wow lots of people are very bias against Disney...

Though I do agree, they'd probably ruin it.

I'd probably have to kill myself along with every other living thing on this planet if that happened, but I can think of OTHER organizations I'd never, EVER hand the rights of Godzilla to, like religous institutions, prisons, etc. As far as companies, believe me, there is worse out there than Disney... at least they'd make an 1/10000000th of heart attempt to make a good movie (not necessarily a good Godzilla movie, but an entertaining movie), unlike even worse companies...

If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

DC.

I don't think DC is necessarily worse than Disney, and even then there are FAR worse companies to get the rights to Godzilla, like say Walmart somehow got their hands on the Godzilla rights. We'd either be pumped full of straight to DVD, crappy movies, or Godzilla would never see the light of day again. In otherwords, he'd become Dinocroc or Supergator or Mega Shark.

If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

Uh, I can think of quite a few studios that would be a worse fit for Godzilla.

Love them or hate them, Disney makes sure their properties are viable and somehow finds a way to put filmmakers behind the camera who know what their doing. (Sorry Star Wars fans, I like most of the new movies. Except Solo...)

That said, are they a great fit? No, probably not. And I absolutely agree Disney is becoming way too large, and is far too powerful, but this nonsense that they would "destroy Godzilla" and fans might kill themselves? Good grief, people. At minimum Disney would probably find a way to make it more profitable than Legendary is.

That said, I don't think Disney would touch Godzilla with a 10 foot pole.

G.H. (Gman)

Hyperbole, good sir. Hyperbole.

Still, you must admit that Disney would probably be a horrible fit for Godzilla, and we might end up with Godzilla V.S. Megalon... but Disney. All the meaning behind Godzilla would be lost for a big, dumb giant monster. Say what you will with Legendary, but at least you CAN interpret the message of even KOTM in multiple different ways, or at least claim there IS a message not just regarding the environment. A DISNEY Godzilla would probably have absolutely no message. It would probably be more widely loved by the mainstream audience and gain more profits, yes, but at what cost? If the mainstream only likes Godzilla for simply being Disney, and it ends up a meaningless, Disney, goody two shoes version of Godzilla, would they even be fans of Godzilla at all? I mean, almost none of them would watch the original, or any of the MEANINGFUL movies. It would sacrifice what truly makes Godzilla great... so Disney can make a quick buck. Say what you will about the Monsterverse, but at least they gave DEPTH to Kong and you CAN take messages out from 2014 and KOTM. If... probably WHEN Disney gets a hold of Godzilla... it won't be Godzilla anymore. I mean, you act like it's impossible for the franchise to be destroyed, but that way of thinking is wrong. There are movies that, if produced, would probably mean the end of Godzilla movies being produced. Remember the script of "Bride Of Godzilla?" Disney very well has the power to do something equally as damaging, if not greater. Imagine a Godzilla running around with a little baby that's doing "adorable hijinks" with humans while fights the big, scary monster. Then, when he wins, he looks at the camera with an odd expression and goes into the ocean. Sure, that is somewhat of an exaggeration on my part, but that basic template is probably what Disney would follow for Godzilla movies, and actually what they seem to follow for a lot of animal movies. Though, I do must reiterate Disney COULD actually make profitable, and perhaps GOOD Godzilla movies, and that there are FAR worse companies to take the franchise.

If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

"Say what you will with Legendary, but at least you CAN interpret the message of even KOTM in multiple different ways, or at least claim there IS a message not just regarding the environment...you CAN take messages out from 2014 and KOTM."

That's actually gonna be the subject of my next big pseudo-essay around these parts.

TheLazyFish,
I think you're cutting Disney short. Way, way short.

Why does everyone assume Disney only kiddies up things? Disney was also responsible for movies like Armageddon, Unbreakable, Lincoln, Ransom, Signs, Dead Poets Society, King Arthur, Con Air, The Rock and distributed movies like Snake Eyes, and Starship Troopers.

In addition to, at minimum, five of those titles being R rated, most are adult themed movies and some are even Oscar bait with strong thematic elements.

Even the movies with Disney's label directly in the title have had plenty of strong meaning and elements. Love or hate Last Jedi, but it was clearly about moving forward and letting go of former, strangling ideals that hold back people. Captain America: Winter Soldier is a look at how conflict has changed with time and while war was black and white in the 1930s/1940s, it's a grey area today.

So why is it Disney wouldn't have a message? Because that's largely the job of the filmmakers, of which they have plenty of proven talent in that department.

"Imagine a Godzilla running around with a little baby that's doing "adorable hijinks" with humans while fights the big, scary monster. Then, when he wins, he looks at the camera with an odd expression and goes into the ocean."

It was called Final Wars. Godzilla survived that too.

No. Just no. They would absolutely destroy Godzilla and then insult then fans when they complain about it. Plus, the mouse has already consumed so much of the movie industry, and i don’t want anyone else to feed him.

As long as they got the right people behind it, I would be alright with it. Plus I don't think Disney even has any interest in buying the Godzilla License. They have so many franchises under their belt, Marvel and Star Wars probably being their biggest. So why would they buy Godzilla if they have those? I honestly love the way Godzilla's being treated right now. And if Disney does end up buying Godzilla, and they absolutely get his meaning wrong, It won't matter, Because Godzilla will always have a true meaning. The only way Godzilla's meaning would be killed is if we saw a horrible idea and just went along with it. Like if they change Godzilla into a scientist that accidentally transformed himself into a giant lizard and goes on silly adventures, and we, the fans, said that is a great idea and that's the new Godzilla, then Godzilla's real meaning would be dead. But thankfully, he does have a meaning, and that meaning has been consistent throughout his entire franchise. He is the embodiment of nuclear holocaust, a protector of earth, a destroyer of worlds, etc. That has and always will be his meaning. People know what Godzilla is and what he represents now. So no matter what, Godzilla will always be Godzilla, Because we're there to make sure he's understood. But if Disney ever did buy Godzilla, I'd be alright with it as long as they understand what he means and they get the right people to do him right.
