As I was on the internet, I came across some early American Godzilla concept art from a 1994 film. Godzilla was going to face the Gryphon in the early scripts. Here's the art:
Why did that have to turn into this?!?!

I mean, i could see where they were going with this design. A reinvention of a classica movie monster is never a bad thing! i liked zilla quite a lot as a matter of fact, and to this day i never get why people bash on Emmerichs film so much. It was actually quite good IMO.

Yeah, but the original idea for the 1994 movie was just as bad. It was going to be directed by Jan De Bont, and Godzilla was created by aliens. It was stupid. And i dont find the design that good either. The spikes looked great, but the rest was meh.

the design looks good but the story was horrible

I also like Zilla, but these designs would've ben better than the actual Zilla. (The ones Carnosaur showed were good.)
Also, I read a rumor that that the 2014 Godzilla was based on an usused script for the 1998 Godzilla.

^I heard that to

Well, Toho did want a slim and agile Godzilla...

@ CARNOSAUR: so it is okay, then if I make a remake (or rather, reboot in today's terminology) of 'Batman', except make it about a giant bat that eats people in the middle of New York City because, hey, I don't care about the original (that's actually not true at all, anyone who knows me knows I love Bats, I'm just using this as a dig at Emmerich because HE doesn't care about the source material)?
But personally, I'm of the opinion that it fails as a 'Godzilla' film and a monster film. Atrocious acting, utterly annoying, bland characters (the characters in the 2014 film were more likable than in the 98 film, I don't care what anybody says), tons of massive plot holes all over the place, godawful dialog ("that's a lot of fish" and "we need bigger guns!", 'nuf 'sed), oh, and did I forget to mention the action scenes just consisted of him running from the bumbling military who happen to destroy way more of the city than he does, and ripping off 'Jurassic Park' at every turn? Hardly what I'd call exciting or fun.

what Kmanx said preety sums up how i feel of the 1998 film

When I heard about the 1994 American Godzilla concept and the script for it, it made me wonder why didn't we get it. I enjoyed the movie concept, the characters, and the Godzilla origins. Having aliens make Godzilla provides a possibility at making Godzilla scientifically possible (for the aliens would have tech beyond our current abilities or understanding).
Even the 1998 Godzilla concept artworks show Zilla with more Gojira traits and looks... even an Atomic Breath! Why did they cut that out? I think the 1998 movie would have done better if they'd use the Zilla Jr concept they made for the cartoon series. Zilla Jr is a worthy Gojira for his Gojira-like traits and behavior.

I didn't say this? All i'm saying is that i liked the '98 film. There really is no need for you to express why you hate it so much when i simply stated i enjoyed it.

Hate to break it to you, but some of this could definetly be said about the new movie. Aaron taylor johnson carrying the lead, and the killing off of bryan cranston really did nothing for me in this new film, personally. How exactly does the '98 film 'fail' exactly as a monster film? With the amount of hatred you express towards it, can you truly provide an unbiased analysis of this film?
