UPDATE 11/03/2022, 11:48PM: Toho has taken down our upload of the short film. We hope it will be made available soon and will re-post it when it is.
Original Article:
Godzilla Day in Japan reaches its climax with the highly anticipated short film, Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan's Attack! Like the Godzilla vs. Hedorah short from last year, the live action piece is a tokusatsu production celebrating 50 years of its title monster! Watch the full short here:
A higher quality version will be attached when it becomes available.
The film was directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa who helmed last year's Godzilla vs. Hedorah short. He was an assistant director on the Attack on Titan live action films, Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman. Additionally, he directed shorts for Godzilla theme park attractions including, Godzilla vs. Evangelion: The Real 4-D and the zip line attraction, Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji. He's also directed two episodes of Ultraman Z during the pandemic.
Production for the short began September 27th and wrapped on the 29th, with outdoor pickups on October 1st. The Gigan suit was newly constructed by Shinichi Wakasa. The Godzilla suit is another one of Wakasa's suits left over from Godzilla: Final Wars (2004).
The Official Godzilla Channel reveals:
The third installment following Godzilla Appears at Godzilla Festival in 2020 and Godzilla VS Hedorah in 2021 is finally released! Godzilla and Gigan clash using the Gigan suit produced in the "Gigan Suit Launch Project", which was implemented as a special project for Gigan's 50th Anniversary! Shooting took place in late September, we moved from the open set to Toho's stage 6, where we spent two days setting up and shooting for three days. The completed miniature set has a sense of scale that sets it apart from previous festival special effects, and when the city lights are turned on in the night scene, a beautiful cityscape spreads out as if a real city appeared there.
Director Nakagawa and all the staff members were black from smoke and dust, but it was a fun scene where everyone's eyes shined like a boy. Although there was a sense of tension for Godzilla special effects for the first time in a year. Godzilla and Gigan go on a rampage, flashy and extravagant. Please stay tuned!
This is one of two shorts celebrating Gigan's 50th anniversary. The CG animated Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex was released early during Godzilla Day.
