PINNED

Godzilla 2 was massively teased at the Legendary panel and I was there to witness it! Here's what I saw in full detail:

Legendary panel begins and the stage lights up. An annoying hostess from Nerdist or IGN or whatever comes on stage and introduces Thomas Tull who congratulates everyone at Comic Con for making Godzilla a smash success. Says he apologizes that Gareth couldn’t make it to say hi, so he plays a special video:

Gareth is on-screen with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background and says he’s sorry he couldn’t make it to Comic Con because he “was helping the city rebuild after Godzilla’s fight with the Mutos.” As Gareth tries to thank the fans for helping make the sequels possible, he mentions he’s working on other projects first (AKA Star Wars) and will work on Godzilla 2 soon.

Then something interrupts Gareth, to which Gareth looks off screen and yells, “COME ON GUYS, KEEP HIM OVER THERE ON THE ISLAND. I’M NOT CLEANING THIS UP ALL OVER AGAIN!”

Camera shifts to what he’s talking about, it’s Alcatraz but it’s covered in a massive dust cloud. A tail swipes through the dust clearing it, you see Godzilla in his fully-detailed glory. He roars and deafens all of Hall H. We then see a text wall that says “THANK YOU” in big Godzilla font style. We then cut back to Gareth (with some of the camera/light crew hilariously put in the front on purpose for comedic effect), who then says while angrily storming off the view of the camera, “Yelling, he’s always yelling. Who does he think he is? Bryan Cranston?” Everyone laughs, including me.

Back to the panel, Thomas Tull says thanks again (this is where everyone thinks the panel is gonna end for Godzilla, nope!) then he says they actually snuck some “Top Secret MONARCH Files” to let us know what’s to come. Everything goes black to show off some footage, I scream like a fangirl:

The video begins with a speech by JFK (with some actual footage of the speech), we cut back and forth between him and top secret MONARCH activity, similar to the kind of footage in the opening of the 2014 film. Then we see images of Godzilla from the 2014 film, it freeze frames on him roaring and types something out on screen in classic “military file type” fashion and font, it reads:

CODENAME: GODZILLA

Then, the video teases some epic lines of text, I believe it was:

THERE ARE OTHERS!

Then we see a shadow of Rodan flying over the mountains. (His profile is very similar to classic Rodan and his motion is far more slick). More text flies in:

CODENAME: RODAN

We see a huge silhouette of Mothra come in close and flap in place for a second (she looks exactly how a realistic giant moth would appear, except just like classic Mothra, this one flaps slowly with massive power, great motion and animation). Even more text:

CODENAME: MOTHRA

Suddenly the video stutters and glitches out even more than most of the video (probably implying Ghidorah is gonna be the ultimate villain). And then we see small glimpses of a three headed winged creature. (His heads appear more dragon-like, like Smaug; wings are about the same but the motion is very smooth like the others). More text:

CODENAME: GHIDORAH

The final set of text begins to start getting typed, it’s hype-inducing. Text reads:

THREAT ASSESSMENT: CONFLICT INEVITABLE

“LET THEM FIGHT!”

Clip ends, Thomas Tull leaves the stage, and I need a new pair of pants.

And that's what I saw, it was glorious and I couldn't be more excited; well, maybe if one of them was Gigan. Any further questions? Feel free to ask!

@INSTINCTIVEGIGAN

Thanks for sharing these details with us. Can I ask you, were you there for the 'Skull Island' reveal at the convention? If so, can you please give an equally vivid description of what you saw and heard on that reveal as you did with the Godzilla sequel reveal? The main things I would like to know, please, are; what did Kong look like in shape and colour? Were there any distinctive features? And how tall or large did he look? (Maybe in comparison to other Kongs or to other Kaiju, like Godzilla). Thank you!

Can you tell me what JFK speech it was based on what you remember?

^^ don't think you can compare from what he saw, as 1 they were only shadows of them, and two, nothing to compare them with in terms of size (buildings around, backround distance and that stuff)

Looking back at this topic, I really hope we hear something about Godzilla 2 this summer at SDCC. Even if just another teaser, anything like what they showed at this comic con would be unreal.

^I think it's more likely Legendary will focus on Kong this summer. We might get a passing mention of Godzilla.

Just in case it flew under the radar for some of you, a legit leak of Ghidorah from G2 surfaced the other day, but was covered up by a fake leak meant to deter attention from the real one that was floating around for a short time

Stay tuned for more information.

MONARCH,
Thanks for the info. Where did this supposed leak pop up?

MONARCH,
I finally got caught up on everything. I'm not sure the other is real either. Pre-viz is one thing, but early effects shots without any photography? Paint me skeptical.

In the meantime, lets regulate the conversation to one topic and not spam the secondary "leak" in all of the other threads.

MONARCH

Not effect shots, more like rough sketches of concept mechanisms, a sketch diagram of what the future prop would be meant to do and how the effect could be practically achieved.

Not the normal type of thing to leak, but still, its without a doubt legit and an interesting thing to view if you're into that. Seems like the necks (the throats) will be very crazy and alien for sure

^ Id like to point out that with the official confirmation that practical effects are indeed being used, any info I (originally MONARCH) post MIGHT just be official ;)

Note that I had previously mentioned practical effects being reportedly used long before the actual confirmation...

This is from a couple years ago dude. When the new toho monsters were announced. Old news. We have  more info now than that teaser showed us.

Seriously stoked for this. Thanks for sharing this info. Now.. we wait for actual teaser footage. The sooner the better.

Legendary needs to ramp this up. Start the marketing campaigns now. Scare the competition. Let all those in Hollywood know.. that the Kaiju Movies are back and better than ever.. and here to stay. Move over Justice League and Avengers.. Godzilla and company.. are coming to stomp all over you.

My hope is that THIS film.. really rocks the foundations of the box office.. and puts the critics in their place.
