MemberMothra LarvaeMar-03-2014 7:14 PMHaving just seen the MUTO toy on the front page article I can't help but draw comparisons to teh Cloverfield monster. It doesn't just look a little bit like it, it looks a LOT like it. The long, double jointed, bat-like arms, teh smaller arms at the mid section, everything except the colour and head. Matt Reeves said the creature in Cloverfield was an infant so maybe, just maybe, it was juevenile verison of the MUTO in Godzilla.
Anyway, thoughts?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-03-2014 7:19 PMIn reality, nope, not happening. BUT the only real extent it could be is a parody of it. JJ abrams tried to make a Monster for the US to the same effect of Godzilla, well obviously it really wasnt anything like Godzilla, it was just this baby walking around. maybe its to poke fun at the failures we tried to imitate to be like godzilla. but again even thats a stretch. also this picture:

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 2:35 AMI agree, it looks A LOT like clover. If only it didn't have those 2 little arms in the mid section you wouldn't really notice but I can't help but think that this new monster is a rip off from Cloverfield. Anyway, we haven't actually seen what the on-screen design is like so yeah.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 6:00 PMThere is no connection between the two, of that I can be certain. The Muto in the back of the toy box seems to be the winged Muto with the skin linked in between its arms, but that's just off a glance. No serious analysis there so don't quote me. It's just what it looks like to me.
But there is absolutely zero connection between Cloverfield and the Mutos.
Cloverfield was produced by Bad Robot Studios and distributed by Paramount, neither of which have anything to do with Legendary. A studio like Legendary wouldn't bother with going through the headache of acquiring the rights to a monster that could never measure up to Godzilla in any way just to kill it off and never see it again. There is no logic in such a course of action.
So no, there is no connection at all. There's a bit of a physical shape resemblance, but it's all coincidental. That much I can promise you.
