how to include Gigan into the monsterverse
KaijuBuildz
MemberTitanosaurusApr-05-2018 10:40 PMGigan is one of the most requested kaiju to appear in the monsterverse, but I always thought it wouldn’t make much sense to put an alien cyborg in a grounded universe. But more recently my opinions have changed on this subject. This forum will explain what I think could be a great way to introduce Gigan in a grounded universe such as the monsterverse.
Recently I had a conversation on my other forum for Mechagodzilla about aliens joining the monsterverse with Mechagodzilla. I suggested that aliens would take Mechagodzilla, King Ghidorah, and the male Muto into space and transform them to be alien weapons. Mechagodzilla would just get some extra weapons (probably inspired by the Showa Mechagodzilla). King Ghidorah would get turned into Mecha-King Ghidorah. And the male Muto would turn into GIGAN.
Now that might seem very farfetched, but that is what I think is the best and most believable way to introduce Gigan into a realistic setting. Here are some physical elements that the male Muto and Gigan have in common.
- The big red eye
- Hook-like hands
- A beak (sort of)
- The ability to fly
- A place for the buzzsaw in the chest (the place where the male Muto got stabbed in 2014)
- same colors as the 2004 Gigan
Now that might not be many similarities, but with some upgrades, it might work. Now I will list some upgrades to make the male Muto truly look like Gigan. each of the upgrades will have a reason behind it.
Btw, the aliens could also use some body parts from the female Muto to make some of these things possible (like the stronger legs).
- Metal spikes on the head (antenna for the alien controls)
- Metal beak and 2 claws around the mouth area (used for biting attack)
- Metal Hooks (stronger and more painful version of the standard Muto hooks)
- Make him stand upright (used so he can use his hooks better)
- Shorter/stronger legs (used to stand upright)
- Metal tail (used to stand upright)
- Higher pitched Muto roar (to sound like Gigan's roar)
- Metal feet (used for standing upright and to have a better balance)
- Buzzsaw in the chest (used for up close attack)
- Eye laser (used for long-range attack)
- Smaller Wings and fins on his back (to more look like Gigan and so he can glide instead of flying)
I do think that each monster that gets up ducted by the aliens, would be controlled by the aliens remotely. this would give each monster (robot or not) to have their own personality. I do want the alien that controllers Gigan to have the same personality as Gigan from the Showa/millennium series. That way Gigan will still get his personality. I want him to be very violent, but a coward and overconfident. At some point I want Gigan to try and flee when the battle turns against him and fail.
This version of Gigan would be pretty short (about 80 meters), but he could be agiler this way.
This is the end of this forum. yes I know it was very short, but I don’t have anything else to say here. I might make a forum for aliens in the monsterverse by themselves. If you have any theories for Gigan in the monsterverse, please leave it in the comment section. Any opinion is welcome.
note: sorry for the small text at some point, but I don't know how to fix that.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-06-2018 10:01 AMThis is a fun idea, my only concern would be that this version of Gigan would be super small compared to Godzilla and crew.
Isnt the male MUTO around 250ft tall? Compared to Godzilla at 350ft tall? Despite the upgrades I still wouldn't see this Gigan much of a threat to a monster towering over them. But still wouldn't mind this idea of Gigan forming. Cool idea.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-06-2018 10:07 AMThat is truly one of the biggest (no pun intended) problems for this idea to work. Just like I said, I think they could use the female muto too seeing as she is about 300 ft/90 meters tall. They could also be a bit more Frankenstein and use different body parts from both muto. That’s just a wild guess though.
also the height might change seeing as I want gigan to stand upright.

MemberBaragonApr-06-2018 10:22 AMJust simply make Gigan a larger subspecies of MUTO that was turned into a cyborg.
Godzilla Generations was a beautiful game! I loved the fact that there's a laser cannon inside of Dr. Serizawa's eyepatch.
riggzamortis86
MemberTitanosaurusApr-06-2018 10:26 AM^well that would possibly solve the issue of height. The point is that the origin of Gigan would be from the male MUTO from G14. He is still intact and the wounds on his body would go great with the idea of a Gigan hybrid. If we just through in any other different kind of MUTO, it might not captivate us as much.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-07-2018 6:08 AMsmall update
I have tried to make a possible design for the male Muto as Gigan with the upgrades I named in the forum. I am not very good at designing digitally myself, but this is the best I could do. What do you guys think?

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-08-2018 12:17 PMHe's an alien creature made into a cyborg. No need for a revamp. It's to me more believable than the MUTO thing.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-09-2018 7:29 AMthereal9thdoctor
they could do that. but the thing is that if Gigan is just another space monster, it would not have the same feeling to it. if the male Muto ends up being Gigan, it would be the first time we would have seen Gigan before he gets turned into a cyborg. with my idea of male Muto being Gigan, it would be a version of Gigan we have never seen before.
why would an alien monster even be more believable than the Muto idea? the Muto we already knew from 2014 movie doesn't need an explanation, whilst a new monster for Gigan would need an entire backstory that could take away some other important time from the movie.
if Giga appears in the last movie of the monsterverse, it would all come full circle seeing as the Muto was the first villain of the monsterverse and will be one of the last.
btw thanks to riggzamortis86 and The Jurassic Bootleg for the positive feedback.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-09-2018 8:54 AMIt would be cool to see a Gigan with a backstory in this Universe. and I would not shy away from a concept like this. If only the size of the beast could be heightened and explained I would back this story.
Maybe the Male Muto was not done growing? perhaps the male MUTO was still in its infancy? A still maturing male MUTO that still needed to grow to be more of an Adult? IDk. Im sure there are a bunch of holes in that one. Just throwing out ideas.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-09-2018 9:29 AMthey could do that. maybe the Muto's have some biological system that the still age even though its dead. another option is if the upgrades make him "look" taller.
for example, the spike on his head could be around 7 meters tall. the fact that he stands upright might ad around 8 meters of height and the feet can get a few meters taller as well. this would mean that Gigan would be around 80 meters tall or something.
btw, Gigan doesn't necessarily need to fight Godzilla. maybe he could fight Rodan, Mothra or Anguirus seeing as I think those monsters would be around the same height/smaller as Gigan.
Long live the king...
riggzamortis86
MemberTitanosaurusApr-09-2018 2:13 PMThat's true, he doesn't have to fight Godzilla. It would be cool to see Rodan and Gigan in the same frame for once.
Maybe the MUTO's have a similar system where when the female dies, the male changes its sex in order to accommodate making eggs, making the male MUTO grow along with having the wings. That would be a game changer.

MemberBaragonApr-09-2018 3:04 PMYou know what would be cool and controversial? if Gigan in the MonsterVerse is a rare variant of MUTO instead of a cyborg?

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 3:11 AMbut isn't Gigan being a cyborg the thing that makes Gigan so unique? only mecha-king Ghidorah shares the idea and he was only in 1 movie. if they remove the cyborg part from Gigan, it would make him just another Muto.
the male Muto just makes a lot more sense to me. his body is intact and the wounds give the possibility of mechanical parts (especially the chest saw).
about the idea of the male Muto to change gender and grow. I actually really like that idea of the male Muto evolving like that. it makes sense too and I can definitely believe that as a just a person that likes movies. the only question is if this workes when the Muto is dead.
Muto's are said to have a biological system that we don't even understand. this also gives Gigan the stronger legs to stay upright.
+ with the cybernetic upgrades, Gigan would be around Godzilla's size.

riggzamortis86
MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 5:58 AM^Im saying if we are going into Alien cyborg technology theories here, if the Alien or whatever terrestrial being somehow collects the Male Muto and looks into its biology, perhaps they would discover this trait and somehow "activate" or "enhance" the process making the male Muto even larger by forcing its sex to change into female.
So even if the male muto is dead, and they perform an alien Frankenstein on this male Muto, they might (somehow, Im not sure here Im just spit balling) be able to "trigger" this change in its sex and make the first ever female Gigan. That is my theory on how to make MUTO into Gigan, and big enough to be a threat to even Godzilla.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 7:46 AMIf Gigan is going to turn into a female Kaiju, than I do not want him to look fully like a female muto. For example I don’t want Gigan to have 6 legs. If the male muto just gets some elements from the female muto (probably her size and her stronger legs) than I would be fine with that.
btw, I do really like that very detailed concept art for muto Gigan. Wasn’t there one of rodan as well?

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 8:10 AMLike I said, he would still have the wings since he was born with them? Since its still part cyborg maybe we can take some liberties here.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 10:36 AMThought I would let you guys know that I will be doing more of these “how to include into the monsterverse” forums. I have a lot of fun making them and talking about them with other Godzilla fans.
I was wondering what Kaiju you guys would like to see me tackle in one of these. For as of right now the next one will likely be one of my favourite Kaiju in the series “the king of Okinawa” king Caesar.
Btw, the Kaiju that you want to see me tackle next do have to be a bit more difficult to explain in a grounded universe. For example Anguirus, Varan, Baragon, Gorosaurus, destroyah, etc already kind of fit in a grounded universe. Give me a challenge like Gigan or MechaGodzilla.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 12:34 PMAwe come on! haha, That's like half the ones I would love to see!
Biollante is a great one. So far there is a female monster in the first 2 Godzilla movies. The female MUTO and Mothra in 2019. So it would be neat to see another female monster in say GvK. Or if there will be more monsterverse after 2020, maybe room for Biollante.
I always thought it would be cool to see Ebirah in GvK. In K:SI we see Skull Island surrounded by a thick storm. It would be neat if Ebirah or a group of Ebirah's lurked in the ocean below the storm. Say if Godzilla or Kong were to try to go through the storm to get to one and other to fight they would have to go through a swarm of Ebirah's or a singular Ebirah. It might explain why Kong never was able to leave the island?

MemberTitanosaurusApr-10-2018 12:53 PMAh biollante, going from one of the oddest Kaiju to one of the best. I could definitely make a topic about her. She is such an interesting monster and could definitely work in the monsterverse.
ebirah would be nic as well. I do think ebirah would be more of a cameo than a main villain, but it would be a nice inclusion.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-11-2018 6:10 AMTrue, Ebirah cant carry a film of this magnitude by himself. I was more trying to suggestion on having Ebirah in the movie as a way to show off Kongs strength without Godzilla being present or vise versa.
Depending on the plot, whether Godzilla is trying to get to Skull Island or Kong is trying to leave skull island, Ebirah would be a fun way to demonstrate to the audience a sample of Godzilla's or Kongs strength without having to fight each other yet. I think it would be great to see Kong fight Ebirah for 2 reasons.
1)Ebirah, Horror of the Deep(1966) was supposed to be a King Kong movie. Without going into too much info on why Kong wasn't in it, Godzilla shares some of his characteristics to Kong in the film and in the plot. One example is the scene where he meets Daiyo and is very protective of her. As we all know Godzilla has never really went out of his way to do such a thing. But Kong is a sucker for the ladies. Plus the fact that he is sleeping in a cave rather than underwater. Godzilla does seem out of place in that scene. Why or how does Godzilla want to sleep in a cave when he has an entire ocean to slumber in? Kong loves caves and would make sense that Kong would be sleeping in cave. One can argue the way the characters woke him up with lightening? Something that was established back in KKvG that Kong gains strength from?
I bring this up only because it was supposed to be King Kong fighting Ebirah and dismantling the Red Bamboo(which by the way have a similar theme of abducting native people from Infant Island, their home, and making them perform tasks to enrich the terrorist organization? Something Kong is familiar with). So seeing King Kong fight Ebirah now that Kong is like 300 sum feet tall would look awesome and a wink to fans who might get the reference.
2) It would explain why Kong never wanted to leave Skull Island. If there where giant sea monsters in the ocean under a blanket of tropical storms, that would make sense as to why all those ships always wrecked as well. Maybe Kong was always trapped on the island. But never has a Kong reached its full maturity and size thanks to Kong making the skull crawlers extinct. Allowing Kong to grow and grow. Then reaching his peak size, he can confront the Ebirah surrounding the island and without Godzilla even being present in the scene, we would see Kong's new strength. It would be a slightly brief cameo only to show the audience how strong Kong has become over the past 4 decades. To get the audience pumped before we even see the main event.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-11-2018 6:24 AMThey probably don’t even need to by the rights to ebirah as well. It can always be just a giant lobster and fans can make it be whatever they want it to be. I had this exact thing with skull island where I thought the giant spider in the movie was kumomga. When I looked it up it ended up not being him but still.
it would be way cooler though if it was the real ebirah instead of something similar.
Long live the king...

MemberTitanosaurusApr-11-2018 9:41 AMK:SI still had that octopus in the lake scene where Kong was nursing his wounds and a giant octopus try and attack him and Kong just STOMPED it out and then ate the octopus!
If that's not a call back to KKvG, I don't know what is. I even think the staff and crew ate that octopus after the take! Brutal! I never ate a giant monster movie star before! But I would give it a try. Just to say I did that.
But my point is that your right on the rights to an Ebirah cameo. Any giant crustacean fighting Kong would satisfy any fan I'm sure.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-11-2018 8:27 PMDon't know if I said it on another forum, but to sum it up, Gigan's origin in Final Wars seems more plausible (believable) than using the male MUTO's body to become him.
riggzamortis86
MemberTitanosaurusApr-12-2018 6:38 AMBut King Ghidorah will be having a similar origin in G:KOTM. He has been frozen under the ground, according to Monarchs timeline.
To have Gigan have the same thing happen wont seem original or authentic enough in my opinion. To give Gigan an origin story that already is close to its source material from the Showa series would be more believable IF we are including aliens. Gigan is a cyborg from some strange space dinosaur of some kind turned into the monster we know today. To see Gigan in this monsterverse as a revitalized MUTO would bring a closure to the MUTO saga.
To simply reuse an orgin story from a poorly thought out Godzilla movie from the early millennium would seem like a cop out if Gigan would to return.

Funny you mention what you are saying about King Ghidorah, and yet, it makes me think they are just repeating how he (King Ghidorah) got revealed in GMK.
riggzamortis86
MemberTitanosaurusApr-13-2018 8:18 AMButs its already set up that King Ghidorah is frozen out there underground (far according to the Monarch Timeline). To have another monster, this time with cyborg characteristics, under the ground again somewhere else would cause more plot holes and questions of its origins.
I agree with you MinecraftDinoKaiju that the whole monster under the ground idea is over done in this movie genre. I just think they can be a little more creative IF they were to ever introduce Gigan into the monsterverse.
