MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 12:58 PMI could'ent make up my mind whether it would be a good idea for the old monsters like rodan, kiryu etc or should they start fresh?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 1:41 PMI would love to see some of the more 'realistic' creatures like Rodan and Anguirus make a return in a sequel, but it's most likely not going to happen. Mainstream audiences don't know who these characters are, and Toho would still charge a ton. Financially it just wouldn't be worth it.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 1:52 PMi'd prefer a clean slate with probably 1 or 2 toho monsters, if they mostly do a clean slate they can make things that will surprise g-fans and movie goers

AdminGodzillaMar-04-2014 1:56 PMIt's hard to say at this point. I think finally seeing the movie would make it easier to answer this question. Once we see how they actually handle Godzilla in the film, tone-wise, we'll be able to gauge the answer to this question better.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 3:21 PMI think they should wipe the slate clean. theres going to be a new generation of viewers , so why not a new gen of monsters. Yet on the other hand if they updated the designs of the classics that would be awesome.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 4:05 PMAfter a while, Muto will become a classic monster too. All old kaiju were knew at one point. :)

MemberBaragonMar-04-2014 4:15 PMi wish they would introduce some of these classic monsters but they wont let them create more and more new ones.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 5:40 PMClean slate. Most of the old Godzilla movies were children's movies.
I would like some serious canon to be established, much like Marvel Comics is doing.
Mecha Rodan
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-04-2014 5:59 PMI would like to have a clean slate but havesome monsters that are based off the old ones. A anguris reskin that resembles him but acts and looks slightly different. Also would like Space Godzilla and MechaGodzilla to come back.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 1:18 AMFor this movie they have wiped the slate clean, and it has been confirmed multiple times by multiple sources that this movie features no Toho monsters.
Whether they continue on after this is anyone's guess. Right now the future of the film is a big unknow. Just because it will likely do well with G fans doesn't mean it's gauranteed to be a success, so we have to be patient on that front.
However, if it does continue with sequels, I personally hope they don't use Toho monsters. None of them really have a place in this new universe that Legendary have created in my opinion. I mean I love them all, don't get me wrong, but to me this new franchise deserves a fresh new line up of monsters and enemies for Godzilla to fight. Also my opinion is that if Legendary uses Toho monsters, it's not going to be doing the originals any justice. The old Toho monsters are classics, but they have little to no longevity compared to Godzilla himself when it comes to what you can get away with and how they can be designed in any kind of modern technology.
For instance, one of Godzilla's most popular enemies is King Ghidorah. He's a badass in the original movies, but how realistic or accessible is a golden three headed Dragon in today's world with today's technology? Speaking honestly and realistically, the answer is zero. Such a monster would never pass for something realistic or grounded in reality in any way.
Mechagodzilla is a robot built to look like Godzilla, but that serves no purpose whatsoever. Designing a robot to look and move like Godzilla actually limits it from an anatomical standpoint, and a human shape like the Jaegers in Pacific Rim would suit human pilots much better. MechaG would never exist in a realistic setting either.
Spacegodzilla, not so much. Mothra is just a giant moth and that's kind of lame. Battra doesn't translate because it's an entirely fictional creature without any real world animal equivalent. Gigan is a strange space cyborg. Again, no realistic quality. Ebirah is a giant lobster, and like Mothra, kind of lame in a realistic setting. Rodan is supposedly a pterodactyl, but I don't see a long extinct dinosaur believably holding onto some form of living flesh/anatomy to allow it to radiate and grow to monstrous proportions so he's out.
Kumonga and Kamakura, possibly, as they are based on real animals that are interesting and naturally dangerous in the right species and sizes.
Anguirus could pass as an armadillo or a giant hedgehog, and as the ultimate underdog I think he and his charm could possibly at least hold something of a place in the new universe. However I still doubt they'll use him.
But as you can see, the list of Toho monsters that would feasibly pass for realistic creatures and pull it off in a way that would actually work on screen is rather slim. From a realistic standpoint, and eliminating the Godzilla Monster Line Up fanboyness that is going around from the equation and speaking plainly with logic and simple reasoning, not many of Toho's monsters would actually make it in a realistic setting like that which was created for this new movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 6:13 AMYou do make an excellent poin there TW_G-FAN2014, but people thought the idea of a reboot about a 500 foot radioactive nuclear lizard who breathes atomic energy whenever is spine lights up would be unrealistic, and look how that turned out!
You are still quite right though, even I can't imagine a way to make the old toho monsters realistic but seeing what graphic designers are capable of doing in the movie industry (pacific rim for instance) we can't dismiss the idea.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 10:50 AMI'd like to see them bring back biollante. that monster makes more sense than others.
AggressiveKaiju45
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 1:19 PMHow? Biolllante is massive I don't see how he's more plausible than the others

MemberBaragonMar-05-2014 4:13 PMbecause biollante was and is a plant type monster they could use her because raditation cand cause stuff to have an abnormal effect either killing them or like godzilla became massive plus with godzilla's regenerative cells being in the mix with plant cells that is definitly a plausible cause.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-05-2014 9:35 PMFrom what I heard, Godzilla was never going to cross over into Pacific Rim and since that won't happen, why not use a Jaeger in Godzilla since a Mecha Godzilla isn't likely? And I would still like to see a King Ghidorah.
