So after Godzilla 2014, Gareth didn't want a post-credits scene because he wanted to film to almost stand by itself and also incase their wasn't going to be a Sequel, but now that there is, won't there be a little nod as to how the third installment will go. Maybe there won't be, because that scene might feature in  Skull Island, but I think it will be good to have an ending scene which clarifies the situation.

Remember that chap, I forget his name, he climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. They asked him, they said, "Why did you go up there to die?" He said, "I didn't, I went up there to live."

I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be no end credits sequence for Godzilla 2.  Most likely, the film will end "Empire Strikes Back"/"Matrix Reloded"/"Pirates 2" style, with a cliffhanger that amps us up for "Godzilla vs Kong".  "Godzilla" (2014) has a lot in common with those franchises, in that they started with a film that functioned perfectly as stand alone experiences, but could be (and were) expanded upon with sequels.  There are a ton of examples of films/series like this, and none of those films (minus Pirates 2's little stinger) ended with Marvel-style post credit sequences that hinted at future stories.

But thats just my theory. ;)

Although Marvel didn't come up with the mid-credits/post-credits scene idea, most audience members seem to associate them with Marvel. It might make Godzilla look like its riding on the waves of their success. (Which, in a sense, they are with the whole crossover idea.) I'm split on the subject. I like those kind of things, but they work better for more "fun" movies than films trying to be serious.

On the other hand it wouldn't be the first time a Godzilla film had a post-credits scene. It would actually be the fourth time I believe.

I agree, I can see Skull Island and/or Godzilla 2 ending with a cliffhanger, but probably not a post-credits scene. Though I wouldn't be opposed to one if they did decide to go that route. Marvel popularized that tradition, but they didn't create it.

Most likely the cliffhanger will be different for both movies, Godzilla 2 and Kong: Skull Island. Godzilla 2's post credit scene will most likely tease the Godzilla vs Kong movie. While Kong: Skull Island will tease Godzilla 2.

We're stuck with Gareth for the next movie, and he's been vocal about disliking post-credit stingers.

For the past 30 years everytime characters cross over on screen with big time movies there is usually an after credit shot to show them meeting up. This goes all the way back to Jason Goes to Hell when the final aftercredit scene has Freddy's glove reaching up for his mask.

Predator two did it the best way with a subtle shot of the Xenomorph skull in the trophy case, and something similar to that would be nice, rather than a scene that spells out a cross over and that the characters share a universe.
