Remember that teaser trailer from 2013 Comic-Con, where a multi-legged Kaiju lay dead amongst a pile of rubble? Most fans referred to the creature as Vishnu, because of the voice overlay the trailer featured. However, the name of this Monster was not "Vishnu", it was in fact more likely Rokmutul. Rokmutul is a name given to one of the Monsters originally created by concept artist Josh Nizzi for Legendary Pictures' and Warner Bros.' Gozilla 2014. During the early stages of development, artists were taxed with the job of creating original Monsters for Godzilla to fight; one needed to have wings and one had to have multiple limbs.

The concept art below are two unused Monster ideas which were originally considered for the film, before Gareth and producers decided on the MUTOs. It's likely the unnamed Kaiju in the first Godzilla 2014 teaer, was a homage to Josh Nizzi's early work.

The first concept Monster was called Rokmutul, and he looked like this:

As you can see, the artwork dates back to 2011, when Godzilla 2014 was still very early in production. The second Kaiju, the one with wings, was called Pterodactyl and this is what that Monster looked like:

A third piece of concept art was also uploaded to Josh's portfolio website and it depicts Godzilla fighting Rokmutul. The Godzilla concept in this piece shows a very Dinosaur-like appearance, unlike the one chosen for the film.

You can view more of Josh Nizzi's work on his official website!

So, what does everyone think of Rokmutul and Pterodactyl? Do you think they would've made good enemies for Godzilla 2014? Or are you glad the film crew decided to go with the MUTO design? Let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section! Special thanks to our friend Alex on Twitter for the find!

Honestly, they look kinda meh. They look like dinosaurs with ekstra limbs and and stuff thrown on them. And when something has more than four legs it really shouldnt be a dinosaur. Its just...Weird. And the names are kinda...Ehh, but then again, it could be worse. I liked the MUTOs, they served their purpose. I will admit i am interested in how they would have looked in the film though.

On a brighter note, now we might have an idea of what Rodan "could(Emphazise on could)" evolve from. And Anguirus, if he ever appears.

I prefer the MUTOs, but I love these designs! Rokmutul looks a bit like Anguirus to me.

Don't like them at all. More distressed with Godzilla in that photo. I see they were going to fall in line with the 98 disaster and assume fans think Godzilla would be "way cooler" if he was agile and more dinosaurian. It's like Michael Myers sprinting after his victims.

I'm not going to lie, I like them. They're pretty cool!

These look pretty badass. They would have probably made very interesting Godzilla enemies if they had been made.

I love the artwork. But I'm way happier with the MUTOs. These two look like Anguiras and Rodan wannabe's. The MUTOs look like nothing before it really, aside from their 'inspirations'. They don't look like copies of anything. And now that TOHO is allowing more of their characters into this universe, it's so much better that they didn't use clones of existing monsters. Would you want to see Rokmutul or would you rather see a Legendary style Anguiras? I know what I want to see.

not bad... not great.. but not bad.

imo.. a new universe of monsters.. a fresh injection of creative ideas .. can only enhance Legendary's Godzilla Francise. AND since TOHO is making a new film.. I say.. let the war for Godzilla's legacy begin. The monsters from older films had thier time.. lets bring fresh meat to the table. MUTOs were just the beginning.. and since Godzilla is an alpha pedator.. there has to be a more creatures from that time frame... other than a moth.. a 3 headed beast.. and a bird.. and a spike tailed armidillo. IMO.

Would have much preferred these monsters to the Mutos. The fact these are only early drawing means the monster would have probably looked much better by the time the movie came out.

These guys looks way better than those Cloverfield wannabes. I still love the MUTOs

Another stuff from the same concept artist

These things are awesome!!!! :D It took a year and a half, but we finally have a better idea what the Mood Piece Monster looked like above the knees!  Good things come to those who wait! :) These kaiju look rediculously cool, and who knows?  Maybe one day they (or a redisigned iteration of them) will make it into a movie!

And is it wrong that the first thing I thought when I saw these guys was "dang, I want toys of those monsters..."? ;)

Honestly, I'm really glad these things got scrapped. They're obvious ripoffs of Rodan and Anguirus. At least the M.U.T.O.s were somewhat original and unique, not generic expys of popular monsters with extra appendages thrown in. Now that Legendary actually has the rights to some classic Toho monsters, we won't have to worry about new monsters that only resemble classic monsters.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-19-2015 6:09 AM

I don't know I like both the M.U.T.O.s and these things
