GMHHS The Smog

“The night is cold and windy for those without a home or family to keep them warm.”  That is what the homeless man said as he laid down out in the woods.  “The only ones out are the kids wanting to see the monsters everyone’s talking about.  Go for a little swim in the black lagoon.  Be picked up by the ghost’s shadow in the moonlight.  Maybe see the shrine demon and help it grow?” he snickered.  He looked up at the sky to see the stars overhead when one came falling down.  The star landed with a loud cracking sound with flames spewing high over the trees.  “Not that may be a fire that can keep me warm!”  The homeless man approached the crash site to find a large meteorite.  The rock shook ad shuttered like something was moving inside.  The man grabbed a stick and started poking it.  He was intrigued by the rock now.  The rock split in two, revealing a strange black substance.  The man continued to poke at it with a stick when suddenly the black goo leapt onto the man’s hand.  A surge of pain shot up through his arm.  Whatever this thing was, it was painful and it wasn’t coming off.  Just touching it was painful, and a horrible smell was emanating from it.  The homeless man made a run for the road grunting as he still tried to get the thing off him.

The night had been wild for Hitashi and Mia.  They had seen the growing statue of the Demon Ceasar, and tomorrow night they would visit the infamous black lagoon.  Hitashi was driving down the road laughing at Mia’s fliverous jokes and attempts to scare him, but out of the cover of his eye he saw something running onto the road.  He barely managed to stop his car in time.  It was a homeless man who seemed to be in distress.  Hitashi told Mia to stay in the car and got out himself.  He hadn’t hit the man but something was hurting him.  Was he attacked?  It wasn’t long before he noticed the large black substance that was on the man’s hand up to his forearm.  He picked the man up and got him in his car, telling him to relax until they reached the hospital.  As he started driving his girlfriend asked him what was on the man’s hand.  He could provide an answer.  It wasn’t long that they reached the nearest hospital and they carried the man in.  As they carted him away to a room Hitashi noticed the black substance seemed bigger than it was before.  They were asked to explain the circumstances to which they found the man.  Hitashi and Mia sat in a room with the only doctor available at the time and told the story.  It must have taken about 10 minutes until the doctor finally got to the patient.  Hitashi and Mia came as well.  The doctor tried to talk to the man but he didn’t respond, not even a little motion was made by him.   Then, a foul smell caught their attention.  It was something they hadn’t smelled before, as the doctor came to the conclusion that the man may have defacated and removed the sheet covering his body…  but his body wasn’t under the sheet.  Mia screamed as she saw the now bodiless man laying on the bed, what was left of his body was a slimy gunk, like it had melted or been dissolved by acid.  Hitashi noticed a strange trail from the bed to the toilet room.  They opened the door but found nothing but the toilet, and more black slug in it.  “Call the police immediately!” the doctor said.

                A week after the incident at the hospital people reported strange black fluid coming from their pumping.  They had no idea what it was, where it came from, or what was causing it.  All any one knew was that the smell from the stuff was foul.  Some described it as rotting flesh and shit, while other thought it smelled like raw sewage and 10 year-old mold.  It got so bad in some cases people started coming into the hospital with breathing problems, strange chemical burns, and diseases.  That’s why sewage workers Lee and Jin Yu were down there to investigate.  They were called in when the city started to get massive complaints.  They were headed to a sort-of reservoir designed to deal with major sewage to see if it was functioning properly.  They both had to wear hazmat suits because the conditions down in the sewers had become toxic.  They both turned down a corner to reach their destination until they both hit a wall. 

“Great Jin Yu, you got us lost again” Lee said.

“We aren’t lost, this should be the way.  Check the map” Jin Yu defended. He wasn’t one to get them lost.  Not when he wanted to breathe fresh air as soon as possible.  Even with the hazmat suits on the smell still managed to permeate thru them.  He started looking around at the wall to see what it was.  Some new construction they weren’t told about maybe. 

Lee went and got out a map of the sewers of Saitama.  He looked through it to see if he could find out where they were, when suddenly Jin Yu walked right back into him.  He asked him what the hell he was doing when he noticed Jin Yu was staring at the wall…  and when he looked at it…  the wall stared right back at him.  Two large crimson red eyes with deep black pupils were locked onto them.  Lee walked to the right side of the side wall, but the eyes followed his movement.  They both started to inch back from it, but the thing started to inch towards them as well.  Before they knew it they were both running down the sewage tunnels with the black slug creeping behind them.  It was like a flood of tar and filth coming for them.  Jin Yu spotted a ladder up ahead and called out to Lee behind him so he’d notice too.  Jin Yu grabbed the ladder and started to climb up with Lee not far behind.  They were close to the surfave, Jin Yu had his hands on the manhole cover, when he haerd Lee scream.  The creature had him by the leg and was pulling him down.  Jin Yu stretched his arm out and grabbed Lee’s arm and tried to pull him up off the creature, but it wouldn’t release him.  The creature oozed up over Lee’s body slowly engulfing him into its mass.  Lee screamed as the creature was tearing through his suit, burning his body like a giant bacteria.  Eventually Lee couldn’t keep his grip, and the slug on his suit made it so Jun Yu couldn’t hold him.  The creature yanked Lee back down into the sewer tunnels and oozed away like a ghost down another tunnel.  Jun Yu emerged from the tunnel alone; his mind shook as he tried to maintain his sanity for what he had just witnessed.  The next day papers flooded about the surviving sewer worker’s story and the Japanese military was immediately called in.  They search for the creature finding only the slug trail it leaves behind, not knowing what it is.  Only that it is large, toxic, and growing by the day on the filth on mankind.
