Titan of Water #TeamGodzilla
Tomorrow is an important day for me. Not only is it my birthday, but I will finally be an adult and have been a true Godzilla fan for one year. While I knew about Godzilla for a long time, I don’t think I became a fan until one year ago. When I was twelve, I had really bad anxiety problems. They haven’t fully gone away, but it’s a lot better. But back then I could have random breakdowns anywhere at anytime, so it was sort of a tough time. During May 2014 when the Godzilla reboot was coming out Netflix released the Showa Series, and I watched most of them. They made me happy and gave me a distraction from my own crap. Then I saw the 2014 reboot and I was the happiest kid in the world for awhile (although I still struggled with breakdowns). Sadly, when summer ended and school came around I tried to act cool and pretended that I thought Godzilla was dumb, and I quickly forgot about him. But by my high school years, I just didn’t care about that crap anymore, I was gonna like what I like whether others made fun of me or not. I soon rediscovered my love of Godzilla from, ironically enough, Jurassic Park. Last year Fallen Kingdom came out, and I was a fan of Jurassic Park and dinosaurs in general, so as I anticipated the film I did research into as many dinosaur movies as I could, and then I rediscovered the Godzilla franchise. I watched the first two anime movies on Netflix (ugh), and became even more drawn in when the first KOTM trailer came out July 2018. So for my birthday last year I bought as many of the Showa Era movies I could find on Prime Video, and the one I watched that day was the 1954 original. I loved the movie, thought it was a masterpiece, and I think that is when I became a truly devoted fan. So here is to one year of fandom for the Big G. Hope to be with him for many years to come.
