AdminSpaceGodzillaAug-02-2013 9:08 PMAs the forum topic title suggests, I want to know which of Godzilla's trademark characteristics you think are crucial and must be included in the new Godzilla 2014 movie. But - better yet, I want you to narrow down your choices to Godzilla top 3 characteristics / features. What 3 Godzilla features / characteristics MUST be included in Godzilla (2014)?
These can range from his iconic, atomic breathe, to his iconic roar, or his indestructibility, or his regeneration abilities. Big G has a fair number of iconic trademark features, so I expect narrowing down the 3 most important ones will be a bit of a task for some of you hard core Godzilla fanatics out there. I know I'm having trouble thinking up 3.

I won't post my 3 just yet, as I'll need to think more about it. But I'd love to hear what you all would choose.
So post your opinions below - what are Godzilla's 3 most important features / characteristics you think NEED to be included in Gareth Edwards' reboot?

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-02-2013 10:27 PMThis is a very tough question. From what we've seen from the leak, it looks similar to regular Godzilla. Let me see.
The Dark, scaly texture.
Long plates that, when using the atomic breath, are turned red.
Slow, lumberyness. Slow moving legs, and a slight rise in his step as he walks.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-02-2013 11:33 PMIt is a tough question, but
1- Atomic breath (blue preferably)
2- Indestructibility (does not die from missiles)
3- The iconic roar

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 12:09 AMFrom all the info, leaks, and rumors they got everything right. In terms of non-confirmed stuff I want:
1) His King of the Monsters title to hold up (he should kick a lot of monster ass and should be given powerful as hell enemies)
2) His healing factor/indestructability
3) His long, glowing spikes for his atomic breath. Also I know Gareth wants realism but his atomic breath should at least be just as deadly.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 10:23 AMI think what this Godzilla needs more than any of those things right now is the support of WB ....or else this movie is gonna sink like a rock in the ocean...

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 12:08 PM1. Atomic Breath
2. Indestructibility to ordinary man-made weaponry (missiles, bombs, etc.)
3. His famous roar
to me those are the 3 most important, it's what makes Godzilla Godzilla aside from his size and look.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 12:09 PMMy top 3 are easy.
1. Iconic Roar (preferably similar to 1954 and 1985)
2. Blue Atomic Breath
3. Indestructibility

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 12:17 PMSo many, but hard to pick up just 3....
The person above listed the same things, so I'm just basically repeating.
Indestructibility! Blue atomic/nuclear breath! His famous roar.
Would also like to see.... up right stance, back plates (with multiple points on each plate, not just single spikes), his "tree bark" skin texture.
Not that we as fans are fussy or anything... LOL

AdminSpaceGodzillaAug-03-2013 12:25 PMFor me, my top 3 are:
1. Atomic Breath - regardless of "realism", Godzilla's atomic breath is one of Godzilla's trademark characteristics, and should not be overlooked or "explained" in a way that makes sense by today's standards. Godzilla can't be completely understood, so let certain things just "be".
2. Iconic Roar - specifically reminiscent of the 1954 original Godzilla roars - they were lower, more intimidating and made Godzilla "sound" bigger. None of this high-pitched noise we've heard in some of the sequels.
3. His indestructibility - You can't kill Godzilla. At best you can freeze him, but Tanks, Missiles, Jets are all ineffective against him - so I hope to God(zilla) that there's no repeat of 1998's Zilla take-down. Godzilla is meant to represent an indestructible force of nature, so make it so.
I have great faith in Gareth Edwards, but I do have concerns that they will try to make Godzilla more "realistic" than mythological. I mean, how real can Godzilla be? I hope they stay true to the iconic characteristics which make Godzilla who he is, and not try to make him overly believable for an audience that doesn't appreciate it or understand it.
That's my 2 cents.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 12:54 PM1. Blue Atomic Breath & Red Atomic Breath from Godzilla final wars.
2. Iconic Roar.
3. Needs to be unstoppable to man made weapons.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 1:43 PM1. Absolutely nothing like the 98 abortion
2. Absolutely as close to G 2000 (breath, movements, looks, roar, indestructible etc)
3. Absolutely nothing like the 98 abortion... Godzilla wrecks city's not lay eggs in em!

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 3:07 PMHe has all three in the film, I can confirm it.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 6:36 PMI agree with what most are saying but I think there should be also a 4th, the music should be based on the work of Akira Ifukube. This has been lacking in the Godzilla movies for a while now.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 7:42 PM1. The iconic roar from the original and its direct sequel 1985 film. Not those crappy high pitched roars.
2. His indestructible trait along with the healing powers
3. The atomic breath either blue or red but have the sound and visual effects that were in the 2000 film. Those to me looked and sounded the best.

ronin3338
MemberMothra LarvaeAug-03-2013 10:21 PM1) He must be an unstoppable force of nature. Conventional weaponry does not harm him, super G-Stopper weaponry can only hurt him for a time.
2) Atomic/Radioactive Breath. The blue kind.
3) A kaiju opponent. The only movie that didn't have one was the first, and that was a cautionary tale that stands separate from the rest. I want Godzilla to battle it out with other creatures or mecha.
I was tempted to put in his roar, which I agree is iconic, but if they update it while staying true to the sound (that angry yet pained roar), I will be OK with that.
I also was tempted to add something about the soundtrack... I know they can never recapture the spirit of Akira Ifukube's scores, but perhaps if they used a Japanese composer, and not some pop culture phenom, then at least the spirit of it would be right.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-04-2013 3:17 AMThere's a lot of stuff people can say that's the "Top 3 Most Important," but here's how I see fit.
1. Godzilla's Mythology: Godzilla's story, the reason he was created, the reason he attacks man in the first place. If this is ignored, you're pretty much just making a giant lizard and not so much Godzilla. Forgetting Mythology is like forgetting why are we here in the first place? We were told of stories, stories that were shaped by mythology. So if you don't put in Godzilla's Mythology, you're basically not getting Godzilla at all.
2. Godzilla's Anatomy: I already see how people want his breath, his roar, even healing powers. And for most I agree, but I'm not entirely "nitpicky," on what I would prefer to have, I can't just say "I wanna see Godzilla's Atomic Breath but not his armor like skin." I'd be asking for one thing and in this case, no one wants a partial Godzilla. So basically I speak for just about every Godzilla fan that everything in his anatomy must have little change or no change at all. This goes for looks, vocals, powers, abilities, and strength.
3: Godzilla's Emotions: Technically, this probably would go for the first one I mentioned, his Mythology. But on the other hand, Godzilla was one angry lizard for a big majority of his films. In both the original film and in GMK: GMAOA, Godzilla was defined as an angry spirit awaken by man's recklessness. However in other movies, Godzilla seemed to show a sign of forgiveness (well not in the 90's "Vs. King Ghidorah"). In at the end of the Millennium film, Godzilla, despite his wrath in most of the film, he seems to bare some humans, even shows curiosity in the beginning of the film before mistaking flashes of light as a sign of attack. In the Showa era, Godzilla leaps from terror to hero after realizing that humans live on the same Earth as he does. In Final Wars, Godzilla listens to his son to no longer fight against man after the alien invasion. Though for the 2014 film, I expect him to be very angry, but compared to GMK don't make him look soulless.
That's my Top 3 Characteristics.

MemberBaragonAug-04-2013 12:52 PM1. Atomic breath, ray, beam, whatever. One of the main things that distinguishes him, and makes him unique.
2. He should be instantly recognizable as Godzilla. Should be no doubt what monster this is.
3. His roar ('54 is my fave), so close to that.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-09-2013 12:58 PMIm pretty sure godzilla will have all of his trademark stuff the ONE and only important thing that i know he probably wont have is personality thats the one thing i would want to see a fully expessive face that includes eyes and sneering teeth,GODZILLA just didnt stomp in blankly and start f***ing stuff up, whenever he was faced with a strong enemy he had a look of surprise/anger on his face and when going against the military a look of disgust GODZILLA was very expressive espacialy in the 80's and 90's so thats what i want to see.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-16-2013 12:08 AMMan this is rough buuuuuut:
1. I kinda want to see a nice effect on his back plates so they should be ig enough and sharp enough to frack a monster up should they grab him from behind. Plus a nice blue and White effect with he uses the atomic breath.
2. Atomic breath is a must. Be nice to see him have two levels..a red for the less threatening things like planes..and white a blue to put down hard to kill beast .
Lastly the roar..it should really be able to do some damage

1. Blue atomic breathe with his spines lighting up as he charges them.
2. Indestructibility/regenative properties.
3. His classic roars from the fist film.
4. He must be very menacing.
5. He has to be an anti-hero. He can't just be straight up evil.
