I watched the original, 1954, Japanese Godzilla with English subtitles last Saturday (10-11-14) with my soul brother, member Indiana Jones. He brought it over for us to watch because I had never seen the original (hold the hate comments). Eventually we got to the point where Doctor Serizawa was given the opportunity to make the decision of whether or not he was going to use the Oxygen Destroyer to kill Godzilla and the rest of the ocean, or let Godzilla and the ocean life live and find a different way to subdue the beast.
Me and Doctor Jones came up with a ‘would you rather’ by basically copying the situation from the movie; “Would you rather use the Oxygen Destroyer to kill Godzilla and save the day, or let the ocean live?”
At first, I found it a difficult decision. Though after a few seconds of thinking, I decided I would NOT use the device and would destroy it. The reason being the obvious effects of the ocean being dead; a missing major food source being the main effect. Not only that, but also a bunch of other things that I don’t really feel like listing. :P
PLEASE. Tell me what your decision would be, in the comments below. (Especially you Indy. You never told me what you’d do)
I wouldn't use the device but still destroy it in the end. After that event, probably the whole world ended because of the fish dying in that bay, then the surronding marine life died from no food, then the whole freaking ocean loses its eosystem, then birds that eat fish die, the the planet loses all life. Simple as that. (ignore the lack of actual knowledge and logic I just displayed. :p)
You are very welcome. Now if only these stupid ads on my screen were as polite as you. =(
If you think about it. There are different ways to get Godzilla to leave. 1. Wait him out. 2. Leave the country. He won't follow. 3. Use several nukes, I mean like 10 nukes. 4. Just place some shrooms on him and he'll run out of atomic power. :)

i wouldnt use the oxagen destroyer on the OCEAN, but i would maybe... drop that sucker in godziller's mouth! OH SNAP! i would use it when hes in sucluded water, so it wouldnt kill everything.

oh yeah.. shrooms are parasites...
also, cool idea Dr Jones. that would be a hilariously horrible thing to do to Godzilla. XD yet it would probably be very effective
But it only works in water. Not in areas that are wet. The trhoat is not made of water so the oxygen destroyer wouldn't work. It would just give Gojira a bad tummy ache. :p

The Oxygen Destroyer ultimately ended up being a bad decision in the end. In every continuity, Godzilla came back, whether regenerated from nothing or another member of the species entirely. Plus, the Oxygen Destroyer ultimately spawned Destoroyah, who is by far a worse monster than Godzilla.

THE DOCTOR - My first instinct is to destroy the device in favor of its power never being brought to bear within Mankind's wars against himself. That being said, were I left with no other alternative, I'd utilize the Oxygen Destroyer to save as many lives as possible from Godzilla's ravages. The toal on oceanic life would, of course, be beyond what I'm willing to pay, thus I'd attempt to contrive a method to lure Godzilla into a water trap (perhaps a naval yard with subarine docks) and engage the Oxygen Destroyer therein. That would at least prevent some of the devestation that would be wrought upon the ocean's biosphere.
This was a very fun topic to consider! Thank you so very much for presenting this to us! :)

@SOMETHING REAL: that's a very detailed description. very complex. it could definitely work.

THE DOCTOR - Hahaha! Oh, I'm sure the theory is sound. However, given Godzilla's track record of being able to ruin even the best laid plans, I'd give my scheme about a 5% chance of success! ;)

oh you silly billys

Wow. This is my first discussion to make it to 20 replies. Thank you all! :_)

THE DOCTOR - You're most welcome, sweetie! Congratulations on your post reaching such a high mark! You should be very pleased! :)

Godzilla 1954 is a demon, a beast freak of nature that wasnt meant to exist.
He had to be killed at all costs. He wasnt like the other Godzilla's, he killed and laughed while doing so, he couldnt have been left to survive.
Good grief.

Why are you sorry? I was just stating what i would do in that situation.
Good grief.

Gojira in the originall whas only and enraged animal, The Frigate sent by the navy to stpo at odo island only made him mad and caused it to change its course to tokyo, where the Ligths acording to yamame in this film and Godzilla raids again, made him atack as it remembered him of the nuclear bomb that awakened it
i wouldn't use the Oxyegen Destroyher, an esasier solution and that breegly succeded in the next film, is to just turn of the City's power, and Lure awhay godzilla with Flares, even Serisawa knew The Oxigen Destroyher would cause more damage than godzilla, so he made sure it would never be used again
Evacuate?, Godzilla is just a Legend!-Woman in GMK

GORILLAGODZILLA - I agree. The original Godzilla was a MONSTER! I used to have nightmares about him when I was a little girl! :)

GG i think you are confusing that Godzilla with GMK godzilla, The originall whas a creature that didn't know it place in the present time
