G-FEST XXI Info and Updates Thread

Hey folks!

If you’re like me (and I know I am!), than this time of year is the time that you start paying attention to G-FAN’s website to see how things are coming along for this year’s G-FEST! Yes, it’s THAT time of year again, and so far the events at G-FEST are looking phenomenal!!!! In case you are, for some reason, unaware of G-FEST, it is an annual convention held in Chicago that oozes, Hedorah style, with Godzilla awesomeness! It is an amazing, family oriented event that brings Godzilla fans from across the country together to enjoy film screenings, meet stars and behind the scenes personnel form the films, empty their wallets in a mind-boggling, knee-weakening dealer’s room, and enjoy other special events, like an art show, video game competitions, and an amazing costume contest and parade! If you have never gone, I HIGHLY urge you to look into this convention! If you are a regular attender like me, than you need no convincing! :)

For anyone who is curious, here’s what you can expect, so far, from this year’s convention, G-FEST XXI:

An amazing lineup of special guests, that include Terror of Mechagodzilla stars Tomoko Ai, who played cyborg Katsura, and Katsuhiko Sasaki, who played her love interest Ichinose!!!! Also look for Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, Dogora, Return of Godzilla, and Monster X Strikes Back star Yosuke Natsuki Skyping in from Japan, along with personal appearances by monster sculptor Hiroshi Sagae, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah’s M11, Robert Scott Field (a staple of the convention since the late 90’s!), and… BUMBUMBUUUUMMMM… Godzilla: Final Wars’ DON FRYE! And last but not least… Heisei series special effects director Koichi Kawakita himself!!!! How cool is that?!?!

While no films have been selected for screening yet (G-FEST traditionally screens six movies across the weekend), I wouldn’t be surprised of the original Godzilla and the new 2014 film would be on the docket! Also, we do have one special event conformed… the Ifukube and Godzilla: A Musical Celebration Kickstarter campaign was successfully funded today, reaching nearly $31,000, almost $6,000 more than their goal!!!!!!!! The live concert event, which will showcase Ifukube’s work from EVERY ONE of his Godzilla films, will take place at the Pickwick Theater, which teams with G-FEST every year for a film festival! More details are soon to follow of the specifics of this concert!

I’ll update this G-FEST page as more info comes in as we near the convention this July! It will take place from July 11^th (the film festival will start on the 10^th) through the 13^th.
