Since 1995 the Heisei Godzilla statue has been a centerpiece to the Hibiya Chanter Square--Now a contemporary Godzilla will take its place. On March 23rd, the 3 meter tall Shin Godzilla statue will become the new representative of the Hibiya Chanter Square. Given Shin Godzilla's extreme popularity in Japan, the update comes as no huge surprise. The film won 7 Japanese Academy Awards and was the highest grossing, live-action domestic film of 2016.
According to Gormaru Island, the area will be officially called the "Godzilla Square". Meanwhile, the Heisei Godzilla statue will be moved inside of Toho Cinemas Hibiya. The location opens March 29th.
