Godzilla 2 Delayed to 2019, Godzilla vs. Kong Gets Release Date

Already facing stiff competition from summer 2018, which pit the King of the Monsters against the Bumblebee "Transformers" spin-off in the same weekend, Warner Bros has decided to delay Gareth Edwards' sequel to March 22, 2019.
This is undoubtedly disappointing news for fans who already have to wait an unusual amount of time for the sequel. Assuming no further bumps happen on the way, (such as the possibility of Skull Island flopping) this at least gives Edwards and his team ample time to perfect Godzilla 2.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has marked May 29, 2020 for Godzilla vs. Kong. 2020 has always been the target year; now Warner has set the epic match-up for early summer. In what will hopefully make up for the 5 year wait, fans will be getting two Godzilla movies within two years. The wait for his return after Godzilla 2 is a great deal shorter.

wow, i actually really appreciate the shoutout thanks alot! definitely not needed to be done but nice to see :)
to bad it was on this awful topic though, cant believe they pushed it back an entire year pretty much, maybe a couple months i can see but almost a year is a stretch, movie better be absolutely epic
Five years is a long time between installments in the same franchise, the same universe. I thought 2018 was stretching it a bit. But this? 2019? I hope they know what they're doing. I can see avoiding going head to head with projected 2018 blockbusters. That makes sense. But it's the length between installments that worries me. But, how do you maintain interest until then. Or, is it necessary? There is Kong: Skull Island next year. If it's a hit, that will help.
I wonder if Gareth Edwards will still direct Godzilla 2?
Hopefully, another blockbuster won't be scheduled opposite Godzilla 2 in 2019. I notice, also, that this 'rescheduling' was announced after the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan fight.
I don't understand what the fuss is all about. We've had to wait 10 years since 2004 for a new Godzilla movie. Even then, between 84 and 89 was 5 years.
I think this will help out by letting legendary have more time to work on the film to make it better. We need huge improvements over 2014.
And besides, we already have Shin Godzilla on the way. It'll be enough along with the new Ultraman movie and Gamera whenever it comes out. We have a lot to look forward to.
I believe 2004 to 2014 Is much longer by a long shot. Gg, don't let it get to you. As I mentioned, we have other kaiju films coming along before 2019 to hold us over. This is almost a rebirth of the golden age of the monster boom that happened during the 60's and 70's.
We should be rejoicing that we are getting this many kaiju films to begin with.
Shin Godzilla, Ultraman X the movie, ultraman orb New series, Gamera whenever it comes out, Pacific rim 2 when it comes out, Kong skull island, Godzilla 2019, and Godzilla vs. Kong 2020. Who knows, maybe more will come, hopefully.
I mean, for Godzilla fans it's not that long of a wait, but I will admit for general audiences Gorilla has a point.
Five years is a big gap for general, linear franchises. It's a gap that hurt Godzilla vs. Biollante at the box office back in the 80s. I think the saving grace here really is going to be Skull Island. To keep interest invested in Godzilla it wouldn't shock me if the King of the Monsters was given a prominent mention or even brief cameo some how. The movie has got to keep the momentum going for both franchises now.
Guess they're going to rely A LOT on Kong Skull island to keep the any hype or anticipation going into Godzilla 2. While the 5 year wait between the two Godzila movies is pretty long, Kong comes out in 2017 so if it connects heavily to Godzilla 2 it will bridge the gap down to 2 years
