Godzilla against MechaGodzilla celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. In honor of the two decade young film, Fathom Events gave it a special one night screening in U.S. theaters.
With only one showing across 727 theaters, the film pulled an estimated $335,000 in a single night. While that doesn't sound like much, it's not bad for a film that only had a single showing and no major advertising. The movie reached #5 at the box office last Thursday, November 3rd. The Godzilla film was Fathom Events' 19th highest grossing release.
The Godzilla vs. Hedorah short, from 2021, and an accompanying behind-the-scenes featurette played before the headlining movie. The MechaGodzilla feature was shown in its original Japanese language, subtitled in English.
Hopefully these box office results will encourage both Fathom Events and Toho to screen another film in the U.S. next year!
