Disney and Pixar have announced that their new animated film Soul will be released on November 20th, 2020. This date should ring a bell for kaiju fans, as it is also the scheduled release date for the upcoming fourth entry in the Monsterverse Godzilla vs. Kong. The Disney and Pixar film was originally slated to come out on June 19th, however, it has been forced to move due to theater closures related to COVID-19. It was also announced that Disney and Pixar's upcoming animated film Raya and the Last Dragon has been moved to March 12th, 2021 after initially being scheduled to release the week after Godzilla vs. Kong.
What exactly does all of this mean for the future of Godzilla vs. Kong? Well, Legendary and Warner Bros. could approach the situation in a variety of ways as a result of these two new box office moves. Godzilla vs. Kong already had Black Widow and No Time to Die to compete with, although it at least appeared like it had November 20th all to itself. And while Raya and the Last Dragon has moved out of the equation, the presence of a new box office neighbor on November 20th puts Legendary and Warner Bros. in a difficult situation.
The film companies could always hold steady and leave Godzilla vs. Kong on its current release date. Likewise, they could attempt to push the film back, although 2021 looks like a box office maze with all of the other film postponements. Some have even mentioned that the film could potentially be moved forward if a number of things fall perfectly into place. Regardless of what ends up happening with the release date for Godzilla vs. Kong, be sure to stay tuned to Scified for up-to-date information about the film and for future box office speculation and prediction articles.
