I just don't know really what to say. No its not the movie i'm annoyed with you see, its the godzilla 2014 haters. When the first batch of haters came in a week after the movie I wanted to start one of my complaints about what I think is wrong about certain people but decided to shrug the thought off and move on with my normal boring life. Only one problem. I CANT RUN AWAY FROM THE RANTERS! Every were godzilla related all I see are the most minor problems with the movie transform into a dumb big deal. I hear stuff like .....

"Oh I wanted godzilla's atomic breath to be red"

"Oh rodan wasn't in the film"

"These ****'s didn't add mothra in the film"

"Wheres the end credit scene"

"Wheres vishnu(talagan)"

"Godzilla looks fat"

"Oh brain chranstan died to early"

These are all real comments I heard around the web. And truthfully, there all stupid. Some of these problems were explained and approved a long time ago. No godzilla movie has ever been perfect, none of them will be. This film isn't perfect either. It has its pros and cons. This film doesn't deserve the bad ratings its been getting. Is the film amazing? yes. Is the film the perfect godzilla movie? no. People just need to be more like me were I wait a week or two to form and develop a complete honest and fair thought. Suprisingly the place ive seen the least of this non-sense is this fan site.

GOJIRA2014 - Don't let it bother you so! Petty complaints are little more than hot air. However, we should always take the time to listen carefully to others' opinions in order to formulate the best responses. I realize that hearing the same arguments time and again can be tiring and quite off-putting. Yet, it's always better to understand the nature of a complaint rather than pay it little or no heed. In the long run, just keep your chin up! :)

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-14-2014 12:31 PM

I agree that some of the comments made are little things, but most of the bad reviews come from stuff like

"Not enough Godzilla screne time, the movie is named after him, after all"

"After Joe Brody dies, all the characters are flat, I'm not interested in anyone"

Which are major problems in movies. While I did care about the characters, most people hated Ford Brody, I loved him. But when you aren't interested in a character, and the namesake is only in the film the last 20 minutes, then a film isn't as good as it could be. Which is what all the people are saying.

GodzillaMember5639 XPJun-14-2014 12:36 PM

NERDYBANDGEEKS - The film has done exceptionally well so far. I wouldn't worry too greatly over the detracting comments you've listed. :)

Mothra LarvaeMember2 XPJun-14-2014 1:17 PM

I don't think it's fair to lump everyone who didn't care for the movie as a hater, Godzilla 2014. Some of their complaints are completely valid.

@Something Real - The film did exceptionally well when it came out, but mediocore reviews and bad word of mouth made thta take a serious dive. The sequels are going to be of better quality if they're going to keep this up.

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-14-2014 1:50 PM

I completely agree with this. Yes, the movie is somewhat flawed and definitely had room for improvement, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that the movie was good and entertaining in its own right, which I believe it succeeded in being.

The Godzilla Box Office Updates thread is probably the worst. Nothing but whining and moaning about how Gareth Edwards "isn't the director for the movie", how it "wasn't scary", and how the movie is totally gonna fail in terms of box office sales. I'm surprised they didn't quote Tony Macklin and say that Edwards "channels poppy****".

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-14-2014 4:25 PM

My only issue with the movie is that the trailers showed something completely different. They advertised Godzilla as the bad guy destroying everything, with Bryan Cranston in the middle as the main protagonist. That isn't at all what happened. I did love the movie, just the trailers were misleading.

Mothra LarvaeMember2 XPJun-14-2014 6:00 PM

That is an excellent point that I never see get brought up. The trailers portray Godzilla as an unstoppable, antagonistic force and Bryan Cranston's character as the lead. The only lines ATJ's character ever had in the trailers was "Can we kill it?" and "A monster".

GodzillaMember5639 XPJun-14-2014 6:33 PM

DURATOK - Would you agree that Godzilla is, overall, a success with regards to how well it's done? I did see a great drop-off after the initial wave of movie-goers had their shot at the film. However, I've also seen that the film is making quite a bit of revinue across the globe. The last time I had a look at the box-office takes, Godzilla had nearly earned $400 million worldwide. I'm certainly no economist or movie guru, but I'd say that's quite a nice take; and a nice take means we can expect to see more Godzilla in the future! :)

I happen to agree with you that not everyone should be lumped into a "haters" group. Indeed, I find that many of the cocerns and arguments revolving around Godzilla are quite valid and should be viewed for what they are: desires for future iterations of the franchise to be more in tune with what fans would like. As for the movie not delivering what the trailers implied: you're absolutely right. The trailers billed Godzilla as a punishment for Mankind - as did Edwards himself! However, that with which we were presented was anything but a self-inflicted cataclysm. Godzilla was practically humanity's protector throughout the film! I'm not saying I didn't like the film. Quite the contrary, I very much enjoyed it. However, it simply wasn't what we were led to believe it was going to be. In the end, I believe that every film requires both good and bad reception in order to become stronger as a whole with relation to future installations. Thank you ever so much for the interesting conversation! :)

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-14-2014 10:44 PM

Rants expressing hatred or disinterest are born 95% of the time from ignorance and 5% of the time from pure and unbridled stupidity.

If anyone out there is seriously, and I mean seriously ranting about Rodan or Mothra not being in the film, then they are just plain stupid. Legendary had announced months in advance that there would be no Toho monsters other than Godzilla. If they honestly expected Rodan and Mothra, then they're just stupid.

If they expected his atomic breath to be red, then they are either only familiar with Godzilla 2000 or they honestly are dumb enough to believe that his atomic breath was originally red.

When it comes to Godzilla's girth, I tend to agree that he was a little bit on the chubby side this time around depending on the angle of the camera. I think it could have been fixed entirely by just trimming him down from 90,000 tons to 80,000 tons and losing just a little bit around the waist, but otherwise I think the design as a whole was perfect. Anyone who's unhappy with it just doesn't know how to appreciate the concept of modernization and the idea that he was remiagined by someone who is not originally from Toho.

Vishnu/Talaghan are both fan names for the unnamed red centipede monster which was only a concept piece that was never actually given a true name. To this day, it has no name save for the two which the fans gave it. It's just a nameless centipede/beetle thing that was charred by Godzilla. Nothing more. If they seriously expected "Vishnu/Talaghan," then I'll say it again loud and proud that they're just stupid.

There never was an end credit scene. Edwards announced that in an interview for all to see. If they can't find it then they just don't know how to use the internet which is something of a travesty in what we call the technological age that we live in today. Stupidity.

All in all, I think all true Godzilla fans will agree that this movie was amazing. Yes it had its faults, but it's a movie created by a human being. Humans are flawed, and one human's opinion will always differ from anothers no matter how similar they might be. Expecting perfection, their version of perfection, from someone who isn't them is just plain stupid. I don't like calling people stupid, but the sad fact is that there are very stupid people out there and those who are complaining about the movie and such elements as those listed in this topic are definitely stupid.

Everything they complained about was basically broadcast loud and proud for all to hear if you knew how to pay attention and read between the lines in the trailers. Even Cranston's death was obvious to those who knew how to pay attention. But sadly, stupidity is real, and it's out there in droves.

Something Real

GodzillaMember5639 XPJun-14-2014 11:35 PM

TW_G-FAN2014 - I wouldn't necessarily throw the word "stupid" about so flagrantly. "Misinformed", "overzealous" or "over-critical" might be better. With that in mind, not every argument against the film is the product of any of the aforementioned words (including the one you chose) being applied to movie-goers. There are a few very legitimate concerns surrounding Godzilla. Of course, I greatly enjoyed the film, and you're very right - people will always differ in opinion with regards to how a movie should be made. Regardless, I feel that it might be just a bit too strong to say that all criticism regarding Edwards' Godzilla is unwarrented. :)

BaragonMember425 XPJun-15-2014 4:21 AM

Wait to weeks to form an opinion? Sorry I may be mistaken but weren't you one of the people saying this would be your favorite Godzilla movie months prior to the movies release?

Hm..... anyway onto the subject I don't see any problem with most of those rants. Maybe they found all those things to be big flaws, maybe they were expecting more. Bryan Cranston dying too early is a very valid point against the movie, especially due to the trailers consisting 90% of his dialogues throughout the movie. I seriously thing I heard almost every speech he gave in the movie before he died from the trailers. Maybe they though Rodan or Mothra would have been better opponents than the Mutos. As for the Vishnu I blame fans for that hype. We're the ones who kept bringing him up and drawing full body protaits from seeing some of it's dead carcass in a teaser made before the story was even done that one is 100% on the fans in my opinion building up a monster to the point people actually wanted to see it even though there was seriously no chance of it being in the actual movie.

Are those small things to rant about? Sure, and some are largely opinion based but so is everything in relation to this movie. Some people can sing on mountaintops the praise and how well they think this movie did while others can rant and rave about any subject they think is slightly off or not exactly to their liking.

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-15-2014 6:45 AM

So basically what we are saying here is you should only have an opinion if that opinion agrees with your opinion? Is that it? Or maybe we have to make comments chosen from a carefully crafted list of comments which will serve not to offend your sensibilities? You know what I'm tired of? People's feelings being hurt because so many people weren't thrilled with this movie, or thought it could be different. So we have people tossing around words like "butthurt fanboys," "stupid," and "haters." Who are you that makes your opinion of this mediocre film more credible than the rest of us? Do you walk around with your laminated "I'm a better fan than you" Godzilla card? I'm glad some of you really enjoyed this film. I wish I could. But you know what, many of us expected more. This film goes out of it's way to annoy the veiwer. It's an insult. If saying that makes me a hater, than I guess that's what I am. But I would add that I think some of you are suffering from a case of low expectations.

There may not be any Godzilla movies with better effects than this movie, but there are better GODZILLA movies than this one. More interesting stories, better character, more heartfelt moments, and MORE GODZILLA!

But I digress....Sure, there are comments I read as well that seem nitpicky, or out of left field. I may be guilty myself? But you know what? They are in comments sections? You know, where people are free to comment. If you don't like it, start a site where everyone thinks like you. Then you can be happy, no?

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-15-2014 8:22 AM

THEPIKE - I wouldn't say only have an opinion if that opinion agrees with my opinion. I personally was trying to say those are small things to rant about. "nitpicky" as you put it. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, but saying something like "Mothra wasn't in the movie! This movie is the worst movie ever!" Or making a big deal out of something so small. You are right in that everyone has a right to comment and speak their mind. And I respect your opinion in that there are better Godzilla movies. Personally my favorite is the Godzilla vs Destroyah. You are also correct in saying people are making a big deal of the "butthurt fanboys." While I liked the movie, I don't expect everyone to. Ya know?

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-15-2014 11:31 AM

@NERDYBANDGEEKS-Godzilla vs. Destroyah is the best!

^That comment strikes me as moderately amusing since I consider the new film to have some of the same issues as Godzilla vs. Destroyah.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-15-2014 2:11 PM

GMAN- Such as what? Just curious.

GiganModerator3811 XPJun-15-2014 7:37 PMTeam Godzilla

Most haters dont understand what they were going for with this movie. It wasnt meant to be just a smash and bash with very little and story and cheesy characters! I think the idea of waiting and putting Godzilla at a later time is just really perfect. Think about it in the old movies you knew he was coming in like 5 minutes. But in this one we got Serizawa saying awesome stuff and a force of nature. and we see the destruction the mutos are causing then!... the tsunami comes and Godzilla rises and then its just so awesome. And every seen with him in it is perfect and they made it perfect for a sequel.

Good grief.

GiganModerator3811 XPJun-15-2014 7:40 PMTeam Godzilla

This to me is by far the best and most realistic Godzilla movie. Here is something to switch you to my side. If your a grown up your gonna like G 14. If your a baby your gonna LOVE GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER, "Not saying that one wasnt great."

Good grief.

BaragonMember425 XPJun-15-2014 11:52 PM

Liking a movie has nothing to do with maturity or age. This movie wasn't so complex you need to be an adult to understand it, actually storywise I think this is on the more simple side, and the characters weren't so complex a child wouldn't understand their motivations, or reasoning.

G. H. (Gman)

GodzillaAdmin5334 XPJun-16-2014 1:28 AMTeam Ghidorah

Actresses set up as strong female characters with absolutely nothing to do during the third act but watch the mayhem. (Elle Brody and Yukari Yamane)

Notably interesting characters/actors being introduced and then dropped before the second act. (Joe Brody and Emiko Yamane) Although this was a handled better in Godzilla '14 since Joe actually contributed to the plot momentum.

Scientists being used as expositional pieces to explain the monsters and then dropped with nothing to do by the third act. (Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Ijuin) It's slightly better in Godzilla vs. Destroyah, but only because Ijuin came up with a left field, deus ex machina to minimize Godzilla's meltdown.

There are other comparisons, but they escape me at the moment. I truly adore both movies, I just think they're both equally middle-of-the-road films than representations of the best or worst of the series.

"'Nostalgic' does not equal 'good,' and 'standards' does not equal 'elitism.'" "Being offended is inevitable. Living offended is your choice."

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-16-2014 5:50 AM

Gman-All fair comparisons. But what cannot be compared is the Godzilla action, which is the major problem with G2014. Gvs.D starts with Godzilla rampaging through China, and by the time you get to the end you've had plenty of monster action with two major fights. Godzilla meltdown threatens to destroy the earth. Junior is used as bait and is killed, which is a tragic moment. Godzilla shows despair at the loss. This can be mirrored somewhat by the loss of the MUTOS brood, but they are supposed to be the villians, so that is a desired result. Godzilla's meltdown is again a heavy moment that I'm sure has made more than a few G fans well up with tears. And then the revival and mutation of junior, the birth of one Godzilla through the death of another. And let's not forget that Destroyah...a truly terrifying, demonic looking monster. A sharp contrast to the somewhat mundane MUTOS.

What do we get from G14? Godzilla shows up at the end. Briefly fights, and leaves. That's it. Done. A nice decapitation I suppose, but aside from that, we never really lock in on the action. It comes quickly and ends just the same.

So while you make good points, I feel you're pointing in the wrong direction. I could have lived with the mediocre story of G14 if the action was better. It wasn't. In Gvs.D, it is much better.

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-16-2014 6:19 AM

GorillaGodzilla77897-I'm an adult who saw this and says it's mediocre. Most of the other adults I know who have seen this movie think it's mediocre. Most of the children I know who have seen this movie think that it's mediocre. It's not because we didn't "get" what the filmakers were trying to do. It's because what the filmakers made was VERY MEDIOCRE. I'm beginning to think that there are some people out there who are just easily pleased and don't really expect all that much from these movies. I do. The human action was not all that interesting or clever and the Godzila action was barely there. That's a failure on two fronts. This movie has great effects and they didn't blow Godzilla's design. That's it. That's what they got right, and in 2014 and the budget they had, that should not be considered a no brainer.

"But in this one we got Serizawa saying awesome stuff and a force of nature..."

I mean, this is an asset? Serizawa is saying awesome stuff!?

I usually like to keep my comments civil, but really, you can't be serious.....

Mothra LarvaeMember5 XPJun-16-2014 6:27 AM

Gman-Please excuse my sloppy writing in my response to you. It's been quite the morning...

Gojira 2014

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-16-2014 7:28 AM

Durp004@ Wha...what? I never said godzilla 2014 wasn't my favorite movie. Godzilla 2014 is actually one of the greatest godzilla expeirences of my child hood.

Now please some of you seem misunderstood. I'm not specificly slamming the ranters.......kinda. I'm mainly talking about WHAT there ranting about. Just for the sake of a (mr.I don't remember your name)'s question. How does godzilla vs destroya and G-2014 share the same problems. hmmmm this is actually a tough one o_____o.  Well both godzilla's are bulky right...heh. OK FINE YOU WIN!. But I like G-2014 better cause it takes a more realistic aproach. Godzilla vs destroyah is just TOO supernatural. Thats all I got for that.

Yes I understand we all have our own concerns and opionins(spelled it wrong). But please understand i'm not trying to make clones of me our anything, but i'm just pointing out whats a litle tiny bit dumb to count as a flaw for this movie.  (I suck at spelling) I close out with this......the godzilla movie that cares about both humans and monsters...focuses on the theme of the original gojira.....and at least tries to make good human characters is the best gojira movie. Just because a gojira movie doesn't have "More" gojira and cheesy super natural slap fights doesn't mean its not a good one. Story is much stronger then just sitting in a boxing match watching godzilla and the bad guy duke it out...in my opinion that is.
