That was awesome!!!! The best look at the main four in action. And it looks like there will be more monsters! Was that Anguirus coming out of that mountain? Too much hype right now.

Oh no, they say he's got to go!

Go Go Godzilla!

BaragonMember158 XPDec-10-2018 9:43 AM

I think that just single-handedly made up for every disappointing element in the 2014 film.  Awesome

Nothing will ever beat that first trailer for it's pure atmosphere and emotional punch to the gut, but this one was pure adrenaline.  Long live the King

TitanosaurusMember926 XPDec-10-2018 9:51 AM

And those legs coming out of the ground. Kumonga? Something new? Mothra looks beautiful. I love the blue mixed into her wings. I'm not sure from the trailer but it looks like Ghidorah might be a wing walker a little bit in regards to some of his movements. Either way, I'm excited. Long Live the King.

Oh no, there goes Tokyo!

Go Go Godzilla!

TitanosaurusMember926 XPDec-10-2018 10:24 AM

I even found an easter egg. When Godzilla and Ghidorah were confronting each other in Antartica, it was a nod to Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991) when the two monsters confronted each other before fighting.

Mothra LarvaeMember16 XPDec-10-2018 10:37 AM

Looks awesome! There wasn't too much of the story spoiled thankfully, and I can't wait to begin speculating what monster was coming out of the ground!

From a VFX standpoint I don't think Mike quite has the eye and finesse that Gareth had in the first film to make it feel "real", but the action scenes do still look very exciting.

BaragonMember158 XPDec-10-2018 10:48 AM

While we haven't seen the film yet I must respectfully disagree from what we've seen so far.  Gareth's Godzilla was well realized in how it tried to portray things from the "human level" and make the monsters move visually, but it was muddy, dark and I didn't feel like a lot of their action was very compelling, it was just big animals doing what you'd expect big animals to do.

I've rather like Dougherty's style and use of visual effects in the films I have seen from his library, and I think he has the potential to bring a really well crafted, artistic action piece to the big screen that will take full advantage of the visual spectacle these beasts can deliver.  It's a fine balance between "real" and "compelling".

TitanosaurusMember729 XPDec-10-2018 11:31 AM

Also, dear Godzilla, he's a FAST BOI!

TitanosaurusMember934 XPDec-10-2018 12:33 PM

I'm so excited for this movie.

BaragonMember339 XPDec-10-2018 1:34 PM

Joygasm !

BaragonMember158 XPDec-10-2018 4:37 PM

Been through the trailer a bunch now, and it's a glorious piece of advertising, but I have one complaint...take a stiff drink every time that MONARCH dude says "Titan" during the Senate meeting and you'll feel a little buzzed by the end of the trailer ;)

SpaceGodzillaAdmin23330 XPDec-10-2018 4:54 PM

I was blown away. But wow they revealed a LOT...

AnguirusMember1330 XPDec-10-2018 5:59 PM

Looks great!

King Ghidorah forever.

BaragonMember307 XPDec-10-2018 6:02 PM

YES!!!!!!!! Looks awesome. I love how Godzilla fights King Ghidorah at the end. Simply incredible.

BaragonMember307 XPDec-10-2018 6:38 PM

I have heard rumours there will be more than Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra kaijus in the film. The trailer might hint at that. Notice those claws coming out of the ground at one point? Or the moving mountain? Doesn't look like all those kaijus we already know in the film. So could there be more kaijus?

GodzillaMember8212 XPDec-10-2018 7:34 PM

Looking really good!

BaragonMember200 XPDec-10-2018 7:43 PM

2:00-2:01 omg is Godzilla in burning mode. Knock on wood.

GodzillaAdmin5334 XPDec-10-2018 8:09 PM

I tend to agree. The effects aren't quite as polished as the 2014 film, but I don't find it bothersome or distracting. I think shifting the attention to more bonkers visuals is worth sacrificing a little realism. In fact you could say it goes hand-in-hand.

GodzillaMember8212 XPDec-10-2018 8:34 PM

If the story and characters are good, I can easily ignore any visual short comings.

G. H. (Gman)

GodzillaAdmin5334 XPDec-10-2018 8:35 PM

Largely agreed. I feel like we as the general audience tend to do that with a great many blockbusters these days anyway.

GodzillaMember8212 XPDec-10-2018 8:41 PM

G. H. (Gman) We saw two Alien prequel movies with stunning visuals and effects, but the story and characters really polarized fans. I am confident that Godzilla will do it right given its history.

BaragonMember307 XPDec-10-2018 8:45 PM

Let's not jump the gun on the CGI just yet. There are still a few months before it's release, time enoough to perfect the CGI.

G. H. (Gman)

GodzillaAdmin5334 XPDec-10-2018 9:09 PM

Michael Dougherty said the film was "done" November 16th. I suppose they could always go back if they wanted to, but with November 16th being the post-production wrap date, that gave Godzilla: King of the Monsters 14 months of post-production time. That is an incredible amount of time for any movie and quite expensive. (Having worked on various films, time is money.) Avengers 4, for example is only getting 5-6 months. Spider-Man: Far From Home will get 8-9 months, etc.

Also consider footage is typically edited/worked on during a film's shoot--So post-production crew members have actually been cobbling these films together since before their wrap date.

The ultimate point being that post-production is an expensive process and the longer it takes, the more money studios have to shell out. I just have a hard time believing they'll continue to shell out that money after the movie has been worked on for 14 months beyond its wrap date. It's had a shockingly generous amount of post time.

BaragonMember307 XPDec-10-2018 9:22 PM

G. H. (Gman): I just don't think we should be conclusive about the CGI just yet whether it's "finished" or not. Seeing it on the big screen vs the computer screen can provide a big difference, with many details that otherwise can't be seen clearly. So I don't think it's fair to judge the CGI as better or worse just yet.

GodzillaMember8212 XPDec-10-2018 10:45 PM

IDK. If the movie was done shooting mid November (2017?) and has a mid January release- that seems pretty dang reasonable. If they need to do re shoots and lots of CGI after that date, then there could be trouble. It should be fine.

Given the generous timeline, it is really hard to see a focus on CGI will really matter to the average viewer.

G. H. (Gman)

GodzillaAdmin5334 XPDec-10-2018 11:07 PM

It wrapped principle photography September, 2017. A few minor reshoots happened mid-April.

BaragonMember307 XPDec-11-2018 12:00 AM

Well my point is that I think it's too early to say the CGI is less polished as some of you are saying. You need to see the full film first.

TitanosaurusMember567 XPDec-11-2018 12:38 AM

I am very interested in seeing what these new monsters are going to be. You can see some sort of a scorpion kaiju and a kaiju that is literally a mountain (or inside the mountain).

Some people say that these could be classic Toho kaiju like Kumonga and Anguirus/Baragon, but that seems VERY unlikely.

Mothra LarvaeMember22 XPDec-11-2018 1:45 AM

@KaijuWorld judging that there haven't been any other reports of Legendary getting any other rights to Toho monsters, I'm assuming they're not. Most definitely gonna be new monsters.

TitanosaurusMember729 XPDec-11-2018 5:54 AM

^I agree. The question then remains if these other Titans will have actual fights, or if they're mostly flashback/reference material to give context to the current geopolitical situation during the film.

TitanosaurusMember567 XPDec-11-2018 6:26 AM

I think they will be reference material to show how there are more kaiju/titans appearing around the world. This movie already has 4 kaiju that have taken the spotlight so adding these new kaiju to the plot would make the movie feel a little bit cramped.

I hope that when the movie comes out, we will see these new kaiju appear on the Monarch sciences website with some information about them.

Mothra LarvaeMember55 XPDec-11-2018 7:33 AM

I love how we get a better look at specifically Mothra and King Ghidorah!

BaragonMember339 XPDec-13-2018 8:10 AM

Black Scorpion - an old WB film... speculation mind you... but that could be what's coming out of the ground near the oil rigs. WB could use that and it could work for this movie. As for the mountain swelling up... that to me seems like it could be a TOHO monster that was green lighted but kept secret.

Mothra LarvaeMember12 XPJan-01-2019 9:33 AM

I wonder of Madison will be similar to Miki Saegusa? She seems to have strong connections to both Mothra and Godzilla, not unlike Saegusa…

Mothra LarvaeMember59 XPJan-02-2019 5:35 AM

Great but with Milly in it people are gonna start comparing Godzilla and Stranger Things which are nothing alike. That is the only gripe I have with this but very happy there is another movie coming out especially with Mothra Rodan and even King Ghidorah.

BaragonMember390 XPJan-13-2019 1:51 PM

Godzilla raising his arm at Ghidorah like that though. And Mothra looks fricking menacing. Rodan ma boi he be doin barrel rolls. Adn Ghidorah your wings are hurricanes.

BaragonMember390 XPJan-13-2019 1:54 PM

Smaug- My wings are hurricanes, my claws are spears.

 Ghidorah-Arent you just the cutest.

Deathwing- my wings blackout the sky.

Rodan- let's see you do a fricking barrel roll
