AdminGodzillaAug-21-2013 7:06 PMIn light of some of the strange, heated and arguably cluttering discussions that have gone on here recently, I thought I'd switch gears and see if there are any Ultraman fans around.
I've recently found a lot of love for the franchise created by Eiji Tsuburaya who, as many of you know, brought Godzilla to life for the first half of the Showa series.
I've only had the pleasure of watching the original Ultraman and Ultraman Nexus television series though. On top of that I've seen the movies, Ultraman: The Next and the Ultraman Zero trilogy. I've enjoyed all of them, but I have a special place in my heart for Ultraman: The Next and Nexus, which got me into the franchise. I've also seen most of Ultraseven X, but have yet to finish it.
Any fans here? Favorite series or characters?

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-21-2013 8:04 PMI love the Ultraman series! And while I wasn't sure about it, I actually really dig the Ultraman Zero series, and all the cameos from previous Ultramen, popular and unpopular, even the cartoons! I've seen Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Leo, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman the Next, Ultraman Mebius, Ultraman Max, Ultraman Neos, The Cosmos Movies, Ultraman Tiga, Ultraman Towards the Future, and some of Ultraman Powered. My favorite Ultraman series is a tie between Ultraseven and Ultraman Nexus. Favorite Ultraman is Ultraseven. I like his fighting style and the stories were very engaging for me.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-21-2013 10:12 PMI've only seen half of the original Ultraman series and one of the Ultraman Zero movies, but from what I've seen it's pretty great. Gomora is, by far, my favorite Ultra monster.

AdminGodzillaAug-22-2013 1:44 AM@Saiyaman_Unleashed You indeed best me as far as how much you've seen. Been itching to watch Max and Ultraseven. Of the others, which could you recommend to me as some must sees?
@Dr. Professor K.M.
Have you seen the two parter with Gomora from the original series? By far a couple of my favorite episodes. I'm glad he was utilized so favorably in the Ultra Galaxy movie. I recently ordered the full trilogy, so I can't wait to watch them again.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-28-2013 11:52 PM@GMAN2887 Max is a decent send-back to the original Ultraman series, in a creature of the week formula and only having a singule form, but I always felt of the original series that while it was cool it was overly simple, especially when compared to most of the series that follow, Ultraseven is good. As far as other recommendations, it depends on what type of Ultraman you like. If you like multi-form Ultramen, I would say Mebius or Tiga, the original multi-form Ultraman. If you prefer the showa series Ultramen, I'd go with Ultraseven! and Leo. From the little snippets of Ultraman Ace and Taro I've seen, they're a little more campy.
Avoid Powered and Towards the future, they were non-japanese produced shows, and the lack of experience really shows via effects. Not to mention the acting is terrible.

AdminGodzillaAug-29-2013 5:50 PMHmm... I think I might give Max a world. While I love continuing story lines I'm all for the monster-of-the-week formula. I thought it worked beautifully in the original Ultraman. The multiple form stuff kind of gets old for me...

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-30-2013 1:21 AMCool. I might revisit it myself. It'll be easier to watch with a busy schedule. I won't spoil who, but some of the favorite kaiju from older series make a return. There were a couple episodes that I really liked too. Max really is one of the better marriages of both old-school feeling and newer effects (better budgets). And if I remember correctly, Shusuke Kaneko, director of the new Gamera trilogy, has a few director credits in the series.
