Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-12-2014 5:04 AMI don't know? I would think they would but they are going to let Legendary have its run with the film(s) first. My opinion would be suitmation just because it is their "Traditional" way and the Americans "Traditional" way is cgi. It is always nice to see how different each suit is and how creative it is and is something that can be lost in cgi. Now don't get me wrong I loved the new movie and the cgi but I use the word CAN loosely in my last sentence.

TitanosaurusMember926 XPJun-12-2014 5:27 AMI would love to see Toho make more Godzilla movies. They are Godzilla's parent(s), they know what is best, sometimes *cough cough Godzilla's Revenge cough cough*. Toho needs to make more Godzilla movies.

BaragonMember199 XPJun-12-2014 5:34 AMThat’s an interesting question. Part of me thinks, well at this point, there’s no going back; the genie’s out of the bottle, so to speak. Another part of me is thinking that ToHo has to be looking at us, and how we’ve spent almost $300 mil between two stabs at their character, and for various and different reasons, haven’t gotten it quite right either time! How many traditional movies do you think they could make with almost $300 million? I think on the average, they were spending maybe between $10-15 mil per movie?
I look at both versions the U.S. has done, and see missed opportunities both times, again, for different reasons.
I grew up with Godzilla (he’s only 8 years older than me!), so I was used to seeing the man in the suit approach for all those years. I loved them and still do, but I’ve also felt at some point it was time to move on and change with the times. Audiences are more sophisticated and demand more from their entertainment. The graphics and effects that children have in their video games and computers blow away things that were done for many films 20 years ago!
But the bottom line is, I don’t care how much money you throw at a Godzilla movie, if it’s not done right. That being the case, just give me the traditional man in a suit movie. They can make a lot more of them (one every year or so), and I know there will be more right than wrong with them. Who knows when the next Legendary Godzilla movie will come out.

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-12-2014 7:51 AMToho will probably always make some Godzilla movies. They have to change some things if they want it to be succesful. Japan is the home of the most amazing and interesting monsters, more of those would make any Godzilla truly worthwhile and interesting.

GiganModerator3811 XPJun-12-2014 8:21 AMTeam Godzillakoldwark. im almost certain a new legendary godzilla is coming out in 2016 or early 2017.

BaragonMember199 XPJun-12-2014 9:35 AM@GorillaGodzilla77897 – Bear in mind Legendary has stated that Gareth Edwards will be directing the next two Godzilla sequels, but he’s also doing a standalone Star Wars movie that’s coming out in 2016. You’ve got pre-production, production, and post-production/editing. I don’t see him being able to juggle both movies, do you? Unless they’re getting another director for Godzilla, I can’t realistically see the next one coming out until 2018.

Mothra LarvaeMember0 XPJun-12-2014 9:58 AM@KoldwarKid62 - I think it's already been stated that Edwards won't touch Godzilla again until after the Star Wars film is done. So I'd say 2018-2019, as painfully far away that is. But you're right, the Toho Godzilla movies had a really small budget compared to what they have in Hollywood. 28 movies in 50 years, that's one movie ever 1-2 years, not including the breaks between eras. The reason the American films haven't gotten it quite right yet, however, is that Ameria hasn't had the time to make it right. Toho had 50 years with Godzilla, trying to make it better every movie. America has only had two movies, and the second American Godzilla is definitly a step up from the 1998 one.

BaragonMember199 XPJun-12-2014 11:09 AM@NerdyBandGeeks - It has nothing to do with how long we’ve been making them. True, we haven’t been making Godzilla movies as long as ToHo, but there is a history/legacy to go by. With the ’98 version, Devlin & Emmerich just chose to ignore that legacy and come up with what they thought the Godzilla for the new millennium should be, to put their stamp on the character. As for this new version, on the whole, the Godzilla character was fine. He looked and acted like Godzilla for the most part.
The main points of contention amongst people who weren’t crazy about it or didn’t love it (myself included), were: 1) The lack of depth with the human characters. Most were pretty boring/one dimensional, 2) The tone of the movie and the Godzilla character versus what the trailers/marketing were presenting, and 3) The sparse amount of the title character in his own movie. These were all choices that the filmmakers/writers made. They have little to nothing to do with how long we’ve been in the “Godzilla game.”

BaragonMember199 XPJun-12-2014 1:44 PM@GorillaGodzilla77897 - Where did I say I didn't care for the movie? I said for "people who weren’t crazy about it or didn’t love it", to which I included myself. I've stated several times in other posts that I liked, but didn't love it, just to set the record straight. If you peruse these posts you'll see other G-Fans who were also not enamored with the movie. Not everyone loved it. I expected to, but I felt let down, to be honest. That doesn't mean that everyone who comes to/posts to this site is going to be a Godzilla 2014 rump-swab. There were a lot of things they got right with the movie, but at the end of the day, it was disappointing to me, and I think, a missed opportunity. This is a site where people can, should be able to express their views without being attacked, comprendi? As far as multi-tasking on two movies (yes, I know what multi-tasking is; I do it all the time), that's incredibly difficult to do (on two movies), and do well. I think one of those movies would invariably get short-changed. Anyway, I've gotten wildly off-topic here, so my apologies. I'm done posting on this topic. See you around.
