Gomi: Ninja Monster
MemberBaragonDec-23-2019 3:40 PMI was going to put these in my original art showcase since I drew them during KaijuMonsterMarch, but I felt these guys deserved special attention.
Rampage Godzilla was a 1955 manga made as a sort-of tie-in with Godzilla Raids Again. Until last March I had no idea it existed, but in my search for obscure kaiju I discovered it and its bizarre cast of original monsters, shown below:
As soon as I saw this wacky hodgepodge of insanity I knew I had to redesign the whole crew. They're not quite perfect, but I've definitely laid the groundwork and will be coming back to utilize these guys someday. Anywho, here we go, in chronological order of course.
Day 2: Gyottos
This one seemed like the easiest to redesign, and aside from coming off less threatening than I would have liked, it was.
Day 3: Zottos
A peanut with eyestalks and a floppy tongue who can levitate objects by pointing at them is easily the most bizarre idea I've heard of for a kaiju, but with some heavy adjustments I think I made it halfway intimidating. The pose was a pain to draw though.
Day 4: Sugon
This one proved to be not only the easiest, but the most fun to redesign. I'm especially proud of the translucent effect I managed with the skin, literally by drawing it three times and mostly erasing the first two versions.
Day 7: Osoros
I put this one off for a few days, simply because I had no idea what to do with a bespectacled elephant covered in hearts. This one definitely needs another pass to improve the redesign, but for the time crunch it's not too bad.
Overall I think there's a certain charm to these goofballs, and I'd love to see them referenced or represented in an official production someday, but until that unlikely day I'll be sketching them to my heart's content. Critique is appreciated, and until whatever I decide to do next, Enjoy!

Zwei Wing is the best singing duo. Change my mind.

Gmkgoji: Thanks!
