Now while the upcoming movie has made it apparent Godzilla will be fighting another monster, and the sequel idea that was talked about it a monster island idea, it's apparent we won't see the big G solo for a while. This makes me wonder if Godzilla could work solo anymore or has his brand been so influenced by other monsters that the movie would no longer work. While the 2 solo titles of the orginal and 1985 are both strong entries the last solo Godzilla movie, not counting the American 1 just so those arguments can be avoided, was 30 years ago. Personally when I first heard of G200 I was sure he was going to be solo as most resets are, but he had another monster with him. The other monsters really have influenced this series as evident by the muto thats' coming up. There seems like there is a lot more interest in that character than Godzilla himself. What is it, will it be strong, it's back story ect. There are even questions among what monsters should return should sequels be made. So obviously other monsters hold quite a high value in this community. They influence the movies, bring in more people, and make it interesting to learn about them. With such a huge stock of monsters behind him and no doubt more coming with the new movies could Godzilla ever get another solo movie? If he did would it be weaker than if another monster was involved? Would you be as excited to see it knowing it was a solo Godzilla movie, or disappointed that no other monster was showing up?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-25-2014 2:21 AMWe may see a Godzilla Stand-Alone movie far in the future if his popularity endures.
However, for the time being, it's incredibly unlikely. It's not because Godzilla's solo story is inadequate for the big screen.....it's because everyone is kind of aware of it already.
The movie would get stuck in this double edged sword: If they keep it too similar to Godzilla's other origin movies it would get panned as a cliche retread. If they deviated and added original content, people would say it did not respect it's source material.
It's just much easier to add other monsters and avoid the dilemma altogether.
