MemberMothra LarvaeApr-14-2014 11:30 AMSo I've been very slow to convert my Godzilla collection from VHS to DVD but I'm pretty much all done except for a few films and some of the rare stuff (like Ultra Q and Zone Fighter) I bought a Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla/Destroyer double DVD a while back and was looking to get individual copies. However I can't seem to find any that are region 0 or 1, were they not released in these regions?

AdminGodzillaApr-14-2014 11:45 AMNo individual Region 1 DVD releases exist for Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla and Godzilla vs. Destroyah. The only [legal] Region 1 DVD version you'll find of these films is the double DVD you already have that was released from Sony/Tristar in the late 1990s. Same goes for Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992).

AdminGodzillaApr-14-2014 11:52 AMI also want to add, if you're willing to upgrade to Bluray, there WILL be individual discs of these movies sold within Double Disc sets:

But they will not be re-released on DVD individually. I also detail the differences between the DVDs and Blurays here. They're quite glaring. (Apologies for the offline pictures)

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-14-2014 12:07 PMI hadn't planned on buying Blueray, but after reading your article that seems to be the best option when they're released. Thanks for the info!

AdminGodzillaApr-14-2014 12:25 PMHappy to help. The more people that buy these, the more likely Godzilla 2000, GMK and Godzilla x MechaGodzilla will get the same treatment.

Yes I have it listed in that thread I posted above. The Gamera Legacy collection is DVD only and since I already own the Heisei Gamera Trilogy on Bluray it actually makes more sense for me to get the Bluray collections of the Showa series than the Legacy set. Thanks for the heads up though.

That's a great article. Thanks for the information. I will most likely spend the money to get the upcoming blu-rays though I find it humorous that so many versions of various Godzilla titles exist and that I already own.
Question: you mentioned in the article that Sony relinquished the right to several Showa titles. What are they and is there any chance that a company such as Classic Media will buy the rights and work their magic like they did on their earlier releases?

AdminGodzillaApr-15-2014 12:08 AM@Ray Burrberry
The Showa films that Sony owned awhile ago were:
Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster
Son of Godzilla
Godzilla vs. Hedorah
Godzilla vs. Gigan
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla
Classic Media has said they have no interest in acquiring the rights to any other Godzilla titles. However, a new company called Kraken Releasing has recently bought the rights to Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Godzilla vs. Gigan. They will be releasing them on DVD and Bluray this May. You can check out the details in this thread I've created here:
http://www.godzilla-movies.com/community/forums/topic/31981
Sci-Fi Japan writer, Keith Aiken, also mentioned on facebook that another company has acquired the rights to Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla. He was not at liberty to say who it was, when they would be released or on what format they would be on.

MemberBaragonApr-15-2014 1:56 AMIt's sad no new DVD versions are getting released of those 2 titles. I own the double feature for all the heisei and they are really very low quality. Don't even have the option of watching them subbed in original formats, only dubbed sad I can only watch the dubbed version of Vs Destroyah, my favorite Godzilla move, even if the dub isn't all that bad I wish I could see the original format

Thanks again for the info. I hope the new company does a great job with the blu-rays.
