Godzilla vs. Kong 2: Official Plot Synopsis and 2024 Release Date!

An official plot synopsis has finally been released for Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong sequel! Legendary have put out the following breakdown of the film's new direction - confirming both Kong and Godzilla will return and will have to defend themselves and making against a new threat! The plot outline does mention that this new threat is from within our world - likely ruling out any Alien Monster possibilities (sorry Gigan fans). Read the official plot synopsis below:

Coming off the global success of 2021’s “Godzilla vs Kong” cameras are now rolling on the latest entry in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse. This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Wingard is directing the currently untitled project from a script by Terry Rossio (“Godzilla vs. Kong” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series), Jeremy Slater (“Moon Knight”) and Simon Barrett (“You’re Next”). The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric Mcleod, Brian Rogers, Thomas Tull, and Jon Jashni, with executive producers Josh Grode, Adam Wingard, Jay Ashenfelter, Jen Conroy, Kenji Okuhira and Yoshimitsu Banno.

Once again, Wingard is collaborating with director of photography Ben Seresin (“Godzilla vs. Kong” “World War Z”), production designer Tom Hammock (“Godzilla vs. Kong” “X” “The Guest”), editor Josh Schaeffer (“Godzilla vs. Kong” “Molly’s Game”), and composer Tom Holkenborg (“Godzilla vs. Kong” “Mad Max: Fury Road”), who are now joined by costume designer Emily Seresin (“The Invisible Man” “Top of the Lake”), makeup artist Sabrina Wilson (“Captain Marvel” “The Suicide Squad” “The Book of Bobba Fett”), hairstylist Gloria Pasqua Casny (“The Tomorrow War” “Ford vs Ferrari”), and VFX supervisor Alessandro Ongaro (“The Adam Project” “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”).

Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is slated for a March 15, 2024, worldwide release from Warner Bros. Pictures except in Japan where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd and in mainland China where it will be distributed by Legendary East.

What do you think the new threat could be? Sound off your best guesses in the comments below!

A huge percentage of it seems to be good.
What i think he is trying to say is "Out of all of the crap im seeing here, that is the one to fix it all".
Since Tom Holkenborg is a composer for movies that has 7 wins and 27 nominations for awards and worked for mad max fury road

If it's being implied that they are going to work together, shouldn't the film be called "Godzilla and Kong" instead of vs? Also, will Kong have his axe?

Biollante?  in one of the Godzilla Books Biollante was from inside the Earth  Godzilla at worlds End by Marc Cerasini.  Could also be an Older "evil" Godzilla.  There's only been a few Monsters Larger than Godzilla  Ghidorah, Space Godzilla, Biollante, and Destroyah. It could be Destroyah with just a different origin

Considering how much hate Gman throws at the MonsterVerse and Godzilla vs Kong (specifically Tom Holkenborg's score), I doubt that anything in that comment was positive...

"Godzilla vs Kong 2" probably won't be the actual title of the movie, it's just a placeholder.

What really peeks my interest is the mentioning of a “colossal, undiscovered threat hidden within our world.” What do you think this could mean? Will Godzilla and Kong team up against a monster that predates all of the Titans? Maybe it’ll be that flying Godzilla-like monster from the GVK artbook?

Why aren't y'all happy with the composer, i know its not your japanese original Godzilla one but really i believe its because we are used to the original soundtrack + G. H. (Gman) is a sucker for Japanese Godzilla like showa

I'm also fine with the composer. GvK's soundtrack may not have been the most memorable in the MonsterVerse (especially when compared to the soundtrack from KOTM), however it was still pretty solid for the most part.

Nascar,
It really has nothing to do with whether or not they use Ifukube's themes. Michiru Oshima and Reijiro Koroku didn't use Ifukube's themes and they produced some of the best scores in the franchise.

Thing is, there used to be a day where I could concede that no matter the quality of the movie, every Godzilla film had a great to, at bare minimum, very interesting sonic template with strong motifs--Some experimental, some traditional, all worth listening to by classically trained, engaging musicians.

It's incredibly infuriating and insulting that such great talents like Reijiro Koroku, Koh Otani, Alexandre Desplat, Shiro Sagisu and Bear McCreary each only got to score one Godzilla movie, but a sound engineer, who became yet another off-brand Hans Zimmer clone, now gets to add his stain to two titles in the franchise.

But whatever. I'm checked out of Legendary's contributions at this point anyway.

Is there anything positive you have to say about this sequel? Yes, I believe Bear McCreary should come back but Junkie XL has made good scores before, even if GVK had a bit of a mid score.  I genuinely think this movie will be like the first, stupid but really entertaining and fun.  I think Legendary may have learned the wrong lessons from GVK, but if it's a simply entertaining experience like the last one, I'm all for it.

Also yes I'm back.  Stop arguing guys.
