Today marks the 17th Anniversary of Godzilla x MechaGodzilla and yesterday was the 16th Anniversary of Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. Masaaki Tezuka's Kiryu Saga has become beloved by fans.

I actually just recently purchased the DVD for Godzilla: Tokyo SOS. It was alright. I didn't like it as much as I did Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, but I thought it was okay.
And KiryuGoji is probably my favorite of the classic suitmation designs. I like how they took the basic Godzilla 2000 look and then gave it the classic color scheme.

The debate over which film is better has never ceased. I think the grand majority like the first one more, although there are aspects about the second that I tend to lean into more. (Despite the fact it's pretty much a remake of Mothra vs. Godzilla--Only this time MechaGodzilla's the McGuffin.)
The Godzilla suit is yet another example of that fans look back on fondly, but was criticized heavily at the time. The Gonzo comparisons were a thing...

Happy birthday Kiryu!
If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

I've always preferred Godzilla against Mechagodzilla over Tokyo S.O.S.

Kiryu is my favorite Mechagodzilla.
Zwei Wing is the best singing duo. Change my mind.

Gmkgoji Same. He's also the one with the best justification for being built in Godzilla's image, that being that he is partially the 1954 Godzilla. It makes him more interesting than the Godzilla-shaped weapons platforms that the others were.

G. H. (Gman) As somebody who actually owns the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla 2002 figure, I can safely say that I am a bit put off by the slight downward-angle of the skull going towards the front.

JurassicKaiju14,
Yeah that was the big complaint over 17 years ago. It didn't help that one of the first two images of the suit was extremely unflattering. The suit also got crap for essentially just being the Mire/GiraGoji body with new spines, a new head and the classic color scheme. "Lazy" was thrown around a lot.
I always felt the suit was a proportional improvement.
