MemberMothra LarvaeJan-07-2014 10:40 PMAlright everyone, this is my first discussion here on the Godzilla 2014 forums, and I just came up with a pretty cool idea.
What if we were to discuss every Godzilla movie ever made starting with Gojira (1954) all the way to Godzilla Final Wars? It would basically be us talking about what we liked about it, didn't like about it, what we would change, what we would rate it,etc.
This would kind of act as a sort of countdown up until Godzilla reappears in May, so every 4 or 5 days I would post the discussion for the next movie. It would also be nice to have something to come on and talk about almost every day until then, so what do you guys think? Is it a cool idea? I'm not sure if anything like this has been suggested before, but I thought it would be cool. So tell me what you think (IDK if you want to have a day to rant about that 1998 "Godzilla" movie) and if you like the idea I will start the first discussion as soon as I can!

AdminGodzillaJan-07-2014 11:07 PMNot a terrible idea. Would it all take place in this thread or would you make a new thread per movie? And I motion to no have one for the '98 movie. I like pretending it doesn't exist anyway.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-08-2014 12:35 AMGman2887 The problem with doing that is zilla from Godzilla 1998 is in final wars, not to mention it also was told in Gmk at the begginng. Zilla became a official monster in toho line.

AdminGodzillaJan-08-2014 12:53 AMJust because it became a monster in Toho's line-up after the fact doesn't make the movie any less palatable to being forgotten.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-08-2014 1:16 AMIgnored, but not Forgotten. I don't like that movie just as any true godzilla fan would, but that does mean I not going to watch it. I considered a guilty pleasure movie. It just A movie afterall since this new movie hold more promise than that film. Anyway I can get into some of this discussing, because Some Godzilla films where better than other. That doesn't also mean all of them can't be good, I just have favorite from all three series.

MemberBaragonJan-08-2014 1:31 AMWill there be different topics for highly editted American versions? Off the top of my head the only 1s I can think of are the original Gojira which became Godzilla King of the Monsters. Then there's the sequel which wasn't as highly editted but bad voice acting really changed the tone and character perceptions

Ignored, yes. Not forgotten? Debatable. Just like if pricking my finger hurts, I don't do it, if I don't like a movie, I don't watch it-- So I don't understand that concept. What I do know is that Toho's "Final Box" did not include the movie and most fans would rather skip it.
@Durp004
I think both Japanese and heavily edited Americanized variations should stay in one topic. There it can be discussed which people prefer and the differences can be more easily compared. There's enough duplicate topics floating around on this forum as is, I don't think we should encourage more.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-08-2014 11:32 AM#1- AWESOME idea!
#2- Yes, we absolutely need to talk about 1998. It is to this day the most talked about Godzilla EVER. Good or bad, we need to talk about it if you're making this thing happen. Plus, it isn't a bad film; it's just that the stubborn Godzilla fans are butthurt that it wasn't conservative. It was an awesome take that was never visioned before and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's got as many faults and laughs as any other Godzilla film.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-08-2014 11:46 AMThis sounds like a really cool idea!
When do we start?
I LOVE the first 2 movies, the most grittiest ones in my opinion.

I'm not sure where you're getting the numbers that the 98 movie is the most talked about movie of the series, but I don't agree with that in the least. Unless you can come back with some hard evidence about that.
And while the film is poor, I don't think claiming Godzilla fans wishing it was conservative is fair when compared to much of the jubilee surrounding the new movie and its liberties. Judging from the early leaked script of G2014, there will be things in the new film that will downright polarize Godzilla fans. But those elements are actually exciting and interesting new takes on the character, not unlike GMK actually. GINO was more interested in copying the better moments of Jurassic Park than doing anything truly innovative with Godzilla. And that's only part of its problem.

MemberBaragonJan-08-2014 10:46 PMPerhaps we can start the discussions on the movies before it and when we get to the 98 movie those who want to talk about it can, and those who don't can just wait till the next movie is brought up. There's no real point not talking about it. It is called Godzilla no matter how much many fans hate that so it is technically a Godzilla movie.

MemberMothra LarvaeJan-11-2014 10:36 AMHey guys sorry it took so long for me to come back. It seems I have enough positive comments to make this happen so I am going to post the first discussion on Gojira (1954) later today. Sadly, I havent seen all of the Japanese and American versions of some of the films, but I will to try talk about those differences. It will be a new thread per movie because some people might be talking about the former movie after I post the newer movie discussion and it would get kind of confusing.
I think I might do the 98 movie but we'll ee when we get there. Tune in for the discussion later today!
