Biollante is a one of a kind kaiju. going from an unpopular kajiu to one of the most popular kaiju in the series. The Godzilla franchise has a lot of monsters at their reach, but some monsters are just annoyingly underused. with the upcoming movies using Mothra, Ghidorah, and Rodan again, it is getting a bit repetitive. Biollante is part of the Godzilla anime universe but only appeared in the prequel novel, what many fans thought was very disappointing. The monsterverse could really use a kaiju like Biollante especially with her very original origins. after the combined suggestion from riggzamortis86 and the Jurassic bootleg, I thought to take on this monster for the "how to include into the monsterverse" and give her the love she deserves. Now here is my idea of how to include Biollante into the monsterverse.

I do want to point out that this is all speculation. I am not saying everything in here HAS to happen. This is just the way I would do it.

It all starts on an all too familiar island, skull island. During the mission lead by Houston Brooks' son Aaron Brooks, the team brought back some artifacts from the island. One of these items was a new kind of plant. this plant looked like a combination of a rose and a venus fly trap (it looks like Biollante's first stage from the original movie). When the team returned, the artifacts including the plant were taken to Monarch for research on the culture and undiscovered creatures of skull island. at this research station, the plant was named Biollante by the daughter of Dr. Shiragami. Dr. Shirigami was one of the leading scientists at the research station, whilst his daughter was one of the employees.

Many years later (around 5 years before present day), a natural disaster happened around the same location of the research. (this disaster could be based on a disaster that happened in real lives or the movie could come up with a disaster themselves. it's really up to personal preference.) Seeing as it was too dangerous to go outside the team of scientist tried their best to save the artifacts inside from the storm. They tried to save Biollante by implementing some of Godzilla's cells (which was also studied at the research station) because of its generative abilities. After a few hard days, there was a lot of damage done to the station. Many artifacts were destroyed and a lot of collected knowledge was lost, but there were a few things that stayed intact. one of these things was Biollante, although barely. If it wasn't for the Godzilla cells, the Biollante would have likely died from the collapsing building. unfortunately the same could not be said for the scientists inside the building. Dr. Shiragami's daughter was killed during the disaster, but Dr. Shiragami himself survived.

After the events of the disaster, Dr. Shiragami went into hiding because of his depressing of his daughter and wanted to be left alone for a while. He took Biollante with him as a memory of his daughter. As a way to sort of resurrect his daughter, he implemented some of his daughter's cells into Biollante. He has this because he took some of her blood when she was dead before he left and went into hiding. Over the next few months, Biollante became bigger and more intelligent. The leaves of the rose head began falling of revealing a more crocodile/Godzilla like head inside. One day Biollante disappeared from Shiragami and the only thing that was left was the last rose leaves and a trail leading to the water that was just outside of Shiragami's hideout. To Shiragami's surprise, about 3 to 4 years later, Biollante showed up at the same place as where she disappeared. This time she was way bigger then she was before. She was seen from far distances because of her giant size. When she saw Shiragami, she started roaring loudly which made the government and Monarch to come to look at her. Because of this Shiragami fled, because he didn't want to be found and wanted to stay alone and realizes that with Biollante he can't stay hidden. But the problem was that Biollante followed him where he went and the military chasing after them. Biollante grabbed Shiragami so they could get away quicker and Biollante brought him to the city. This is where Godzilla would come in and trie to stop Biollante and a big fight would take place. Biollante manages to get away, but Shiragami get's left behind in the city. Shiragami explains what happened and wants to go back to his hideout, but Monarch explains to him that Biollante will come back with Godzilla on her tail and kill more people so she can be with him again. As much as it hurts him, Shiragami knows that they are right and they are planning on going to the hideout with Shiragami because they know that Biollante will go back to there to look for Shiragami.

The plan works and Biollante stops at the hideout to look for Shiragami. Shiragami and Biollante have a pretty sad talk about Biollante having to let him go and that he has to do the same for her. Unfortunately, Godzilla catches up to Biollante and they fight for a final time. At the end of the fight, Biollante goes and sacrifices herself to protect Shiragami and the others from Godzilla's attacks that accidentally got in their way. Godzilla goes back to the ocean and Biollante dissolves into particles and floats into the sky.

Here we are again in the powers section of the forum. Biollante remains her trademark tendrils. Even though she is quite big and a plant, she would still be quite agile. She does this by using her roots to walk. just like Godzilla, Biollante can heal herself very fast and can regenerate fast after attacks. at last, she also has acid sap that can come out of her mouth to damage her opponents.

This is the end of the forum. once again, thanks for the submission by riggzamortis86 and the Jurassic bootleg. This one was an interesting one to come up with. It has to be one of the largest of these forums I have made. this was because there weren't a lot of directions I could go towards, but I tried to make it as unique as possible and something different than the original. some might disagree with the idea of the human cells being included in the origin, but I really wanted to have Biollante be a female kaiju and this made the most sense to me. it also would connect the human and monster stories very well. it is also not clear if the human cells changed Biollante in any way, but I leave it more open for debate if it had any effect.

If there are things that you would have done differently or just disagree with something, please let me know in the comments and we can discuss our opinions and if there are any other monsters that you would like to see, please let a comment telling me who/what you would like to see.

Thank you for the time you out into this.

I agree to have human cells fused with Godzilla cells. I like the Skull Island origin. But how does Monarch have Godzilla cells? That's my only beef with it all. But this was awesome to read. I love Biollante and this was fun to read. Great job.

Thanks a lot for the positive response.

I did not really think about how monarch got the Godzilla cells. Maybe Monarch collected some cells from Godzilla whilst he was knocked out in the 2014 movie. You could also combine this with the Godzilla Jr forum, where they got some cells from Godzilla Jr. Those are just some examples though.

That makes sense. There were not any dates on the story so I was confused as to when the 90's expedition brought the Skull Island flower and then the G-cells were introduced. That's all.

But adding the possibility of Godzilla Jr.'s cells makes sense too.

Yeah, maybe I should have been more clear about when the story takes place.

Now I  have added a small note around the part of the disaster that States that those events take place around 2014 to 2020. This time period is around the time that in my opinion would make sense and fit in the story seeing as more time passes later on.

The part where Biollante and Godzilla fight would be around 2022 to 2026. This is when I would imagine Godzilla 3 to release and take place. That is assuming that they use Biollante in Godzilla 3

^... or even having a "Godzilla 3" at all. Seeing how this Monsterverse may be playing without Godzilla and the gang after 2020. I would hope that possibly the Monsterverse will continue with Godzilla in it after GvK.

I like that Toho wants to make a Cinematic Universe out of its licensed properties, but the way I look at it(depending on how well G:KOTM and GvK do in the box office) why not continue in the Monsterverse. I know Legendary has some problems right now, but hopefully these movies along with the other Legendary releases gets them out of the problems and continue with the Monsterverse.

I mean no matter what, whether its Toho or Legendary we will see a "Monsterverse" and maybe see all these monsters and Kaiju that we all talk about one way or another.

I feel like the fans will be happy anyway it goes with the movies.

the monsterverse stops making movies with Godzilla. great, now we have many Japanese Godzilla movies to look forward to. the rights of Godzilla get extended. great, now we are getting more of the monsterverse to look forward to.

maybe Toho and legendary can even find a middle ground for the rights and both make movies. but maybe that's asking a bit too much.

anyway, it is a good time to be a Godzilla fan for sure.

Seeing as there isn’t a lot of activity on the site recently, I thought I would give you guys an update for next weeks forum for the ”how to include into the monsterverse” series. I have 4 options that I want to do next, but I want to know which one of these you would like to see first. Here are the options.

Jet Jaguar: a highly demanded character for a lot of people, but for this I would have to change a lot of his origins.

Orga: a kaiju that is surprisingly liked by a lot of people and one with a lot of potential for an original story.

Megaguirus: a kaiju connected to the original Rodan movie which could lead to some interesting stories.

Hedorah: a kaiju from a very controversial movie in the franchise. Fans want to see this kaiju return and face Godzilla ones again.

this is just an update to the people that were expecting a new forum today.

seeing as the popularity of the series has gone down massively and because I want to move on to other subjects for the site, I will give the "how to include into the monsterverse" series a break.

I feel like people are getting a bit bored of the series and the fact that there isn't a lot of hope for the future of the monsterverse also doesn't help.

maybe in the future, I will continue the series if there is some confirmation of more monsterverse movies. an alternative could be to make it more of a "how to reboot" series for each monster, but we will have to see about that.

@KaijuWorld Do you mean like a series on how some of the monsters can fit into Toho's new GCU (Godzilla Cinematic Universe)?

KaijuBuildz

MemberTitanosaurusJun-28-2018 12:22 AM

Seeing as those are the next toho movies, you could take it in that way. This series wouldn't specifically aim at that though. It's more about what interesting ideas you can do with the monsters that haven't been done before. An example of this is how Hedorah was a bioweapon in the current anime universe, which was a very interesting direction to go with Hedorah.

But don’t get your hopes up, because I am probably going to do some other things instead. This is just something I might do in the future. Right now my next project is going to be a concept for a new Godzilla game and how I would (realistically) make a good kaiju game.

Maybe biollante can be alien (make by aliens) and its somethink else orga (aliens use godzilla cells but somethink fail)

I really don't see how or why they would implement Jet Jaguar. By the looks of the trailer to this new godzilla, humanity seems to be at the mercy of the titanic kaiju

I love this series, great work!

As for the OP, Biollante would be easier to explain than other monsters. She could be a prehistoric Venus Fly Trap who's DNA gets altered by man-made instruments. Perhaps she could get discovered on a secret island like Kong was.

I always loved Biollante, would love to see her brought to Hollywood.

Thanks for the compliments. :)

I share the same idea as you if the idea of Biollante being from a secret island though I chose skull island, but you could use any island to be fair.

I find it interesting that most people are oké with the idea of changing Biollante’s original form from a rose to something else. Personally (as I explained in the story) I imagine Biollante’s original form to look like a small (more flower sized) version of Biollante’s first form which then changes/mutates into her second form.

WOW, thank you so much. I would never have thought that this series would get so far.

as of right now, I don't have any plans for more topics in this series. I am kind of waiting for some BIG news that announces more monsterverse movies, then I am going to make some more of these topics. there are some monsters like Hedorah and Orga which I which I would like to make a topic out of for this series.

if there are any monsters you would like to see in this series, please tell me them. I am all up for other peoples ideas and maybe even a concept which I could dive into for a certain monster.

First of all, I've read your pitch on ETN's Biollante pitch video, it is the same here as it is there. Second, I'm brutally honest, so I'll tell you that my reaction to your whole pitch is just the same as it was on YouTube. Third, there's an easier, simpler way to adapt Biollante without resorting to insane idiocy:

1) Straight off the bat — completely take away any biological connection she has with Godzilla (or a scientist's dead daughter) and have her be her own entity. Pure sci-fi and complicated elements from the classic Toho films just don't work in the MonsterVerse's realistic setting. It'll piss off the fans for sure, but if it sells her for the GA then it's a small price to pay.

2) It's already established in the MV's Skull Island that many of the animals have aggressively evolved to a point where they've become a natural hybrid mix of flora and fauna, and Biollante is already a florafauna creature so you can make it work from there. She resides peacefully in one of the swamps or lakes of Skull Island where any unsuspecting creature can go in for a drink, her tentacles can camouflage as natural foliage and even detect when an animal is nearby. Any animal that's close to her vicinity, she'll ambush it with her tendons and drag it down and drown it like a crocodile, and in any worst case scenario should she be threaten or struggle, she'll reveal her massive self and use her jaws to clamp down and crush her victims with tremendous force, and for self defense she shoots out her acid sap breath.

No G-cells, no Frankenstein experiments, no crazy bullshit ideas, just a very short, sweet and simple way to adapt her and make her feel believable for both the MonsterVerse and the general audience.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-12-2018 1:46 PM

I like all of these ideas, they play to the history of the character really well. I would like a slightly different approach though. I think it would be fun to have Biollante as a completely modern creation with no initial ties to the ancient world Godzilla is from.

Imagine an idealistic unnamed scientist working for a Monsanto allegory company, attempting to solve world hunger or something like that. Due to lack of results the company tells him they’re going to pull his funding if he doesn’t have a breakthrough soon. In desperation he turns to the black market and blows the rest of his budget on recovered G-cells, then mixes them in with his plants. A few weeks later the plant kills him (not necessarily on purpose) in the lab and escapes. No human DNA mixed in, so less of a human style drive for Biollante.

I think this this kind of origin would be easier for mainstream audiences to swallow, and it could fit into the Monsterverse narrative as a man made Titan as it were. Play up in the idea that Monarch has no clue what to do because they’ve never seen a situation like that before.

Thoughts?

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-12-2018 2:08 PM

MrAwesomeness360 I think that approach has a lot going for it. However, I fear that if the Monsterverse was around long enough for Biollante to be introduced then the “it came from Skull Island” approach would be tired and audiences wouldn’t engage as much as if she were man made.

"However, I fear that if the Monsterverse was around long enough for Biollante to be introduced then the “it came from Skull Island” approach would be tired and audiences wouldn’t engage as much as if she were man made."

1. I don't think the "It Came From [X]!" thing hasn't been done since...well...ever. It would rather be a refreshing thing to see again.

2. The FANS wouldn't engage it, the general audience (the people who the MonsterVerse is targeted to first and foremost) would be rather surprised by the sight of her. Besides, being a natural resident of Skull Island is the most practical way to introduce her that feels fitting for the tone of the MV. Godzilla and others have so far been introduced in a way that feels mythological, like some sort of gods, establishing Biollante in this angle is not only a new way to re-invent the character, but it's also captivating for the GA and they'll buy it easily.

PlainsViking

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-12-2018 2:42 PM

@MrAwesomeness360 We’ve already had an entire movie based on monsters from Skull Island. I don’t disagree that it’s a natural way to introduce/reinvent her, and that GA would buy into it. I just think it lacks creativity. With a genetic manipulation angle a more layered and meaningful story can be developed. That’s also one of the main things that sets Biollante apart from other Toho monsters and makes her more interesting. I completely agree about ditching the human DNA aspect, it’s far too woowoo for the Legendary universe. Mixing G Cells with plants ties into well known current day science and would be equally believable to GA, and to my personal taste would be far more interesting.

MrAwesomeness360

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-12-2018 5:46 PM

@PlainsViking

• "I just think it lacks creativity." But it is the most effective way to reboot her without complications. Simplicity can be just as effective, or even more. Take it from me: there's nothing wrong with simplicity.

• "With a genetic manipulation angle a more layered and meaningful story can be developed." The problem with that is that there is a lot of "how?" and "why?" that you need to answer to then justify that particular reason to add a certain character into the mix. How do you pull that off with the realistic tone the MonsterVerse has established? That's the question right there.

• "That’s also one of the main things that sets Biollante apart from other Toho monsters and makes her more interesting." Biollante is a flora/fauna hybrid, that alone is already interesting. Just think of how interesting a creature like her could be if she came from a more mythological direction.

• "Mixing G Cells with plants ties into well known current day science and would be equally believable to GA" Referring back to the tone and premise the MV has already established, everything about it so far is along the lines of myth and science meeting, Monarch makes scientific studies on the kaiju, but when they themselves are presented they feel not like overgrown animals but rather living gods. Genetic engineering is a real science, but it is yet to be established in the MonsterVerse and might not even be a thing there yet.

it has been a while since there was so much talk on one of my topics. I am just saying that every opinion is welcome on this site. these topics are just my way of doing things and I am totally fine if anyone has a different or negative opinion on them.

You guys have to remember that I am just taking Heisei origins and modernizing it, making some changes and fitting it into the monsterverse. I always like to have these topics both similar to its previous origins and add some new elements.

I do want to point out that the human cells probably didn't even affect this version of Biollante. only the Godzilla cells are mutating the creature.

"How do you pull that off with the realistic tone the MonsterVerse has established?" really, that is your argument. this universe is as believable as a 100m tall lizard with atomic breath, a 30m humanoid ape, a godlike moth and a 3 headed dragon (possibly from SPACE). you could say the same about the MCU and they have gods, talking trees and a raccoon with a machine gun whilst being realistic. Biollante (even with the addition of cell mutation) is already perfect for the monsterverse as she is and the bioengineering fits in with the overall tone of the monsterverse.

+ this is sci-fi, it is not meant to be fully realistic and believable. people don't go in these movies with a science book so they can break down every element from a story to say it is unrealistic.

I can totally understand the idea of making Biollante an already full grown creature from skull island. it fits in with the logic of the universe around it, but how would it fight Godzilla if she is there. surely it would have to fight kong instead (though that could also happen). I also think that saying that is was a huge creature from skull island would be kind of lazy. by making her be a mutated plant from the island with some Godzilla cells just makes it a little more interesting.

"But it is the most effective way to reboot her without complications. Simplicity can be just as effective, or even more." I don't think that you understand the premise of a reboot completely. a reboot should improve a character and its story, should make it more timeless and make it fit in its new universe. just simplifying a character for a reboot is the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do with a classic character.

"Biollante is a flora/fauna hybrid, that alone is already interesting." if that was the reason, megalon would be as incredibly popular as Biollante. the reason Biollante stands out is her design and her message of experimenting on plants. that message is one of a kind in the kaiju franchises.

these are just some of my reasons I made the topic the way it is. everyone has their different reasons when creating a story and this is just one way to do it, MY WAY. everyone is allowed to create their story the way they want. that is something to remember and I am happy to hear your opinions (even if they are negative).

And you MrAwesomeness360 should do the same. saying stuff like "these bullshit ideas" about just someone's opinion is not very nice to someone who has put hard work and research in something. PlainsViking respects my ideas and gives his take on the character of Biollante without being rude to me, so maybe you can learn some more from him.

"this universe is as believable as a 100m tall lizard with atomic breath, a 30m humanoid ape, a godlike moth and a 3 headed dragon (possibly from SPACE)." You're focusing in the wrong aspect. It's not about what exists in this world, it's how do you present them in a plausible manner that can be acceptable for the general audience. Just remember, selling kaiju to them is already hard enough as it is. You can make Godzilla believable with the scientific and mythological approach the MonsterVerse is taking. I repeat, it's not about the monsters themselves, it's how you present them.

• "bioengineering fits in with the overall tone of the monsterverse. No, it's the meeting between science and mythology that is the overall tone of the MonsterVerse, bioengineering has not once ever been mentioned nor introduced.

• "a reboot should improve a character and its story, should make it more timeless and make it fit in its new universe. just simplifying a character for a reboot is the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do with a classic character." But you can't always introduce them the exact same way in every iteration all the time, you're gonna have to find a way to re-introduce them differently at some point, even if it means amputating once in a while. Kong was re-introduced differently before and no one bat an eye, King Ghidorah changes origins all the time and nobody goes on an outcry, why shouldn't Biollante?

• "this is sci-fi, it is not meant to be fully realistic and believable." You don't have to tell me that, but I'm speaking for the general audience, the normal people who has a hard time getting into Godzilla as it is. Here's one thing you need to understand: the Heisei series got away with the stuff it did because it embraced the more out there elements of science fiction, that was their tone from the start (Super-X comes to mind), but the MonsterVerse hasn't and is more about what it's like if these monsters existed in our world. How can you get away with these ideas in a world that has a different tone and setting? Marvel can get away with it because that was their tone from the start. People accepted Rocket and Groot more because alien elements were slowly implemented since Phase 1, and they're characters that can easily be humanized. Kaiju don't have that luxury.

• "saying stuff like "these bullshit ideas" about just someone's opinion is not very nice to someone who has put hard work and research in something." You're right, it may not sound nice, but I did gave a heads up that I was gonna be brutally honest, you wanted an honest opinion and that's what I gave. If a pitch sounds terrible, it's terrible, I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm not gonna sugar coat it either.

I love Biollante, I think she would work better in the Monsterverse than Mechagodzilla or Gigan or Spacegodzilla. Both design-wise and tonally with the legendary movies. This is my art btw.

Wow, that looks awesome!!! Yeah, I definitely agree with that. Gigan and Mechagodzilla are as of right now a bit out there, but Biollante would just be perfect for the Monsterverse.
