It'd be a lot more boring. We'd also probably have gotten a lot fewer movies.
The Showa films are, by-and-large, fantastic as is.

Godzilla would not be a good guy and it would not be geared to kids. So that mean Minilla, Gabara and other kid friendly Kaiju would not exist.

A Godzilla 1954 remake in 2024 will be good for Godzilla's 70th anniversary. If this remake would be a succes they can remake the sequel Godzilla Raids Again. Also they can remake all showa Godzilla movies with a serious style like 1954 and 1955.

I would like that. Give a Godzilla movie meaning, and not just as a cash grab please.

@Gman
Yeah, Godzilla would have probably gone out of sales and much of the fan base would not exist

I'm in agreeance with Gman, the Showa series was perfect the way it is.

SarcasticGoji,
How does King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Monster Zero, All Monsters Attack, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Terror of MechaGodzilla and others lack meaning though?

Opinion to me. Doesn’t seem to be as deep as the original. No offense intended. It’s just my opinion.

Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there.

Every movie has some message, it’s just I don’t think that the messages of those movies are as relevant (at the time) or as deep as Gojira

Plus All Monsters Attack was just too childish for me. Plus it has Gabara

I think gabara could be a good kaiju if used correctly actually.

the way I see it, without the goofy Showa series beyond the 1954 original and Godzilla Raids Again, we wouldn't have gotten Ultra series or the Heisei Godzilla series and beyond. Even the MonsterVerse is heavily based on Showa Godzilla lore with Heisei Gamera mixed in for good measure

I know, I just like things like Gojira and Shin Godzilla better

Ironically, All Monsters Attack has some of the most relevant Japanese themes of the whole series.
There's lots of cases in this film that are influenced by the current events going on in Japan at the time. For example, the whole point of Testsuo's Lady Alarm in Monster Zero is it was drawing attention to the violent murders and rape crimes in the Tokyo area during the early-to-mid 60s. The idea of aliens invading or ravaging our planet is in correlation with these events and the world is essentially saved by an electronic rape whistle. This goes even further when you consider the sexual symbolism that has been attributed to most space sci-fi.
The entire series is riddled with these kinds of touches.

I personally don’t see those in the films, so my preference is original. I mean, It needs a super powerful message and that could have been a great message in another film. Godzilla was just sort of shoved in. Basically I prefer Godzilla as a villain or as a force of nature. Not raising the Minya. I like all Godzilla films, but that’s just not what I want. I just think that those films are not as deep as others, but anything can be deep, depending on how far you reach into it.

Indeed, but consider the filmmakers in question. Do you really think the director of the original film wasn't pushing his own agenda in each movie regardless of the story? For example, Mothra vs. Godzilla is a capitalist warning fable. Monster Zero is a Cold War commentary and a fantasy for the success of universal unison. All Monsters Attack is about the deconstruction of the Japanese nuclear family in the middle of an economic crisis that left kids raising themselves while parents worked and crime was at all time high.
Preference is fine, but the powerful messages are no less there. There's a reason the Criterion Collection only wanted the Showa Series and nothing after.

I understand. I just prefer the OG more. But what you have said is very interesting

I'd enjoy a complete remake/remaster. Expand upon lore, expand upon plot twists. Make the enemies look even more threatening. And end with a connection with the Heisei Era to represent Godzilla as evolving.

Godzilla probably would not have learned to fly and Godzilla vs gigan would have more blood and King Kong vs Godzilla Godzilla would’ve won but we don’t even if they will re do a showa series.
