, don't say the Japanese are mean for saying those things. It's like if people said all Americans hate the original Godzilla films.
"Daddy's home- cake every night,"

you what's pudgy but still badass? Bulldogs.
You know what's considered cute and yet still kills people? Polar bears. And hippos.

I personally quite like the fact they think of the new Godzilla as "pudgy and cute."
"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Have the Japanese had their Godzilla look in the mirror lately?

Yes. The heisei godilla looks really fat as much as i love it. Get used to it. As much as the 2014 look is supposed to be muscula, there really are pudgy and cute traits in it. No need to go friggin boo ****ing hoo about it. Because when g is put into the context of the movie it will all come together

GMAN is right as usual.
No need to get all hot and bothered by this. Its the reaction of one group of internet users, not representative of every Godzilla fan. Furthermore, the Daily Mail is hardly what I call a credible and respected source of news.

bad as I hate to say it, I agree with the japanese fans. At least with their version of G only his legs and hips are fat but gareths G from the neck down is just huge like he's bloated or something. Still love the design just wish they would have slimmed his chest and belly up a bit but oh well maybe if we are blessed enough to have a sequel they will tweek the design a bit.
