MemberMothra LarvaeAug-29-2013 12:00 PMwell i been to the site and no where does it say anything regards to an announcement for composer. i been trying to get confirmation. I checked on IMDb for Alaxendre Desplat and nothing listed him as composer unless there is another Alaxendre Desplat and Legendary Facebook page does not have anything either. if you can find and post the link please do so that says Legendary did announce it.thanks

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-29-2013 12:19 PMIf you look at the list of legendary pictures movies it will have Godzilla (of course). click on it and travel to the synopsis. Below that it will list the crew that helped. at the very end it says "The score is being created by Oscar- Nominated composer Alaxandre Desplat (Argo, The Kings Speech)".

AdminGodzillaAug-29-2013 5:55 PMInteresting choice. Not too surprising, I guess, considering the rest of the crew is practically from the indie world. I'm sure he'll turn in a fine score.

AdminGodzillaAug-30-2013 1:29 AMBefore people get their panties in a bunch about the fact Desplat composed Twilight, lets remember there are plenty of great composers who have composed terrible films:
Hans Zimmer - The Lone Ranger, Broken Arrow, The Holiday...etc...
Brian Tyler - Dragonball: Evolution, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem
John Williams - Star Wars prequels
Jerry Goldsmith - Star Trek V, Small Soldiers, Rambo III
Just because he did Twilight doesn't mean he's a bad composer.

Listening to music off his official site, I'm excited to say that his stuff doesn't sound all similar. As good as John Williams is, since he's done so many movies, his material started to sound the same.
I like Mr. Desplat's Zero Dark Thirty score. It is dark, and I actually like the track he uses on his site. The pulsing and dragging strings, the dark sounding horns. It's not exactly what I would use as Godzilla's theme but it's got a very similar element to what I would like to hear in the movie.

AdminGodzillaAug-30-2013 2:02 PMVery true, but his indie/foreign film credits far outweigh his Oscar/blockbuster credits. Not that this is a bad thing. Edwards comes from the same place, quite literally-- Jumping from the indie world to the blockbuster. So it sounds like the two will really understand one anothers language, which is very important.
I do need to give Mr. Desplat's Zero Dark Thirty score a chance. As it stands I really enjoyed his stuff for The Ides of March and Harry Potter the most. Those are at least the most accessible.
