Yes! According to an article by ABC news, recently co-director Shinji Higuchi talked about Godzilla 2016, and he gave confirmation that the new film will be a combination of both classic Tokusatsu and CGI.

This is outstanding news! Most hardcore G-Fans have been near death at any news of this upcoming film, me included. Along with the article, it is said that this new Godzilla will be larger than Hollywood's Godzilla 2014. This hasn't been directly said by the man [Shinji Higuchi] himself, but it's a pretty cool thought.

This is also among previous rumors of the film being an updated Godzilla 1954, which must have driven long-time fans ecstatic, once again, me included!

This is just amazing news. Incredible! I was hyped, but now I am extremely hyped. This film could potentially be one of the most fantastic Godzilla films ever created; it could be on par with the original!

Higuchi stated that the film will be made like the recently released Attack on Titan; the movie was a pretty bad-ass film that most Tokusatsu lovers are proud of!

Overall, I am psyched, and I am sure many others are. This is a great era for G-Fans, and I most definitley can't wait. Thanks to member AlexTheBurger for the heads up!

Exciting news! :) I can't wait for this. My question is: Will this be released in U.S theatres or not? Will we at least get a decent dvd with a dub and subs?

People keep talking about Attack on Titans effects but there is a huge difference between the Titans and Godzilla.  The Titans are humaniod monsters that look like deformed humans without genetals.  Even in a Hollywood feature practical effects make the most sense.  But Godzilla is a reptile who doesn't have a humanlike body at all.  So yeah I hope its use of suits is limited

^I've heard this comment before, but it's made less and less sense each time it's used. Godzilla has always had an anthropomorphic stance and the Legendary movie hardly changes that up at all. Saying he doesn't look human at all is true, but to assume the same techniques can't be as convincing with Godzilla as it is with Attack on Titan is narrow sighted. I don't understand how a man in a monster costume is any less absurd than a man in a deformed giant costume at this point.

In any case I hope there's PLENTY of suitmation in this. Toku needs to push itself forward, but it doesn't have to use an abundance of CG to do it. Furthermore it needs to visually set itself apart from the 2014 flick as a Japanese movie and using Japanese effects would do worlds for it.

I would be curious to see how anthropomorphic Godzilla would have looked had Tsuburaya been able to realize him in stop motion, as he originally wanted. They weren't able to utilize those effects because of time and budget. Tokusatsu was out of necessity, and with that they created an entirely new art form, and they made the best of what they had to work with. It worked for them, but they were restricted to Godzilla moving within the limitations of a man's movements. I love Godzilla as much as the next guy, but I've never been married to the "just a man in a suit" approach. If someone could get Godzilla "right" and do him as a totally CG character, I'd be all for it. In fact I thought on the whole Godzilla looked great in the 2014 film. I personally would have made some different design decisions, but for all intents and purposes from a looks standpoint, that was Godzilla.
