Godzilla (2014) in #15.  Hell no.!!! It has some (some) flaws....every godzilla movies have but i think the majority of the people would agree that the 2014 version is the best till now.

So no real change. Godzilla 2014 is middle of the list. At least it's better than Ebirah and Godzilla's Revenge.

I think some younger fans will think its one of the best based primarily on the fact it's A) new and B) has Hollywood special effects. But I agree with you. My top is still roughly:

1. Godzilla ('54)

2. Monster Zero

3. Mothra vs. Godzilla

4. Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster

5. Terror of MechaGodzilla

with movies like Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster and GMK probably not far behind.  Not sure if the new movie quite cracks the top 10. There are just better made, and better paced, Godzilla films that handle their characters better. Godzilla (2014) is a good film, no doubt about it, but just because it lacks camp (which isn't entirely true) doesn't mean it was significantly better than those that were very campy. Part of what made the Godzilla series so magnificent is how it used campiness to its advantage and embraced it as its art form.

As an aside of light ribbing though, I don't know how Godzilla x Megaguirus broke into your top 10, much less anyone's top 20...

And if we add other Kaiju films, G2014 ranks below the Gamera trilogy. Actually, the new film had far more in common with the Gamera films than Godzilla. I'd even rank Gamera vs Barugan and War of the Gargantuas anove G14. BvG only had about 15 mins of Gamera, so it has that in common with G2014. Plus both had better human focus. Hell, add Mothra and Rodan to that list. I think most are simply blinded by the computer effects. It's expected though.

I'm not sure I'd rank Gamera vs. Barugon much further above most Toho films, much less Legendary's Godzilla. And I'm going to risk heresy by saying Rodan was never a great to begin with, though it has a strong legacy; but I agree with you about the Gamera Trilogy. It remains the finest example of modern day kaiju and toku filmmaking. But Kaneko also had nine movies spread across vastly different genres under his belt before he tackled giant monsters. Godzilla (2014) is Edwards' sophomore effort. Barring different directorial and cultural styles of filmmaking, it's to be expected.

@GMAN hahaha yea I've noticed that I seem to be on my own little island in liking Megaguirus, but that's ok I was in the same boat with Hedorah for years and it seems like opinion has shifted a bit on that movie lol

And it's funny you should say that about the younger fans cuz I was actually thinking that. I remember feeling the same way in 1998 being 14 years old with all the hype surrounding the film.

I would agree with you wolfguy about the gamera trilogy and Rodan/Mothra

Yeah, Gojira (1954), Godzilla (1984), Terror of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla vs. Mothra (1964), and Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster would probably be my favorites, with Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Destroyah, GMK, and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) not far behind. I would place legendary's new movie in my top ten, but not the best. The 1954 movie still holds up as the best Godzilla movie ever made.

I've never found listing the whole series easy. It never sticks for me. I could give you my top 5, and then maybe a mish-mash of my next few favorites, and finally the bottom 5. After that everything's fairly interchangable both depending on my mood and because a lot of the films in the series are different enough that they become hard to compare.
