AdminGodzillaMar-15-2014 2:41 PMUPDATE #8: Minor one here. Classic Media is releasing a new DVD only release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. No word on if this will include the Japanese version. Chances are it's just a repackaging of a disc that's been on the market since 2005. More information as it comes.
Prices have been raised for the pre-orders of the Sony Godzilla Bluray. I've adjusted the prices for you. Same goes for the Gamera Legacy Collection. Though the price hikes aren't significant.
Artwork for King Kong vs. Godzilla and King Kong Escapes has been updated as well.

AdminGodzillaMar-17-2014 1:56 PMUPDATE #9: MASSIVE update. Amongst the merchandising mayhem, 8 of the most anticipated Godzilla bluray have been updated with art and details from Sony:
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II/Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
Godzilla vs. Destroyah/Godzilla vs. Megaguirus
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S./Godzilla: Final Wars
Each set will include two discs for each movie. All of them include Japanese versions (which is a first for vs. King Ghidorah, Battle for Earth, vs. SpaceGodzilla and vs. Destroyah) and their original aspect ratios. (Which is a first for vs. King Ghidorah and Battle for Earth.)
Extras include theatrical trailers and Behind the scenes featurettes for Tokyo S.O.S. and Final Wars.
Information from Sci-Fi Japan.
Make sure to check the very first post at the top of the page for cover art, information and the Amazon pre-order link!

AdminGodzillaMar-25-2014 10:32 AMNEWS: Toho is in talks with another distributor about releasing Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla on Bluray. No word on who this distributor is since the deal hasn't been made. Once we know it should give us an idea to how those two will be treated on Bluray. More info as it comes.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-30-2014 11:24 PMApologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I'm curious... I see a lot about some of the Godzilla films having HD transfers but do we know the quality of the source prints at all?
A VHS source in 1080p is still terrible. I did read that King Kong Vs Godzilla apparently has issues because at least some of the original 35mm print was lost and they had to restore with 16mm. On the other hand the restoration of the original Gojira print for the criterion release is apparently fantastic...

AdminGodzillaMar-31-2014 12:15 AM@Lothos
I'm no authority on HD masters, but I can confirm that, with the exception of King Kong vs. Godzilla and King Kong Escapes, the rest of the materials come from Toho's HD masters. What the distributors do with those after the fact is up to them...
Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Biollante have been said to have contrast issues due to the differing levels between Japan and North America. (This is often fixed by playing with the contrast on your television.)
Sony has been known to play with the materials given to them in the past. Tokyo S.O.S. has a blue color filter on it and Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla / Destroyah had some alterations. (I can't confirm the latter two though.) What Sony does with their new Bluray discs is yet to be seen. Though I'm sure it will be of excellent quality.
The issue with King Kong vs. Godzilla comes down to which version you're talking about. I've also heard about the loss of certain prints. I believe that affects Toho's Bluray discs, but Universal's is a different story. Since it only includes the American version their materials come from somewhere else.

MemberBaragonMar-31-2014 5:01 AMUgh everytime I see the title Godzilla on Monster Island for Godzilla vs Gigan I cringe. It's a really bad translation and it's stuck to the movie.
Also not that big of a fan that they changed the double feature with Destroyah to include Megaguirus.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaMar-31-2014 1:57 PM@Dup004
The double feature change was most likely done to accomodate Godzilla 2000, which will likely get special treatment. Otherwise, that set would've included Godzilla vs. Destroyah / Godzilla 2000. (Which is a better pairing, I think, but I can understand they're trying to keep the releases as much in order as possible.)

AdminGodzillaMar-31-2014 2:22 PMUPDATE #10: Classic Media has released special features details on their 2 Disc Gojira/Godzilla: King of the Monsters re-release. No surprise, but they're the exact same features from their release nearly 10 years ago. Same discs. New packaging.
Classic Media is also considering repackaging the rest of their Godzilla titles later this year. They currently have no plans to release them on Bluray, however...

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-04-2014 2:32 AMI placed my pre-order in for Sea Monster, Hedorah, Gigan, and all the Sony Double Features. I'm debating on whether I should get KK vs G, KK Escapes, the Destroy All Monsters Blu Ray, the Megalon Blu Ray, the Gamera Blu Rays, King Kong '05 Steelbox, Zilla The Series and the Sci-Fi 4 Set with Mothra or not, and since I have the Criterion Collection Blu Ray release of Godzilla '54, I don't think I'll be picking that up anytime soon.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaApr-04-2014 10:45 AM@Member of the Planet X
I wouldn't bother with the re-release of Classic Media's Godzilla '54 DVD unless you're a completist and want the special features that Criterion doesn't have. The Criterion version is far superior.
As for the rest, it's all down to preference.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-15-2014 6:16 AMIt was my understanding that the Godzilla vs Megalon Blu was shelved because the US distributer and Toho couldn't agree on content/special features? Hell, even Amazon.com lists it as unavailable.

AdminGodzillaApr-15-2014 7:42 AM@Wraith0711,
The issues between Toho and Media Blasters has been resolved. However, the upcoming Godzilla vs. Megalon Bluray will be barebones and not include any special features. Media Blasters has yet to contact Amazon.com about their upcoming release. It will be released this July.
@JinTheDragon,
Thanks for the heads up. I'll update when I have a chance.
Wraith0711
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-15-2014 4:32 PMCool on the release date, Thank you for the info Sir. Will they be releasing anything else in july that you've heard of? Been looking high and low for a Japanese language version of G2000, find listings on them and get them but always turns out the same dubbed english/french dvd I already have.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaApr-15-2014 4:48 PMAs of right now, all the July releases are listed above.
I know that another company is in talks to acquire the rights to Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla... But I have no clue what company that is, what their plans are or when they'll be released.
The last three Godzilla movies Sony has to release on Bluray are Godzilla 2000, GMK and Godzilla against MechaGodzilla. If the sales for the Sony Blurays listed above sell well, it's likely Sony will release these three when Legendary's Godzilla hits DVD/Bluray.
I'm just guessing, but it's very likely GMK and Godzilla against MechaGodzilla would be a Bluray double feature and Godzilla 2000 would be a two disc set itself since the Japanese and American cuts are so different. Sony has already said the (re)release of those three movies depends on the sales for their upcoming Bluray.
As of right now there is no North American release for the Japanese version of Godzilla 2000.
Wraith0711
MemberMothra LarvaeApr-15-2014 6:37 PMYou misunderstand, I'm not looking for the Japanese dvd, I'm looking for the american dvd colombia/tristar release of G2000 with a JAPANESE AUDIO TRACK if there is even one in existence. I hate watching dubbed G movies, they are almost unwatchable.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaApr-16-2014 12:35 AMI understood fine, I guess I simply wasn't clear enough. In short: What you're looking for does not exist. Sony has yet to release the Japanese "audio track", but because there are significant changes between the American and Japanese versions, it wouldn't be as simple as putting in a Japanese audio track.
Sony made enough cuts and edits to Godzilla 2000 where it would be impossible to sync a Japanese audio track to their version. Thus an entirely different version (Toho's Japanese version) would have to be released from Sony in order for you to watch the film in Japanese language. (Hence, Japanese version.) This may happen if their upcoming Bluray prove successful.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-16-2014 5:46 AMThank You! Finally somebody with a solid answer AND explaination to boot. For real, thank you for the information. Can finally stop looking and also: Job very well done on this thread. Can tell a lot of time went into it. Lesson learned: You want info? Don't ask a store, ask a fan!

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-28-2014 3:10 PMThere's a question I have about Destroy All Monsters' DVD/Blu-Ray reissue. I've read from reviews on Amazon that the initial DVD/Blu-Ray release included the AIP dub as well as Toho's international dub. Will the reissue have the AIP dub as well, or will it only have the inernational dub?
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaApr-28-2014 5:24 PM@Angzilla,
At this time I can't give you a sure fire answer. There were early rumors that stated the AIP dub was still attached to the re-issue.
Recently an acquaintance of mine went to a Chiller show where they were selling early copies of the Destroy All Monsters re-issue. The Media Blasters representative said there was no AIP dub on the disc. Just the Toho international version. There is, of course, the off chance that the rep could'v been mistaken...
My guess is no AIP dub, but we probably won't know for sure until this July.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-06-2014 11:16 AMPlease! Can anyone confirm if the sony double feature blu ray's are region free or at least region a and b? I would also like to know if the 3 kraken release godzilla movies are region free. Has anyone tested this on different blu ray players. If so I would like to know a.s.a.p
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaMay-06-2014 11:48 AMBoth the Kraken and Sony discs are Region A only.

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-08-2014 1:08 AMI was so glad when I saw the new 2 packs show up at wal mart where I was shopping. Have never seen the Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla so I got that 2 pack and watched it :D (was awesome) I just ordered the only copy I saw of the return of Godzilla dvd from amazon, but man that would sure be cool if they ever get it to blu ray as well, always my favorite godzilla movie. One of my roomates has this old 65 inch projection tv that we watched all the original black and white godzilla movies on (god the godzilla collection on dvd), definitely the best way to watch em :D

MemberMothra LarvaeMay-09-2014 12:25 PMI just got my Amazon order this morning with all the Godzilla Blu-Rays that came out this past week. I watched the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla vs. Mothra 2pack, and it's awesome. The sound is great, the picture is great, and I'm pleased to announce the Japanese Tracks are awesome. It takes away a lot of the Campiness that the English versions have.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaMay-09-2014 12:59 PM^Glad to hear they're solid. they've been getting mixed reviews. I should be reviewing the Destoroyah / Megaguirus 2-pack soon. I heard the King Ghidorah / Mothra set still doesn't have the end credits intact which is a major let down for me.
And it looks like I need to replace the pictures in this thread again... what a pain.
