Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, the animated sequel to Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, and second film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, will debut in Japanese theaters this weekend. However, that hasn't stopped Toho from hyping up the third and final installment in Godzilla's animated saga.

Japanese fans have gotten their hands on promotional images announcing the final film's title and release date. The image features three golden, dragon-like necks intertwining with each other. Take a look:

The film translates as Godzilla: Planet Eater. An official English title will likely be different, much in the same way it was for Planet of the Monsters (which was originally translated as "Monster Planet") and City on the Edge of Battle (initially translated as both "Mobile Breeder City" and "The City Mechanized for the Final Battle".) The film will open in Japanese theaters November, 2018.

The back of the advert shows a golden Exif symbol, with the tagline, "Bow down to the golden end." Take a look:

The message is loud and clear: Should King Ghidorah return, this will be his first big screen appearance since 2001's Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. (Keizer Ghidorah in 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars was a different three-headed foe.)  King Ghidorah will then return in 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters by Legendary Pictures--But it looks like Toho is beating them to the punch by four months.

What do you think of the big tease for the third and final anime film? Are you excited about the return of King Ghidorah? Given the radical redesign of MechaGodzilla, how do you think he will turn out? Sound off in the comments below.

The first film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is currently streaming on Netflix

The sequel, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, will hit Japanese theaters this weekend, May 18th, 2018.

Godzilla: Planet Eater, the third and final film in the Godzilla anime trilogy hits Japanese theaters November, 2018.

This just made things even more interesting. I love the title of this new movie, and I'd honestly prefer them not change it too dramatically from Planet Eater.

As a huge Ghidorah fan, I'm always down for an appearance. I'm wondering how this (speculated) anime version will compare to the Monsterverse incarnation!

I don't even want to imagine the size of Anime Ghidorah.

TitanosaurusMember968 XPMay-17-2018 10:32 PM

This new Ghidorah might break the record for biggest kaiju, as well as possibly the heaviest. Can you imagine?

Also, am I the only one that knows about this? I found it on tohokingdom.com, and it says, "We are sad to report that actress Yuriko Hoshi has passed away today. Best known as one of the leads in Mothra vs. Godzilla(1964), The Last War (1961) and many other productions, Hoshi was an exceptional and talented actress who will be missed." Does anyone else know about this, or am I the first?

MinecraftDinoKaiju,
No. It's been reported all day. I'll be reporting on it later.

Looks like King Ghidorah is going to have a golden opportunity in the film (pun not intended)

When originally introduced, King Ghidorah was known as a planet killer. This may be alluding to Ghidorah's original role as a planet destroying super monster. I cannot wait to see what becomes of the third anime film. This is going to be insane!

BaragonMember478 XPMay-18-2018 8:59 AM

Oh yay, another Godzilla movie where they choose Ghidorah as the enemy. That's exactly what I've been waiting for.

You know what would be just as cool? A plan to create an Oxygen Destroyer after Godzilla and King Ghidorah fight each other (if they ever do).

The King of the Monsters

BaragonMember237 XPMay-18-2018 12:58 PM

The Oxygen Destroyer already exists in the anime universe. It was invented by Dr. Serizawa and became an urban legend, believed to be the only weapon capable of killing Godzilla. A group of scientists began experimenting to try and actually recreate the weapon, but stumbled upon microorganisms mutated by the Oxygen Destroyer. The microbes eventually evolved into Destoroyah, which killed all of the scientists and ended the project for good.

TitanosaurusMember729 XPMay-18-2018 1:17 PM

I wonder how King Ghidorah will compare to Godzilla Earth.

Will he be a mere mutation like the other monsters in this continuity, or is he another evolved anomaly like Godzilla himself, seemingly evolved specifically to combat Humanity?

Kulaas

Mothra LarvaeMember32 XPMay-18-2018 1:47 PM

I'd imagine he'd just be an outside invader from space, not a mutation or hyper evolved organism. Don't think it's any coincidence that Metphies spoke on seeing monsters like Godzilla destroy other civilizations during the Exif's time as space vagrants, and this film's marketing has the Exif insignia present on it.

The Jurassic Bootleg

BaragonMember468 XPMay-18-2018 3:02 PM

Plz don't tell me that the Exifs are going to turn out evil, it's pretty refreshing to see aliens being good guys in a Godzilla movie.

riggzamortis86

TitanosaurusMember667 XPMay-18-2018 3:15 PM

The aliens already have alternate motives for trying to save the earth. They kind of spoke of it before in the last movie. They also need a place to live.

The Jurassic Bootleg

BaragonMember468 XPMay-18-2018 3:18 PM

Maybe Ghidorah is Exif's last resort on taking out Godzilla, just speculating.

Tiamatzilla

BaragonMember222 XPMay-18-2018 5:29 PM

I hope Ghidorah survives this and makes it through the Legendary battles in KOTM. Both films need to let the Dragon King make it safely back into outer space. He better keep all three heads as well.

KingKaijuGojira

TitanosaurusMember926 XPMay-18-2018 7:08 PM

Kulaas makes an excellent point. It would make total sense if Ghidorah went from planet to planet, wiping out whole civilizations. It might be possible that King Ghidorah was the kaiju that drove the Exif from their home planet.

MinecraftDinoKaiju

TitanosaurusMember968 XPMay-18-2018 7:32 PM

But if he's the one that might've driven them out, then where do the rumors about an anime SpaceGodzilla fit in all of this? That is, if anyone remembers them.

@G. H. (Gman) It's been two days from the time of this comment. When are you going to publish the article about the news I shared with you earlier in this fourm?
