We've already heard that Legendary and Warner Brothers were interested in negotiating with Toho again following the release of Godzilla vs. Kong next year, which would also coincide with their Toho deal expiring. Previously we heard that Legendary were open to continuing the Monsterverse on if box office numbers deem so, however a recent interview with Legendary CEO Joshua Grode has revealed just how eager the studio is to keep making Godzilla movies.
Speaking to THR, Grode explained that they think the tank is full so to speak - that moviegoers are hungry for more Godzilla:
THR: How far can you extend the Godzilla/Kongmonsterverse movies? How much fuel is in the franchise?
Grode: I hope a lot. I hope the gas tank is full.
Unlike other franchises which see a new film release every year, Godzilla's reign in Hollywood is just getting started. We're thrilled to know Legendary are eager to keep the franchise going and maintain a partnership with Toho. We can only hope enough people flock to the theaters next month to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters and then continue the support with Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.
